Best value:
Excellent
The technical characteristics with easily found on the net, I do not dwell on it ...
Just a small point that is rarely mentioned: unlike that might suggest a little flashy colors of the beast, the rack is made of good thick plate well, the trimmer offent resistance to rotation of good quality and a guarantee of stability adjustments when they are handled, it's solid!
UTILIZATION
I post voluntarily and almost "out of the box to" ease of use of any electronic machine is for me an essential point:
General Setup: Installation is very simple, you plug the right taken in the right places, you configure the I / O sound card and go!
Manual: provided in English and French in an excellent translation, it is clear and complete. Each section is dealt with very simple and can immediately test the machine. Only criticism, the manual is common with the Nord Lead and Nord Rack, in my opinion it does not include enough about the specifics of the latter (eg MIDI connections are bound to be different and are not detailed).
Editions sounds (no effects per se!): Clavia's great strength. From a preset whatsoever, no problem for crushing in all directions at its convenience, each button or volume pot with a specific function. Freedom of expression and creativity is there!
The black dot, but it is very personal: I like to use the arpeggiator, that of the Nord Rack 2X is of excellent quality but its scanning speed is controlled by a potentiometer adjustment range is too narrow in practice does not "stall" the arpeggiator on a specific tempo. I liked the tempo control via digital display, close to BPM, just for this part arpeggiator.
SOUNDS
Sounds: fabulous. Rather I am in electronics and printing that gives me the Nord Rack is a piece can be constructed from A to Z with him, including drums. They are not "realistic" in the sense that they do not try to imitate the "real" instruments. The Rack is not made for that. It merely produce synthesizer sounds excellent and that's all I ask!
Expression: pointless since I pilot with my master keyboard (Axiom 61) that allows all settings reaction to the keys.
Sound: all are good, basses, leads, tablecloths. Some are less pleasing to the ear than others but it is very subjective and mostly just 2 or 3 to manipulate controls on the front to make it sound better depending on the sensitivity of each!
There is no real effects: in practice the "body" of the sound with sculpted filters and envelope enough to get the desired results.
OVERALL OPINION
Time: one week
Testing alternative models: yes and no, it was mostly a long search on the internet with videos of demos of lots and lots of expanders in the same price range
What I like most: ease of use and quality sound
The least: as mentioned above, the lack of a precisely adjustable tempo for the arpeggiator
Value for money: excellent. The price seems perfectly justified given the qualities of the machine.
With experience, would you do this choice without hesitation. Of course I have yet to experience this but I have a feeling that the Nord Rack 2X is a synth that "custody" as it lets out all kinds of sounds. Besides it is always Catalogue Clavia in a world race for ever more unbridled technology is a sign. Very good
