I broke up with my ex-girlfriend of 12 years about 3 years ago, she refused to allow me to have a guitar in the house. A couple of months ago after I had to close down my factory for economic reasons, I bought this guitar and a Marshall MG15CFR.

The type of music I would play on the guitar would be some metal, hard rock and obviously clean sounds for pop music or plain rhythm guitar.

My older brother gave me an Ibanez Iceman model a long time ago, so I have an affinity for Ibanez models. I liked the feel, the weight of the guitar, the narrow neck, etc. The initial problems I was having on the guitar was if I was holding a C-chord (open), my ring finger might slightly touch the D string with my middle finger on the E position after getting over that learning curve (and yes I occasionally still have the problem of fingers muting string on open chords).

The clean sound I feel has no personality, the neck position front pickups kind of distorts if too loud, and the neck & middle pickup configuration will be slightly brighter but still kind of dull. The middle position is brightly dull if that makes sense, whereas the middle/bridge p/u configuration is the best of the bunch, and using the bridge pickup in clean mode also can distort a little but not as much as the neck p/u.

As for the crunch/distortion, I find the bridge to be the best or perhaps I've been indoctrinated into believing that's the best for distortion as I was growing up but I digress. I noticed the louder I have the amp the better the crunch is, especially the bridge pickup so I'm assuming it translates to other amps, also considering upgrading pickups to DiMarzios or Seymour Duncans...

Overall having not played the guitar for over 10 years and getting back into it, I'm happy with the purchase and highly recommend for beginners.

The Ibanez GIO GRG170DX maple neck has a fine and pleasant, perfect for beginners Shred.
Basswood body full HSH configuration (humbucker single humbucker):
-Ibanez humbucker neck pickup PSND1, I don 'serves little but it has high output and a very nice clean sound in middle position with the bridge pickup;
Micro-NSDP Ibanez single coil center, perfect for clean sounds but do not s waiting to foil a pickup of strata, although it is a good compromise;
-Bridge pickup Ibanez PSND2, built for distortion, high output, tolerates the overdrive as well as big distos metal.
Bridge Ibanez Fat 10, can be up and the lower or only the lower depending on the setting, but beware désacordage although it is still very enjoyable.
24 frets, which I find very convenient for the shred.
A very responsive tone knob, great for refining the sound, volume, and traditional 5-way switch.

UTILIZATION

The handle is nice and fast for a guitar this price, the solos go alone and rhythm are holding up well. The ergonomics are quite good with easy access and a sharp cut in the cash for the arm. It is still pretty heavy for a Super-Strat I think, but this is not a fatal flaw. Easily obtained good clean sound as well that in distortion, the crunch of deep distos.

SOUNDS

This guitar should pretty well to my style of music (metal, thrash, melodic) thanks to a microphone level output that does not move my face MetalZone Boss. But the key word of this guitar is the versatility it is suitable metal, rock, hard rock, pop rock, a little funk that this is not his strong point, and I m can not express the blues jazz because I don 't play it. I love the grain of the micro bridge with heavy distos and that of micro center with overdrive. I find the sounds of the intermediate position + neck pickup micro center in its clean just great and very beautiful. I like the sound of the less pickup in its clean.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a year and I must say that that is a superb value for money. This guitar is perfect for beginners and provides an easy and enjoyable approach of shred. She is now starting to not suit me too because of my experience and increasing e would look today a true type guitar metal and / or shred but tuojours in Ibanez. Very good and very versatile guitar but ls for beginners anyway.

I have been using 2semaines! very good (personal opinion), the saturated its EXCELLENT sound even if it lacks a bit of gravity! its clean and does not and is equilibrated grsille nice play! versatile in contrerement Squier that I find really very slight distortion and saturation level? and finishes better than the same range of Cort!

UTILIZATION

I found the handle super class to see the price! It glides really well, no problem with Access in acute BMOL would only fret too big to my taste. I think the guitar was already in its typ mtal a ct, and the points can be quite uncomfortable, but the ergonomics are good trs. The guitar may be a bit heavy it is, but really nothing to panic, you can play standing or sitting with no problem.

SOUNDS

I have this Ibanez for a year, I was seduced first by the price of the machine but also by its handle compared to what is found in the same gamme.le sound is still acceptable due to the price. After a year I m'ennuis on this guitar and I will change against a tradition limmited S2002 is in a much higher price range.
GRG170DX the ibanez is a guitar that I strongly conceille a beginner who pa gro budget! this guitar is the best value on the market (for my taste). For the guitarists did not experience a big budget like me last year I conceille rather to break the piggy bank and investire immediately, I would do so pa this choice because I play depui 10 years but if I was beginner I would not hesitate!

The neck pickup provides a warm and round sound clean but drool and distortion sounds in grad (anything with a little distortion is acceptable.)
The Micro simple sounds in both clean distortion with crystal clear sound and clear.
The bridge pickup possde sound sharp and distortion sounds trs well (be it a small distortion, the distortion of a large AC / DC or a distortion typ carrment mtal)
The position intermdiaire Micro Channel / Micro Central is plutt well for a small crunch.
Bridge Pickup Position intermidaire / Micro Central is plutt well for a small blues.
For lack of microphones against the personality ...

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 months, many j'apprcie the handle end.
But the lack of microphones personality and if you change the tuning to another (eg moving from a standard tuning tuning one whole step down) it is almost dsaccordera IMMEDIATE on the other hand if you keep still same tuning is a well plutt grant.
I tried two other guitars before buying.
The quality price ratio is normal for guitars in this price range.
With exprience can be in this price range I would take a washburn but if I could I would do this choice.
