    Budget Dinky

    Jackson DX10 DinkyPublished on 11/01/11 at 17:00
    The DX10 is part of the lower end model lineup that Jackson puts out for guitarists who are just starting out. It's not a guitar meant for those who are really serious about playing guitar, in my opinion. While some of these are pretty killer, a lot of them are very inconsistent and just not something I would consider high quality. The guitar features a basswood body, a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, dot inlays, two humbuckers, a licensed floyd, one volume, one tone and a three way switch.

    UTILIZATION

    The guitar had one major issue right off the bat, and it was the neck joint. The neck joint on this guitar was pretty loose, and it can cause a problem with both tuning stability and tone. It's a bit disappointing to see this. For those wondering how it can cause tuning issues, if the neck gets bumped real hard, the high e can fall off of it, and the change in tension due to the neck being off center can cause some issues. The fretwork on this was very mediocre, but it's about what you'd expect from these kinds of guitars. It's no different from any other lower end guitar when it comes to this aspect. The floyd on this is a licensed floyd that has pot metal or something for the baseplate, and it just doesn't sound or feel good.

    SOUNDS

    The guitar has stock humbuckers in it that I believe are meant to sound like Seymour Duncan pickups, but in reality, they don't sound anything like the actual ones they're trying to mimic. The bridge sounds like a very bland high output pickup, and it doesn't really sound that great. The neck is much the same in that it's a very boring sounding pickup. I wasn't able to get the tone I was looking for in these pickups, and if you're going to replace these, be sure that the actual body wood itself sounds good. A lot of these have dead sounding basswood bodies, and it's not exactly the best platform to start out with. That's not to say basswood is bad; it's just that these don't utilize a very high quality basswood from what I've experienced.

    OVERALL OPINION

    These guitars are meant for either the super budget minded individual or somebody who just wants a cheap Jackson for whatever reason, be it a beginner or someone who just wants something cheap to throw around. You're probably better off buying something like an Agile or a used LTD instead of getting one of these, in my opinion.

    Made in India;
    vibrato "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents", that is to say a cheap Floyd Rose ...
    24 frets, two humbuckers no-name (that sounds really cheap), wired to a switch 3 positions;
    at the pots: one volume, one tone (and therefore all in all 2 pots!)

    From my research, the body is alder, mahogany or low-end ...
    The handle should probably be in the same genre, with a rosewood fingerboard.

    Looking closely, one s'aperçois that manufacturing is relatively cheap, too: not very clean knockouts, electronic cable a bit hard ...

    I Gallery to find the model of the skyscraper, I called for it to experts on the forum jcfonline! The subject is available here:

    UTILIZATION

    250th paid for a guitar, the neck is nice enough, thin enough (I do not know if this is typical of Jackson?).
    Otherwise, the ergonomics are good, say that the quality / price is right:)
    The weight is correct, the guitar is relatively well balanced. Access to treble is fairly "easy" due to the form.

    Black Point still quite high: there are a lot of places where this frieze ... And that's quite stressful!

    SOUNDS

    I bought the skyscraper in the context of play Metal, Rock and others, it's overall style which it is intended.
    BUT, and this is a big but, the pickups sound very origins of cheap ... So in full, provided the amplifier is correct and / or distortion pedal takes the road, it passes. However its clear he does not expect wonders!
    Overall, in clean or distortion sound is very confusing, you always feel like a veil filthy.
    That said it's good enough to start.
    After a few years I changed the pickups for Gibson 496R and 500T (I got the new 2 for $ 100, it's still honest), roughly the same as Explorer / Flying V (being a fan of these scratch).
    Here, the sound changes completely EVERYTHING! The violin is entry level but at last we can have a very respectable one, either in clean or saturated. Exit the veil filthy, we take pleasure in playing.

    I started playing on a Hughes & Kettner Attax 50 (a 50W transistor entry / mid-range), and with new pickups it sounded well. I then purchased a Peavey ValveKing Royal 8 (which I changed the HP, cf. Dedicated topic on the forum), and then became the sound is terrible in the clear.

    Regarding the note I put 4 / 5 of 10 original, but it deserves a good 6 if we take the trouble to buy new microphones (be careful not to ruin either, it would be a shame to 'to have more expensive microphones as scratches).

    OVERALL OPINION

    Purchased in 2002, I have played for 2 years after the purchase, then between 2004 / 2007 I have not really touched the instrument (study, study!)
    As for the models tested, not much before that: in any case I did not really gold coins so I tried similar models (entry level Yamaha Pacifica, and some brands that I do even remember). What I decided to take it over another was mainly the "form factor" must be said that it has the "face Jackson" I like well.
    As for the negatives, as quoted above:
    - Frieze that in many places, no matter what you do;
    - The original pickups are really cheap.

    Now we have to stay on:
    - The quality / price ratio is honest;
    - The design is nice;
    - The handle is quite nice.

    With experience, I would turn instead to another model, counting the new pickups, the guitar came back to something like the 320th, for that price I'd try more of Ibanez or Yam. That said I do not regret my purchase!

    If you need to buy a "home" and used "I think it's not worth more than 50 / 70th! In any case I would not buy it more expensive ...
