« Schecter Omen 6 »

I bought this guitar at Guitar Center in Westminster, CO for about 300 bucks. I actually walked in intending to buy a Fender Stratocaster, but this guitar caught my eye, I played it for a while and just fell in love with it

The first thing to catch my eye was its very pretty walnut stain body. Not as beautiful as a PRS finish, which, in my opinion, are some of the best looking guitars made short of some custom shop. That said, it still a beautiful finish. I happen to prefer hardtails and I also like my guitars very simple. This guitar has a tone knob, a volume knob and a selector switch. I am not all that great a player, and the last thing I need in this stage of my playing is a bunch of junk to have to fiddle with. Looks aren't everything obviously, but this guitar played and souded great! I am very, very happy with it!

Honestly, there isn't really anything I dislike about it. My other guitar is an Epi Les Paul, and I like the crunch I get out of the two humbuckers, but had I wanted that same sound, I would have bought another epi or a gibson! Maybe sometime down the road there will be a pickup change, but thus far, I like everything about this guitar.

I have read on other review sites that certain Omens are poorly made, and certain Omens aren't. This may be true, but mine is built very well. My only bitch about quality is that on occasion my selector switch doesn't work properly. It "sticks" a little. Other than that (which is a fairly minor complaint), I have been very happy with the overall quality and construction!

Bottom line is simple. I would buy another Schecter without thinking twice about it. I recommend Schecter guitars, and the Omen in paricular to people I meet that happen to ask my opinion. The Omen is a superb value by any measure, to the extent that I would think it a fair deal at double its price (which would be about 600 bones, about the price I was going to pay for a Strat). I have a Epi (also very happy with that guitar) and I am going to buy a Strat someday, but my Schecter is my prize possession!
