Washburn MG-70 Mercury Series

Washburn MG70Published on 09/19/02 at 15:00
I bought this guitar second hand from a large store in Brisbane, Australia. It was a choice of a brand new ibanez, a second hand ibaneze or this wasburn. I think I made a good decision as well as saved some money because it was only $360 (Australian Dollars).

This thing is absolutely beautiful. I like the sunburst acrylic, 1 back humbucker, 2 single coil pickups, floyd rose tremelo, gold hardwear, 1 volume knob, wood (alder), neck (maple), fingerboard (rosewood), thin neck, fast fretboard, EXTREMELY LOW ACTION, EVERYTHING!!! Except...

THE TONE CONTROL!!! I'm pretty sure that someone can fix this but the tone knob should be a switch because it only seems to change the tone between 2 settings. I don't know why though. Maybe the wiring. Basically, I either get no tone or heaps of tone. Doesn't bother me much coz most of the stuff I play is high tone. Would benifit maybe from two humbuckers instead of single coils but it depends on what u play.

Construction is a solid as a rock. Its got armour or something coz this thing doesn't want to get scratched! Well it does have 2 tiny weeny little dings that no one can see but that is all. Metal bits are a tiny bit rusted but that is what u get when u buy a 10 year old guitar that was worth $699 US dollars in 1992 and u buy it years later for about $200 US ($360 Aussie). Anyway...

Jam packed with everything that u need so it excellent. This guitar is an excellent buy if u can find one!
