Edge Pro J-Custom
Published on 08/08/11 at 19:54Around this time, the Edge and Lo Pro were starting to be phased out due to patent issues with Floyd Rose themselves. To help cut down on the amount of money Ibanez had to pay, they created the Edge Pro tremolo. This is one of the J-Custom models that contains that new Edge Pro tremolo. The guitar features a mahogany body with a figured maple top, a maple neck with an ebony fretboard, a tree of life vine inlay, 24 jumbo frets, Edge Pro tremolo, HSH configuration, one volume, one tone and a five way switch.

UTILIZATION
The fret ends on these guitars are simply astonishing. You won't find many guitars out there that have fret ends like this. They feel like you're being massaged while playing a guitar or something. They're really that ridiculous. The amount of time and effort that goes into creating these guitars is definitely reflected on their price, but it's worth every penny. The inlay work was super sick and very clean. This guitar has the (at the time) new Edge Pro bridge. The Edge Pro is a bit stiffer in terms of feel compared to the Edge and Lo Pro, but it's still a solid tremolo. However, there are no more locking studs. If you get one of these, I recommend replacing the studs with some higher quality locking studs for extra tuning stability.
SOUNDS
The famous DiMarzio Tone Zone / Blue Velvet / Air Norton shows itself once again in this model. The Tone Zone has a lot of mids, and it can get that kinda Schenker tone going on thanks to the onslaught of midrange. However, it's also super fat sounding. I find that this pickup tends to work best once it's lowered a bit and kept around standard tuning. The Blue Velvet in the middle is awesome for those blues tones. You can get some sick 2 and 4 split positions that would make even the most die hard strat fans jealous. In the neck, you have the Air Norton. This is my absolute favorite pickup ever made by DiMarzio. It's so fat and smooth. This is perfect for those legato riffs.
OVERALL OPINION
If you ever come across one of these, buy it immediately. They're some of the best guitars that Ibanez has ever released. Don't let the fact that it has the Edge Pro steer you away. The Edge Pro is an awesome bridge, and I've abused the hell out of them without any issues what so ever. The best part is that this has great pickups in it, so you never need to replace them.See less00 - jimbojetPublished on 09/18/09 at 00:18 (This content has been automatically translated from French)In which country was it made? (USA, Japan, Mexico, France ...)
Japan of course! japan for a custom is not normal?
How many frets, what kind of microphone and their configuration?
24 frets, Dimarzio pickups (real, not IBZ / DiMarzio) Hum / Single / Hum
I put 9 because I prefer the S config / S / H, more varieties of sounds clear ... is the double neck does not serve me too
What type of bridge (Floyd, Wilkinson ...)?
Floyd ... it is not 'rosy', he is black (ahah!) is a good non-Ibanez floyd
What are the settings (volume, tone, micro switch ...)?
Selector 1 volume, 1 tone
What kind of stick?
Bolt, extra fine

no problem
Ergonomics is it good (in terms of shape, weight ...)?
The guitar is very balanced, playable sitting too (as strat)
Do you get a good sound easy? ...
is a very good guitar sounds are so good of course: with a violin like that and such is of course excellent mic
SOUNDS
Are they suitable for your style of music?
yes! from blues to metal ... via ... uh ... nothing actually ... I only play blues and metal ... so it's perfect!
With what (s) amplifier (s) or effect (s) do you play?
mesa boogie triax; recto preamp, amp 20:20; effect pedals ...
What kind of sound you get and with what settings ("crystalline", "fat ",....)?
I would say it is rather for the amp section ...
the clean micro simple saturation in the double easel classic what ...
What are the sounds you prefer, you hate?
I hate anything of course;
I have a lot of guitar is my first real good guitar ... and therefore the last time I let go if I had to sell!
OVERALL OPINION
For how long have you been using it?
about 5 years
What thing do you like most/least about it?
beautiful pearl design on the handle ... type flowers (just like Vai but not the same)
a negative point anyway:
the neck humbucker does not serve me, in fact I would have preferred in hindsight an option S / S / H sounds nags have less need for shades that sounds clear, so simple 2 microphones are interesting ...
Did you try many other models before getting this one?
yes
What is your opinion about the value for the price?
is a very good guitar it is in the range pro, the price below ... and yet I can not find it excessive at all ...
Knowing what you know now, would you make the same choice? ...
yep!See less00
