Shure SRH840

The Shure SRH 840 are closed back studio headphones, economically priced from Shure. They feature 40mm neodymium dynamic drivers, memory foam earpads to provide increased sound isolation and comfort, and an adjustable, padded headband. These are marketed as Professional Monitoring Headphones, though that may be a bit of a misnomer. The frequency response of these is good, but not great. Good bass and mids, but they lack a bit in the highs. Plus, they don't have a flat frequency response. Better for listening or mixing dance music. Not so great for recording orchestral instruments and the like, or monitoring a live mix. The drivers are clear and pretty loud, but if you're a hooligan who wants some permanent hearing damage, a DAC would round them out alright. The cable is detachable, which is nice if you need a longer cable like I did. I mostly bought these for my RV, for music making when I'm on trips. Circumaural headphones are really great for musicians, and enjoying music. The 840's aren't the most attractive thing and I find them a little large(or maybe I just have a small head), I wouldn't take them out for a stroll. They fit the function well for the price. I still find myself going back to my MDR-V6's for a lot of my mixing, but these are probably my second pick in a pinch. The diminished highs aren't too much of a problem most of the time, especially with such good sounding bass. Powerful and round, the bass is very clear. The mids get a little muddy at high volumes but it's not too awful. Generally I mix at low volume so I haven't got a lot of experience cranking the things up, maybe that would even out the highs. Overall, good headphone, worth the money, would buy again. I'd definitely recommend to someone in need of a good, cheap headphone for mixing, unless the place had the more mix friendly and cheaper MDR-V6's.

Perfect is not leather!

I was looking for a non-leather headphone! Because I am a vegan musician (as Paul McCartney) and the SRH 840 is all plastic very good .

Nothing to say I have changed many times hardware configuration, but the 840 SRH him always remained with me nor do I ever intend to change because it is like new even after many years of service.

What do you use this headset (sound recording, mixing, mastering, live, studio ...)?

Nothing to say it is very nice to have on the ears and I think it's healthier to have leather on the ears for hours of music.

Purchased from this output and it is like new it's all plastic but very good we feel that it's solid.

Neutral! I find it perfect for my current use which is based exclusively on the computer music.

I tried many other models Senheiser, BeyerDynamic, AKG, AudioTechnica.

I use it primarily on my Eleven Rack to play the guitar. The rendering is really excellent, a good dynamic and neutral enough for a guitarist. In other places I used to listen to music and again I rediscovered some of my albums that I used to listen to on my MP3. Video games, again it is perfect.

It does not isolate too but enough for me, much more than BeyerDynamic DT880 pro.

Her outfit is perfect even for small heads.

The wire is detachable, can be folded for storage, comes with a pair of replacement foam.

Only criticism I can make is its weight, a little heavy but not unbearable either.

Compared to SHURE940, it seems to me less plastic and more robust.

The best in its price range. Very satisfied with my purchase!

Good headphones for the stereo (what's left) and for audio

It comes after a very long line of headphones, my first one of Pioneer 1973 and a semi Sennheiser opened in 1977, through a ruined sony 7506 (good for my sensitive ears).

Currently I use a HiFi for Sennheiser HD600 and Grado SR 80 with a clear preference for the Grado for its smoothness, softness and extent of the audio spectrum.

For scratches and home studio, a Sennheiser HD 25 and the Shure.


Level definition, the Shure is very fine, very low down without artificial hump and a wide stereo image close to the open headphones.

The sound insulation is not at the top from the HD25, the neighbors hear nothing but means a lot more than an HD25.

The fastening system of the cable is perfect and the pellets stained for properly donning, comfort is very good even with glasses, the performance is good on both an MP3 player and a console.

It is not tiring, always in the sweetness and depth from the Ear-Rape sold by Sony (MDR 7506) or for time (HD25)

Given the strength of the cable and the quality of materials headsets, I do not need to take a lead
