standart settings of a layer: 1 volume, 2 tone, 5-way switch
profile of c in fender, bird's-eye maple (very nice!)
nothing to say, it's good!

UTILIZATION

It's a Start, so very good ergonomics!
c handle, though

very very light!

very good clear sound and crunch, reflects the subtleties of play! perfect for blues.
mics have a grain ... very vintage pickups are custom shop robert cray (up to staggered studs), but I think it's mostly marketing: In my opinion, they are almost identical to the Texas Special!

for heavy rock sounds / saturated, go your way! that's my main criticism. it's not a guitar to rock!
but his style is very very good!

SOUNDS

Well no, not quite rightly!
I play on an old Vox AC 30 that I love!
I play more rock and rock .. with a heavy sound, it's not!
I think we should change the pickups but it's a shame to tamper with such a guitar in my humble opinion!
I also have a Stratocaster + deluxe 95 tbx with much more usable in a large, but its much more modern and cool (thank you TBX) ... largest output level, the more fat and heavy! by against, into pure clear sound, the most deluxe and snapping is much less bright: blame the violin and microphones!
The Robert Cray is very crystalline crunch very hot, very fine but much less versatile than the deluxe + to play in a band with various styles!
For cons, I must admit that each position micro switch is typed and sounds differently ... all positions are used and each character is very nice!
instrument making the robert cray is very resonant, very clear difference in the deluxe + free plug.
when one branch is the same. When typing and gets loud, it screams and it reacts with many of its amplitude, and many acute. we move from light to crunch without touching anything, just with fingers. reflects the subtleties what! on a good class A amp lamp, it sounds really, but you have to play hard to use compression of the amp!
Briefly, in its way, it is very very good!

OVERALL OPINION

3 months!
I tried (used) standart japan, usa standart, standart texas usa with special, more deluxe, 2 custom shop relic strats I do not know what (4000euros anyway!) Start ... in style if not prs, gibson 59 reissue LP and others ...

the main difference with the standart usa is the quality of the wood, more resonant, very light .., and also very beautiful!
is not to put effects and distos, just the pure sound of the guitar and good amp behind ... no frills, a guitar purist
for those seeking this type of sound (the old strat finally!) is the top.
I think the Robert Cray Start was created to mimic the fetish model, a layer 66, if I'm not mistaken ...
I believe a model that would better me, it's the Clapton Start. with active electronics, it must allow more incursions into the rock (from what I see and hear on my dvd!)
I would do this choice? .. hard to say very attractive guitar but not really what I need ... it's not an all-purpose tool, a more specialized in a style diva.
