XY pair of electrostatic condenser microphones.
Fixed angle (90 °).
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for 2 years soon. I love this microphone. For the price, Rode gives us a professional quality microphone to sound warm and precise, versatile and with the stereo to record very well moods, instruments (very well overhead drums), etc ... Comes in a solid briefcase PVC with several accessories (cable jack, foam protection against small gusts of wind, clip, XLR cable ...).
A very good point: the possibility to power the microphone with a 9v battery. It can really help to use on consumer devices.
Obviously we can find better stereo microphones, but for that you need to pay the price.
Here the quality / price ratio is almost unbeatable!
I think I do it again this choice.
EDIT 16/12/08: A small passage from different experiments on location filming and studio. All uses have confirmed the high quality of this microphone, relative to its price. Its signal / noise ratio is very good deal with more expensive microphones. Very good results on various recordings of outdoor environments. Too bad it does not exist in version ORTF!
