The plain Jane of guitars IMHO...

    Ibanez Gio GRG170DXPublished on 07/17/16 at 05:57
I broke up with my ex-girlfriend of 12 years about 3 years ago, she refused to allow me to have a guitar in the house. A couple of months ago after I had to close down my factory for economic reasons, I bought this guitar and a Marshall MG15CFR.

The type of music I would play on the guitar would be some metal, hard rock and obviously clean sounds for pop music or plain rhythm guitar.

My older brother gave me an Ibanez Iceman model a long time ago, so I have an affinity for Ibanez models. The type of music I would play on the guitar would be some metal, hard rock and obviously clean sounds for pop music or plain rhythm guitar.

My older brother gave me an Ibanez Iceman model a long time ago, so I have an affinity for Ibanez models. I liked the feel, the weight of the guitar, the narrow neck, etc. The initial problems I was having on the guitar was if I was holding a C-chord (open), my ring finger might slightly touch the D string with my middle finger on the E position after getting over that learning curve (and yes I occasionally still have the problem of fingers muting string on open chords).

The clean sound I feel has no personality, the neck position front pickups kind of distorts if too loud, and the neck & middle pickup configuration will be slightly brighter but still kind of dull. The middle position is brightly dull if that makes sense, whereas the middle/bridge p/u configuration is the best of the bunch, and using the bridge pickup in clean mode also can distort a little but not as much as the neck p/u.

As for the crunch/distortion, I find the bridge to be the best or perhaps I've been indoctrinated into believing that's the best for distortion as I was growing up but I digress. I noticed the louder I have the amp the better the crunch is, especially the bridge pickup so I'm assuming it translates to other amps, also considering upgrading pickups to DiMarzios or Seymour Duncans...

Overall having not played the guitar for over 10 years and getting back into it, I'm happy with the purchase and highly recommend for beginners.

Bridge Ibanez Fat 10, can be up and the lower or only the lower depending on the setting, but beware désacordage although it is still very enjoyable.
24 frets, which I find very convenient for the shred.
A very responsive tone knob, great for refining the sound, volume, and traditional 5-way switch.

    UTILIZATION

The handle is nice and fast for a guitar this price, the solos go alone and rhythm are holding up well. The ergonomics are quite good with easy access and a sharp cut in the cash for the arm. It is still pretty heavy for a Super-Strat I think, but this is not a fatal flaw. Easily obtained good clean sound as well that in distortion, the crunch of deep distos.

    SOUNDS

This guitar should pretty well to my style of music (metal, thrash, melodic) thanks to a microphone level output that does not move my face MetalZone Boss. But the key word of this guitar is the versatility it is suitable metal, rock, hard rock, pop rock, a little funk that this is not his strong point, and I m can not express the blues jazz because I don 't play it. I love the grain of the micro bridge with heavy distos and that of micro center with overdrive. I find the sounds of the intermediate position + neck pickup micro center in its clean just great and very beautiful. I like the sound of the less pickup in its clean.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a year and I must say that that is a superb value for money. This guitar is perfect for beginners and provides an easy and enjoyable approach of shred. She is now starting to not suit me too because of my experience and increasing e would look today a true type guitar metal and / or shred but tuojours in Ibanez. Very good and very versatile guitar but ls for beginners anyway.

-Legere, balance is jous with sitting to standing without problem, just the horns are a bit more bother (pointed) to scratch contrerement type "strata", the finishes are beautiful painting satisfesantes black mirror effect (just a few places where painting is not happening, as in micro or in the cavity of the selector position, but it does not see this!)

-The sound is quite versatile! thanks HSH configuration, but in the style rock! pop rock, metal, for the reagge ca be harder already! it's still a pretty versatile guitar despite its orientation metal! bridge pickup is good for distortion! saturation is fairly screaming, when you put the switch down in the bridge position with the microphone saturation ... it's pretty violent! perfect for mtaleux! if not just go up the selector position! Player Characters and are not without problem other style of music! a little blues, white stripper, ect ...

    SOUNDS

The sound suits me well! the distortion are welcome! as its clean! lectronqiue flexible multipurpose scraper! orientation with a slight metal (already just in the look!)
roland on cube30! with all the effects and modlisation not bad! only regret is that Micro saturates too quickly that the poussse a little! but hey should not ask too much for the price! and the sound is frankly not the best among other brands in between class!

    OVERALL OPINION

I have been using 2semaines! very good (personal opinion), the saturated its EXCELLENT sound even if it lacks a bit of gravity! its clean and does not and is equilibrated grsille nice play! versatile in contrerement Squier that I find really very slight distortion and saturation level? and finishes better than the same range of Cort!
    good value qualitprix

pensse I stay in this type of guitar! my next would be an Ibanez RG Japanese Whale or RG (the Narwhal)!

    UTILIZATION

I found the handle super class to see the price! It glides really well, no problem with Access in acute BMOL would only fret too big to my taste. I think the guitar was already in its typ mtal a ct, and the points can be quite uncomfortable, but the ergonomics are good trs. The guitar may be a bit heavy it is, but really nothing to panic, you can play standing or sitting with no problem.

    SOUNDS

Axemtal guitar, but watch everything is relative, nothing to do with a Flying V! The microphones are not based trs good quality but the guitar is very versatile. I play right on Marshall MG30DFX and can print some great grsillements center position, but I find the overdrive sound good. The guitar is not limited to the big sounds of the positions 1 and 2, it can also have a little distortion for a good blues in position 5. In clean channel on the other hand must stay on the 5-position if you want sound, but you can get it!

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for over a year, and this guitar is an excellent quality-price. Its default would be his easel and microphones, but for that price I find the handle really fast and enjoyable! It's a guitar advise beginners who want to get a real sound for cheap. Trs good guitar for that price, I think if I had to stay beginners I buy it back, otherwise it is better to change if you want a real heavy guitar ...

    UTILIZATION

A handle at the beginning and quite pleasant surprises Given the price of this machine.
However, for players with the past we quickly realized that this race is a bit overstated by critiques.je mexplique: it is so fast that it pa strings are very high compared to the frets that are moreover a little too thick for my taste the gene for the solos, the fingers have a little trouble making the transition from a rope and slid on the manche.Il remains pleasant during the acute rhythmic and quite accesible.
The tools, however, remains quite good with good ergonomics and ease of use (only 2potards). So I put 6 / 10 because my marlgres exigency it still finds some strengths.

    SOUNDS

The is another story because it has 2hambeckers and a microphone so simple selector 5position (classical). The sound that comes out of the amp is a bit messy with the disto gressille and most of the time. its clean you do not use the handle remains hambecker drinking and one for playing with the other position disto.les sizzles and are too cafouillage.je plays mostly blues and rock vieu good years and 60.70 The resulting sound is not really satisfactory (more focused metal guitar)! it is true that, given the price the quality is still good we do not t pa atendre perfection was € 250!
    So that's why I 6 / 10

    OVERALL OPINION

I have this Ibanez for a year, I was seduced first by the price of the machine but also by its handle compared to what is found in the same gamme.le sound is still acceptable due to the price. After a year I m'ennuis on this guitar and I will change against a tradition limmited S2002 is in a much higher price range.
GRG170DX the ibanez is a guitar that I strongly conceille a beginner who pa gro budget! this guitar is the best value on the market (for my taste). For the guitarists did not experience a big budget like me last year I conceille rather to break the piggy bank and investire immediately, I would do so pa this choice because I play depui 10 years but if I was beginner I would not hesitate!
So if you want a guitar meter: What are you waiting for? Jump on the case. (I would then put 7 / 10 in general because it is an excellent learning guitar)

I love the clean use his "country" and I let the distortion bridge pickup, the only drawback is that the microphones quickly saturate asser!

Access in acute is correct, neither more nor less.
A weight honorable, a fairly standard form and a head ibanez, so must love.

    SOUNDS

I play mostly classic metal (heavy / thrash / speed) so perspective distortion, the sound is going to correct for this award, I now have one with an amp and pedals right, holds up the guitar, we feel small weaknesses but that's all fine.
As against the clean sound is pretty awful I think, but There's a good way to pass a rgler for a little better.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for more than two years, I like the handle pretty cool, a guitar powerful enough (2 doubles), but it must be said that the finish (and this is normal price) is not great, especially for electronics.
However it remains a good guitar for this report qualitprix and I think now, if I had to take a guitar this price (c'tait my Premire) can be plutt I would see the c t to compare with Epiphone, but I would be indcis to choose between the two.
    A good guitar to start.

    UTILIZATION

The neck is thin, not too wide, which finally typical Ibanez. This can also be a lightweight adaptation problem, especially when changing the Ibanez for a type D handle most classical.

Access in acute is impeccable ', nothing wrong, a skyscraper of shredders carefree as enjoyable rhythm in (no need to place the hands of loggers bars).

The weight is reasonable, the shape is oriented metal, no doubt. The chamfer the rear adds comfort. Concerns: the bridge. I mean for a nag, the friction of the strings on the bridge, just the location where they leave the body (and thus suffer a high voltage accentuates their curves) is strong enough, may breaks relatively frquent (not the high E string). M'enfin the price of the set of strings, it's frankly not rbarbatif, and then gently play poses no problem.

Other dtail: the strings are high from the factory, but a tower cl RULES the problem and not a frieze of the masses.

The knobs are not gniaux, it's all or nothing, is not one of his pet, or all of a sudden donf '...

Finally, the madmen of vibrato, prvoyez your tuner (or you could buy a MODEL with Floyd Rose). For those who like me did not square, the place of agreement is satisfactory trs.

    SOUNDS

I play on a Digitech GNX-1, which overlooks a Peavey Studio Pro 112. Byzantium m'enfin I am not poor me.

The sound is metal, it is an obviousness, the less metal oriented, yet with good rglages trs can have good surprises.

From the outset, in distortion, doubles are convincing: the bridge pickup is aggressive, the notes dtachent well, the neck is fat, but I confess, I use little. In his clear, the bridge pickup is bright trs, even too, and can, when you play a height not marshall, s'avrer loud in the treble. The neck pickup is round, not m'enfin terrible on balance there is not much.

But the surprise comes from the micro simple, in the middle. Its distortion, it is prcis, and susceptible to attack, not bad for a simple, not too much to hum and other noise. Clearly, this is the big slap, a simple sound, neither too bright nor too round, which is close (relatively guards) of a sound. It is sometimes a little skinny, but in any case to play rhythmic Arian, unhurriedly, a sacrment sounds good, I was personally sci.

The positions intermdiaires ... Bridge / simple = useless. Channel / single = not bad for a lightweight crunch, trs susceptible to attack (which made its trump card crunch). It allows you to regain some of roundness, the relative attnuer "scheresse" the simple while maintaining its precision.

I use to play rock / metal, mainly humbucker bridge distortion in simple and clear, with a little chorus is really stunning.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use this guitar for ending for one year.

I like the flat handle, which not tire the hand of rhythm guitarist mostly I am.

I do not like vibrato. As' I make AIM the same type with an easel MODEL Tune-o-Matic, m'enfin good ... Otherwise, the neck pickup I got no useful trs, without much personality too fat for the metal-to-large-mchant too to play the blues.

The report is good quality for money, especially since this guitar is easily used, it is a case that beginners and you can not pay or RG Prestige ESP 1000 euros or more , go for it.

With exprience, I would do without this choice hsiter, as I am satisfied. But now j'conomise for LTD EC-400 ...

    Everything is already said ...

    UTILIZATION

Channel fast, flat back, very flat table.
Easy access to acute, with nothing exeptional either (compared to an SG ...)
Ibanez classic shape home, comfortable and light, I am not disappointed.
Its level, the pots are not very accurate. it would have deserved a more knob volume (1 for neck pickup and bridge, 1 for the station).

    The vibrato fat10 is a pain ...
As I set very hard and never use!
Set to float, the bends are harder to obtenire must push them to death, we see the bridge rise up!

Focused HardRock / Metal, both in clean only disto.
    I use a Zoom G2.1u, a Behringer GM108 or headphones.
Level sounds, the pickups are distinguished very well. The neck pickup is very serious, very Polivalente the central and the bridge very acute.
I would say that for clean sounds, a central mix with the other two the better.
By distortion, two types of settings:
Rhythm-well bourrines: Neck pickup (+ Central to side sound)
-Solo: Bridge pickup alone, it helps out the artificial harmonics effortlessly;)

in the whole, the sound is very neutral, I like the fact, and the models are not denatured and settings with sound effects very Simplified.

sound is obtained crystalline type stratum, and in distos, sounds bold: versatile.

Compare that with a replica Jackson (2 pickups single, double) and an Epiphone SG

    OVERALL OPINION

Compare that with a replica Jackson (2 pickups single, double) and an Epiphone SG.

The neck is fast, simple to play, easy to be sure to stroll over.
After a Les Paul, a replica of Jackson and SG is the most versatile guitar I had.
... Value is not difficult to do better, knowing that the Ibanez!
This guitar is a gift, I will not buy personal, but now that I possess, I advise all beginners

    Sounds obtained at:
The neck pickup provides a warm and round sound clean but drool and distortion sounds in grad (anything with a little distortion is acceptable.)
The Micro simple sounds in both clean distortion with crystal clear sound and clear.
The bridge pickup possde sound sharp and distortion sounds trs well (be it a small distortion, the distortion of a large AC / DC or a distortion typ carrment mtal)
The position intermdiaire Micro Channel / Micro Central is plutt well for a small crunch.
Bridge Pickup Position intermidaire / Micro Central is plutt well for a small blues.
For lack of microphones against the personality ...

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 months, many j'apprcie the handle end.
But the lack of microphones personality and if you change the tuning to another (eg moving from a standard tuning tuning one whole step down) it is almost dsaccordera IMMEDIATE on the other hand if you keep still same tuning is a well plutt grant.
I tried two other guitars before buying.
The quality price ratio is normal for guitars in this price range.
With exprience can be in this price range I would take a washburn but if I could I would do this choice.

In terms of its equipment, said it all t, for a guitar of this price, it's not bad. Parcontre tuning is not the slightest gust of vibrato, so Avoid ^ ^ '

Well, I bought a year ago, it has not Reue big blows, but it falls into ruin compltement .. both potentiomtres to bar a little and they are becoming harder to turn. The five positions slecteur also becomes increasingly hard to use.

    I play on a Behringer V-Ampire.

    - The Clean:
Absolutely no personality gives her a dsagrable not, but totally neutral. ^ ^ 6 / 10 for the clean

    -His distorted:
For large distortions, even when a password, even if the lack of precision, power and personality. I have since bought an ESP M-II (SH-4 bridge to the distortion), and I must admit that the Difference is of course great, but the GRG, for its price, is very dfend s good.
    So I would put 8 / 10 in distortion

So the average of the two: 7 / 10

Bon bah here I've used about 10 months, I do not use more but I intend to keep it as j'garde good memories with it ^ ^. She aid in my good beginners guitar. This is a guitar that I highly recommend all beginners who wish to evolve a style "mtal". The report qualitprix is indeed excellent.
