Tom Anderson Cobra

Tom Anderson CobraPublished on 10/31/01 at 15:00
I bought this guitar in 1997 at American Music, Seattle, USA. It cost me 1,700 US Dollars (this is the price before the economic crisis). I am so lucky!!!!

Beautiful guitar with maple on the top!!!! Great work!!! I like the neck that is not too big and not too thin. Easy access to the deepest frest (22 frets). No tremolo, so it is easy to tune it. Rich tone especially middle sound from mahogany body. Thin body and comfortable to play. Stay in tune for all the time.

Very expensive!! I'm not sure whether is it worth my money or not!? If compare to Gibson or Paul Reed Smith I'm not sure that my guitar is better or not because the price is quite similar.

Mahogany body with maple on the top. Gold hard ware. Fixed bridge(no tremolo). Beautiful!!!!

If you are rich enough, buy it!!!! You will be satisfied with it I'm sure. Very neat work guitar and very beautiful!!! Great tone!! However, before you decide to buy any new guitar you'd better try the stuffs like Gibson, Paul Reed Smith, Brian Moore, and whatever that you can try because these stuffs are fucking expensive. So think carefully!!

Anderson's unique supertele

Tom Anderson CobraPublished on 05/14/11 at 15:46
Among the amazing guitars that Tom Anderson offers comes the Cobra. It's a very unique guitar that takes on the Telecaster shape instead of the more famous Stratocaster shape. Given that these are semi-custom guitars, they come with tons of options. However, the main features of every Cobra are a 24.75'' scale length, mahogany body with either a maple, walnut or koa top, and tons of other options that could really go on forever.

UTILIZATION

Tom Anderson guitars are some of the best guitars put together in the entire world, bar none. The fretwork on these things is just impeccable. The necks come with tons of options that all feel wonderful, too. Tom Anderson is using a unique 2 bolt wedge joint that actually is more stable than nearly any other neck joint out there on the market. The wedge that he makes means it doesn't shift like most other necks do. The coolest feature is actually the Switcheroo system which really opens up tons of possibilities in terms of tone.

SOUNDS

The Cobra sounds very mean and fat sounding. It has a strong low mid focus, but the Anderson pickups make everything sound extremely clear. Anderson pickups are a more unique take on conventional pickups in that the humbuckers are actually two full sized single coils put together instead of the normal half sized that most people use. The pole pieces are also oversized to help gather more magnetic field than normal pickups. My favorite pickups that Anderson offers are probably the H1 and H3. These seem to work great from everything to jazz to all out metal.

OVERALL OPINION

If you're looking for one of the best guitars money can buy, you really need to get a Tom Anderson. They can be a bit expensive when looking for one new, but check out used prices. For whatever reason, their resale value is a bit weak, and I have no clue why. The Cobra is a great guitar for those looking for an almost Les Paul kinda sound out of a superstrat guitar. The only reason I rated this a 9 instead of a 10 was because of the price and that I'm not a huge tele shape fan.
