4 I sent two email on the guitar pro support for their problems and explain the still no answers after a month!
Please do not make the mistake of buying it you'll regret it unless you have a very powerful PC or Mac with lots of RAM and again ...

Writing for electric guitar presents a lot of difficulties when it comes to traditional scoring software, so since its first version Guitar Pro has been a must for every guitar player that wants to leave a detailed written version of their creations or transcriptions. For some, it has even become a part of the composition process in guitar-oriented tracks (a clear interface and a focus on speed writing are crucial tools).

That being said, I was sad to see I was having problems with Guitar Pro 6 from the moment I installed it. It took me a while until it recognized my EMU Tracker Pre or my M-Audio FastTrack. The interface is accessible enough but confusing to those who come from previous versions of Guitar Pro and wish to continue working in the same fashion(I'm not complaining about changes here, Sibelius 7 was a big step forward because it was actually easier to use once you got used to it).

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

As soon as a file is loaded the screen is filled with an invasive lateral toolbar that leaves no actual writing space. This, of course, slows down work either if you come from previous versions (because you will have to readjust to the new writing space) or if you just find it comfortable to have a nice perspective of everything you are writing or reading.

I've had quite a few random crashes (but then again, this has always been an issue with Guitar Pro). It also shows slowdowns even when the PC should fully support it. In my mind, those are huge setbacks: the main purpose of Guitar Pro is to provide a stable transcription tool. The other great problem is compatibility with sound interfaces: it took me some time to get the playback correctly working and not lagging after reproduction.

OVERALL OPINION

I have used Guitar Pro for as long as I can remember. Years before the idea of becoming a musician had crossed my mind I used to spend an awful lot of time writing 'songs' on Guitar Pro. I remember I used to complain about the unrealistic MIDI sound. Now that I work as a professional musician I wish Guitar Pro would go back to that. As the versions pass Arobas tries to cram into Guitar Pro more and more tools for 'realistic' sound (studio effects, amps, pedals, etc.), forgetting that this software was originally intended for transcription.

The result is a transcription software that has sacrificed stability and performance (and those definitely weren't issues they had already mastered!), as well as usability and efficiency, just to add a half-hearted attemp at modelation and emulation. It has passed from being a very useful and reliable tool to a mediocre program. I'd definitely reccomend to any user of older versions (specially 2, 3 and 4) to stick with that.

I was a user of Guitar Pro 5 PC no problems being passed on Mac, I order before yesterday Guitar Pro 6 the internet. Collection of payment for immediate receipt of internet access codes download without problem. One major difficulty, unable to start the application for 2 days. Different contacts with customer service via the Internet ... I look after them there problems similar installation? Thank you for your help.
Response non-commercial when I ask the refund, the interlocutor said it is not possible ... so I buy software that does not start on my Mac???

Easy installation is quick choice to import the database or not CSR (according to our usage and hard disk space ^ ^)
No compatibility issues with windows 7 64bit anyway.

Not need to understand the operation manual, and even less when we have bases of music theory.

I use it frequently and over a year.
I try free spreadsheets found on the net, version 4 and 5 of Guitar Pro ... nothing compares.

* GP5 offered the opportunity to build the battery pack "solfègique" AND so "tablature" with a number corresponding to an element (38 = clear box / 40 = kick). The latter approach has been eliminated in version GP6 which is unfortunate, because if Guitar Pro is designed for drummers guitarist more than it would have been better to just keep this scoring system, especially for non-drummers for have the opportunity to learn the nomenclature battery.

Despite the drawbacks, if I do it again if necessary choices because I have not found better yet.

Very disappointed with the sound quality. The CSR has become a sacred soup, both in GP5 was loud, but at least we differentiated the notes. Oh, there might be ways to clarify everything. But I have other things to do than configure sound for one hour to read music which will last 2 minutes and moreover will reset when you next open the software.

iMac purchased in July 2012, 4GB ram, i5 ... In short, not enough to make one less excuse for the crash.

Performance? I would love to know them, the software systematically plant startup after a crash while using it, since, impossible to reuse. It is an expensive single-use software!
The little I've seen, or rather hear, is that the nuances are poorly managed for all instruments: the height of the track volume varies with the frequency of notes. As for the piano, WHETHER OR WINDOWS ON OSX, the notes are more acute and more they are low in volume.

Never trust the piano in general; For Mac user: use with a Windows partition.

I use it for around 2 years on PC and Mac in recent months.
It crashes fairly regularly on PC (required to record all operations 2) and more awful lot on the Mac.
I had five GP on PC which previously worked fine.

Quality / price ratio: since version "exploitable" Mac has been completely botched it is very expensive for a single use.

With experience, I regret very bitterly of having paid to use it. A word ...

guitar pro 6 is a real disappointment for me ...
I always use guitar pro or tux guitar, because they wore out their names.
This was for guitarists logicels therefore centers on the tabs.

guitar pro 6 has additional ambitions, certainly become "pro partition" ...

Here is the list of issues that annoy:

- More likely to put on an even different velocities (or at the battery for example)
- More likely to get the batteries or other instrument via tabs.
We must get used to each scoring system (including battery).
We should all be able to read / write the solfege to battery?
If I buy this GUITAR pro is because I want an easy to use, quick to understand and for this software, tab-centric.
I do not buy Guitar Pro to find myself with a partition editor like the others ....
- The copy-paste is less convenient than before
- The copy-paste the layout of the tabs annihilated therefore must start all over after a hand ... thank you ...
- Crash too.

Personal opinion:
- The CSR is unnecessary, especially considering the quality of sound ...

If you want a simple tool to transcribe your songs (I'm talking about rock / pop / metal, if you make the classical / rap at the base, this is not the software you need), rather look at the rating tux guitar. It's free and easy.

Used on an iMac Core i3 with 12 GB of RAM one would hope that all is for the better ... Well no! Repeated crashes, bugs incomprehensible!

OVERALL OPINION

Purchased for a TAB notation software quality to achieve my classes, with additional banks that fortunately is not too expensive, though ... Where I'm running a Pro Logic without problems charged with virtual instruments galore, plugins everywhere on a groin of 20 tracks, Guitar Pro 6, well it it crashes with 4 or 5!!
I am extremely disappointed with this software, unstable, but without practical enough to cry genius, and above all, and this is perhaps where the problem probably botched integration at mac ....
To read some reviews it seems that at least version 5 was best accomplished under windows ...
In short I bought it and I regret it ...

Guitar Pro 6 is the latest edition of the very successful guitar tabulature program. It's one of the few notation software made with the guitarist in mind. As a multi instrumentalist, I appreciate all of the classical elements of music notation available, and as a guitarist, I love all of the tab-based accents, such as slides, hammers, strums, chording, and even wah.

In the newest version, one of the biggest additions is the extensive selection of guitar amps, pedals, and other studio effects that can be used on the playback sound. Although very, very far from sounding real, and even far behind guitar amp emulation, it is a very useful tool, especially considering the guitar is totally synthesized. You may need some imagination to hear the heavier guitar tones, but a wonderful tool nonetheless. But with the wealth of classic amps, distortion pedals, compressions, and delays, Guitar Pro 6 brings something very new to the notation software table.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Guitar Pro has been a big of a resource hog in the past, on my older computers; I remember my old laptop struggling to play the guitar tones in real time without glitching and lagging. But I've had no problems with Guitar 6 on my current Windows 7 system. Playback timing is accurate, it doesn't glitch, and it is reasonably fast switching the playback on and off quickly.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, this is a powerful tool that every guitarist and musician can use in some way. With flexibility to work with many instruments, including drums and piano, and with a staff and mixer interface that is relatively straightforward, it only takes a little musical knowledge to work your way though this program. And with Guitar Pro's smart guitar tabbing logic, it is always simple and easy to lay out guitar tabs.

I do wish there was a sustain function, for when I notate piano lines, and I do wish the guitar sounds were a little more realistic. But it has certainly never been easier to share tabs and guitar lines with all of my friends with this software.

Installation is no problem since it is a 32bit OS.
Regarding the 64bit, installation is simply impossible, or it must tinker fully its OS to make it compatible, and yet ... (Several tests on 64bit Linux distro).

An Internet connection is required to activate the software.

Otherwise, I turn on an Ubuntu 4.12 32bit PAE, and no worries.

GP6 is installed on my laptop ASUS N53J because my fixed in Ubuntu 11.10 64bit and poses too many problems with this app). Core i5-450M, 4GB RAM, OS Ubuntu 4.12 32bit PAE.

Level performance, nothing to say, never any lag even on tabs more than 10 tracks. GP6 is a little space in RAM. According to my tests, to have very good perfs, one must have mini 2GB of RAM for Linux, and 3GB for a Seven.

The software works well, a crash from time to time but it is fairly rare, and often after several hours of use. An application restart and go again, where one was (GP6 made backups of itself and as a measure of mods).

OVERALL OPINION

I use it since the first day of its release, I am very pleased overall. The sound quality of different instruments is excellent, and can be adjusted through different equalizer really well made. This is a very professional software vaiment worth its price. In addition, consistent with the three major OS (windows / mac / linux).

I tried the free software "tuxguitar", but it still has quite a delay relative to GP6.

I still regret not taking care of 64bit on Linux, which is still annoying considering the performance of current machines (and thus the generalization of 64bit systems).
Some random crashes may be a little annoying, but nothing too serious, and it's still very casual.
I also regret the lack of this app followed by developers: Updates too few and hence the bugs rarely, if ever corrected! And upgrade requests, notament for 64bit, are simply being forgotten.

I would do anyway this choice, this software is essential to me to me and other members of my group.

I use it extensively for 2 weeks to decide quickly whether or not I continue on this product.
The main feature is that this product is like, looks very attractive at first use but gradually shows that it does not have any Sufis were tested before being marketed. The customer pays the piper.
Not to mention banks of sounds, very poor, not to mention those that can be downloaded from the website but ... pay! Mind you, this has never killed anyone. The ridiculous.

Toolbars fixed and drafts, and description propréiétés tracks: it is zero, the instrument does not even appear next to the name of the track (it must be given the name of the instrum or nothing), publishing "The total", I import a lot of. mid, but then fail to notes where needed is July 14, can not load GP5 without updates, to believe that no one tried before it is sold.

100% depressing!!

Im a long time Guitar Pro user (since version 4) on Windows (XP, Vista 7) and OSX.
Before the change to OSX 10.7 it was running ok at best. After Lion it has become a nightmare of a software.
It will not recognize the sound card, regardless of it being the build-n card or any external interface, such as MOTU 896 MkIII, AVID Eleven Rack, and forget Axe-Fx 2 for this since the software only plays nice at 44.1 kHz sample rate.

The basic idea of it as a transcription app is sound. It worked great up to version 5. There are some weird short comings like midi export does not include pitch bends you draw into the tab, or print outs insist on having dynamics marks. But the ingest issue is that not only does the current version not want to run on Lion even though the developer claims its Lion compatible, even worse their support is beyond lame. Their standard question to the same recurring problem by numerous customers is have you switched your audio deice to 44.1 kHz.

OVERALL OPINION

If they get around to making it run stable again it will be ok. Not great! Before the issue with Lion it had a tendency to play back at the wrong pitch (sample rate issue). Therefore being completely unusable as a play along unless you changed the tuning of the program.

My suggestion for any one looking at transcription software would be to look into the programs notion music offers.
Also the display options and fonts are nothing you would expect from a transcription software. I've dabbled in Sibelius which looks amazing, and am used to do my wok in Finale which also looks great and the printed end results are not comparable.I just downloaded the den for Notion and that seems to do everything I need in the way I do, and look the way it should. Unlike this disappointment of a software.

So, here we will laugh a little.
For the config, it's old: P4 2.8Ghz, 2GB DDR, 320GB disks of 3 / 8 partitions.
Win XP: the CSR jump all the time, I was quickly taken the lead ... disabled, reading the bar that moves randomly ... the transition to a higher version is not top if that is nothing new aesthetics: here disappointed.
Linux (ubuntu studio / gnome) and ... magic enters the CSR turn niquel certainly a bit much (always between 65 and 85%), but it's not pop, it does not lague ... and the bar reading a ultra smooth motion, everything works niquel! ... Go just for the retail angry: you can not use timidity to leave a beautiful sound directly south of the tabs GP: p

It's been 3 months that I passed ...
Its main advantage is open to the world of free (For that, thank QT: p): linux today, tomorrow maybe BSD, who knows?
Of course ... one could compare it to its "rival" free: tuxguitar, who made a great tablature, but is less handy for writing that GP.
What can blame him ... the window of the fretboard sloppy, they have not even taken the time to give it a name, they left the "Qt-subapplication". A little bugged too ... But hey, these are just details.

Ouch.

I own a MacBook Pro 2010 with a Core 2 GHz Duo@2.4. The fact open a tab with GP6 not even start playing implies a consumption of 100% of one of two hearts. So the laptop heats up, the fan gets under way, and so on. Not cool. Including a brand new facility.

Rating: 3 - The problem of overconsumption of resources on a computer powerful enough irritates me greatly at the highest point.

OVERALL OPINION

Finally ... I just read my scores on the iPhone if I have to work only a few measures of tablature. Time to put them in mind. It is unfortunate that GP6 has become a gas plant instead of a simple and effective soft as could be older versions of GP.

Final score: 5 - A feeling of not finished damage.

Installing without worries on a MacBook Pro. one little problem: can not activate it via a proxy (manually activated ok).

I use it for a week to print work using tabs and playback. The new banks of sounds are fine, as more than enough to work.
I like sequencer Cubase LE 4: this is not the same use as Guitar Pro. I have not tested other products of this type (there are there?)
I have not yet tested the imported MIDI file.
Super money. Finally a software of very good quality at an affordable price, I do it again this choice without hesitation.

Laborious installation if the PC is not connected to the web or locked behind a proxy, web site very tight-lipped about updates, install sound banks not documented. A little galley first. For further updates, it's easier.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The software opens the scores much slower than the version 4 software. The PC is not very recent (Athlon 2.7 GHz) and has 1Gb of RAM. The CSR is nice, but greedy. My CPU goes up to 30% for the rendering of a partition with 3 tracks. If not for the work in the tool itself is fluid.

OVERALL OPINION

I purchased the upgrade from version 4 to its output, all lured by new opportunities for ratings. And they are waiting for you. The notation is complete and I lack nothing. The software has been completely revised. The result is very beautiful. For me it was not necessary. The ergonomics of the version 4 was enough.
The CSR is a cool gadget but dispensable. This new version contains a lot of configuration options and have passed their usefulness. The app is generally pleasant to use, but it took time and a fair gripe. The stability is improved a lot since the release of May. Importing files gp4 is not exceptional but is still honest, export to gp5 format is finally proposed.
The Borwer disappeared. It gives me a big negative. By itself this would justify a negative rating if there were significant improvements in terms of scoring.

No unfortunately I purchased to install on a Mac G5 with Mac OSX 10.5.8 lopard. Before I buy m'tais Misrepresenta biensur about setting have. And on the box reads from mac osx 10.4.

And very nasty surprise, impossbile to install it on my mac as specific on their site it in tiny "intel mac" only! Shame, the Mac G5 are not so old that has and should be able to install guitar pro without problem. So I had to install on my pc portalbe!

So once installed on my pc (vista) that it is regularly planted my printer. Virtually impossible to print with version 6! require the use of 5!

OVERALL OPINION

Basically I do not like this version that I no longer use. For entering my own partitions, I use version 4, which is best for me so far. The sounds of version 6 are horrible! can be discerned even more different instruments. Not to mention all these plug ins pedal to effect selection of microphone that serve absolutely nothing except the sound adjuncts dfromer! Guitar pro must remain a spreadsheet software partition and not a virtual instrument with squenceur. Then come back to a simpler version as 4 thank you.
