Great-clean with great headroom. the sound does not easily crunch.
It will overdrive channel crunch to overdrive. the boost is very useful to push in the last entrenchment.

this amp is very dynamic with a lot of harmonics (thanks to EL84). the 20W are inflated to steroids. more than enough for group play (for me by garage rock).

I bought 6 months ago OCCAZ. super happy, I like the sound. The amp exudes strength, simplicity and efficiency.
this is my second amp lamps. (Before I RG50TC 50 watt EL34)
excellent value for money.
I'm curious to try the other model series of the statesman.

characteristics are atypical this is why we can love ... or not.
tube combo, good finish black or brown dress aesthetically very successful (neither too flashy nor austere).
two channels, I use mostly the clean channel with effects loop so without using a spring reverb.

UTILIZATION

the clean channel is the real surprise was sounds very fine, very subtle when it exceeds a third of the gain. there is a booster frequency switchable manually or via a special switch, I do use it almost never.

the crunch channel does not much we could do with a bit of rock but it does not sound great with overdrive or distortion or I do not know too much to deal with him.

the effects loop has no dedicated volume regardless, there is a balance that allows reverb if you use the internal reverb to have two levels (one per channel).

SOUNDS

quite adequate light, without going into the fenders to 1000 euros is a very satisfactory clean. I lean rather than fat crystal side, the sound is a little typed up what it takes.

OVERALL OPINION

3 years, the lamps are original and appear not which is reassuring. this model is no longer for sale but if you have the opportunity to have one (used therefore) not hesitate this is a very good machine inexpensive.

UTILIZATION

Using fairly simple you initiated the single switch (no standby), allowed to warm you and you take a slap his dj sounds very well.

J'utilie this amp with a Fender Stratocaster, to make it red hot nirvana and a whale in Mount duncan (pealy gates/sh4) for the hard it is terrible!
With some small rglages you can have a war machine at home.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 months, I possdais a Vox AC30 that I loved but lacked versatility (especially in the distortion), the Statesman Entire given me satisfaction, I just love everything about this amp, it is fairly lightweight, good quality of Sonoita extras and a pretty face.
In this price range and up to 1000's The AMP it takes to rock, I tried a Laney lionheart home and he could not pin the Statesman, if you alos like the rock of yesterday and today, that you like also the era of hard and you do NWPD 700-800 rflechiss more!
Report quality more than acceptable price I ordered it on silent in DV247 rduction I got it for 680 fdp included.
I would do without this choice hsit one second

For jazz / rock / hard is Good

Start on a PC 60 I t's quite disturbed at dpart defined by the "explosiveness" it's true that I left a AD50VT (not a monster of energy) and the clarity and the smallest intonations on how to play.

Extraordinary richness and dtail sounds and exceptional clarity and brightness a bit like the Fender Hot Rod with which I have long hsit!

The variety of sound can not just be standard but there are sound quality (as it is a site from the vintage amp sound british in the us (cf see Judge Dredd s / video in the black box on the H & K Quad El 84 sharing the same struture as the dual 84 El sf power 40w instead of 20w)

There is no sound that I really dtest, the best compliment one can make is that redcouvre songs with a sentence and a wealth of sounds (harmonic touch and play) we do not have supper.

OVERALL OPINION

Least not to have a wider range of sounds (but it is true that I leave a Valvetronix AD50) and an output line Xlr Like Koch

I tried the hot rod fender (surf green with versions hp celestion G80 are the ones that attracted me the most with 30 vintage and not apprci std version to the Eminence blah blah!) It Apparently there are big problems of reliability (breakdown Resistors on a circuit Shma erroneous and quality construction so and so. I had a long and famous hsit clear sound but I enthousisam its really not discharge to a volume control (mouth right away) and crunch sosna anecdotal and saturation!

The Koch also does an alternative:
The Studiotone 2 a little short (good sound but little amp sounds c trs medium)
The Twintone 2assez sduisant but in 1200 a budget too much for me.

I also tried the version H & K 25th Anniversary 20w 600 trs good question (amp lamp) but with less the possibility that the Dual el 84.

The quality of cosntruction really trssrieuse (Germany requires) and pure 840 ena we pay for!

I do it again this election, it's true that I look a panel dpart brand without thinking H & K, an ide prconsue because I do not regret at all the discoveries.

This is the Statesman amp series from Hughes and Kettner. These amps have a polished bluesy rock quality to them. These are not the super high gainers that most of there amps lean towards. These amps have a mild voicing for classic rock and blues based music. This is a four channel or two channel amp depending on how you look at it. You get a clean with a twang boost and then the overdrive channel with a boost. So to me this is a two channel amp with four settings.

This is a 20 watt amp that has a spring reverb unit inside and three band EQ. If you play classic rock or just need an amp with a good overdrive but not a hot rod tone then this is a great amp to have. This amp is the same as the Quad version but with only 2 El84 power tubes. The wattage will be lowered to 20 watts rather than 40 so you'll have less headroom but more crunch without having to turn the amp up louder. This is the exact same amp as the black standard tolex but just in a nice oxblood tolex covering. You get the same great tone and features but just in a more suitable cosmetic up grade.

This tone is the same as the other black tolex version. That would be the only change and that is the outside. This amp will have more crunch at lower volumes since it is half the wattage of the Quad. The tone is more of a dry tone that takes pedals very well and has a great switchable effects loop. The clean is very twangy and fits for pop or country picking. Use a Fender Telecaster with this channel and you feel some great quick lead plucking. Then you click on the twang boost and then you get a nice boost in the highs and there you have perfect sparkle tone that doesn't just go with country but any style of music.

The overdrive channel is a good overdrive for classic rock, pop, country, and jazz. This is a good channel for the guys who just need a little gain that will compliment their guitars rather then a distortion that is just screaming. These are great amps for the simple player who loves tone. What I like about this amp is that the EL84 tubes makes this amp fit better with the voicing of the amp. The 6L6's or El34's don't match as well with the way this amp feels and is voiced towards.

At new these amps come in right at around $959, which is a great price a very good quality build and sounding combo amplifier. This is a great two channel amp that has some good features but not too much going on that clouds the natural tone of the amp. I I would recommend this amp to anyone who need a good combo for light rock, country, or pop music.

Tube amp (two 12AX7 and two EL84), very powerful: 20W lamps sufficient to be heard in groups. settings are learned very quickly (go to the website of "Judge Fredd" it is an essay on the Quad, the Dual is not much different level settings) at the rear there is a small knob to adjust the Balance of reverb is not as jerky as idea ...

UTILIZATION

Config. very simple (even I have included): 2 channels (bright and distortion.) function "Twang" to make the sound more clear "net" and "vintage", and "boost" function for the distortion have a more aggressive (which I believe is much better than Marshall. But that is only my opinion, I must be the only one not love this brand). The manual is not bad, although it lacks many details when to change lamps, but I would be concerned on the day. Just the right sound quickly (must leave lights heat 2-3 minutes and go) with a good scraper can push the gain high enough without the distortion that it makes a big sound rotten.

I want a vintage sound, so yes it suits me perfectly, I play it with an Ibanez Prestige RGA121 (mounted with Seymour Duncan SH1 and SH4 always for its Vintage). Overall whatever settings you remain in the crystal clear sound, it's not an amp designed for heavy metal, therefore the sound is bold to forget: there are many means by pushing the max gain but there is more music.

OVERALL OPINION

I have since November 2009, before that I tried a Vox AC30 CC2 and a Peavey Classic 30. Dual EL84 is less expensive than the Vox and more expensive than the Peavey. The Vox has no distortion itself and the Classic did not have a distortion. as incisive and did not sound that met my expectations as well as that of Hughes And Kettner.

All Tube 20w amp, equipped with EL 84. 2 channels, bright, saturated one. Opportunity to clear the dirty with a function "twang" and boost the saturation just a boost. All controlled by a foot footswich intégré.Reverb spring. Effects loop. Equalo 3 bands. Practice: Balance of reverb to the rear for the determination of reverb on the light or the full, without having to fiddle with the settings to change the channel.

UTILIZATION

Config ultra simple. One branch is allowed to heat 2 minutes, and here we go. The amp is very solid, can be transported without risk of breakage, within the necessary precautions for the use of any lights. a bit heavy to carry (about 20kg I think) but comfortable leather handle. Do not have to walk more than 50m with, otherwise it becomes difficult. No standby, is it really necessary for small EL84?

After a very characteristic Blues Junior, I was looking for a little more versatility without losing the heat lamps. So I tried by chance that H & K that I was advised by the vendor at the bottom of my home.

In the clear: I was immediately surprised by the clarity and warmth of her with my firebird equipped minihumbucker. The amp is powerful, but the lights react even at low volumes. By mounting it becomes smooth, and not at all aggressive. The lamps are operated. Twang function skips to sound more American a little more dirty, a little less clear than the English law that is issued without the twang. Ideal for blues, funk, jazz.

In full: It's a sound I do not know, because accustomed to the very clear sounds of Fender amps. The saturation is tough, delicious, 100% vintage. I'm a fan of ZZ Top and the sound comes close altogether. The rough blues rockers or smelling perspiration navigate. The boost is a final kick in the ass, and then it gets a little richer in gain, but still concervant nuances. The OD is adjustable, ranging from light to heavy punchy, but still vintage. No modern distortion on that. In full, the lamps must speak only a little more clear, we must mount a little volume to fully exploit the son.Super for rock.

I regret:
- No master volume or attenuator that would operate the lamps at the bottom at low volume work by the preamp (I play in the apartment), that said, it's still very manageable, it is only 20w
- A reverb a little short (I made use of it and abused on the Fender) on the H & K rule I always thoroughly

Amp that is very tolerant of external effects. That said, I am very happy with the basic sounds, I use with little effect (tremolo, delay, wah)

I use the past week, this amp suits me in every way! Value for money excellent (but I got a prize) if he turns around 850 €, and then it becomes limit price.

I did not put 10 because it lacks a master volume I got. I have a volume pedal that I plug in the effects loop is perfect.

UTILIZATION

I can not find the configuration bit easier. Is lit, it heats up, we play. It is also for its simplicity I have chosen 3-band equalizer which responds very well.

For the manual, frankly not needed. It's really the combination amp / guitar perfect without making head. I played with no effects for 1 year, and frankly, I rgaler ...

the sound is surprisingly clear, I would say a marvel, warm and crystalline. The Twang small button is perfect to make the sound more warm.

I played with a combination Pod XT Live and power engine 60, and what I wanted, c'tait an amp that can give me sound out vintage and modern without these buttons rglages to find the right note.
The HK is perfect for my ears, that's really what I wanted.
Can I get his jazz, funk, blues, crunch, rock. For the metal, it lacks a bit of power, but it gets very heavy when the Rock even with good rglages.

This is 1 year I use the amp and it was a year and a half as I wanted.
What I like most is its simplicity and versatility Audible (vintage and modern)
I think it's excellent value / quality prices
I would do the purchase of this amp no problem. I would like other amps, of course, but I would keep this amp, I think it goes very well with my style of play I would take other more typ amp for a choice of music more focused . I'd go see spares when other worlds)

This is a tube amp with 2 channels that is made by Hughes and Kettner, a German company that makes quality amplifiers. The two channels are clean and drive. The amp is only 20 watts, however, don't let that discourage you, wattage is not comparable to loudness. There is only one 1/4" input. There is a volume knob for the clean channel, and a master volume and gain knob for the drive channel. The EQ is three-band (bass, middle, treble) and works for both channels. There are also additional features, boost and twang. Boost increases the gain slightly and works well for playing leads. The twang feature changes the sound to make it more twangy, it does exactly what it implies.

UTILIZATION

I thought that only having one EQ for both channels was going to be a problem, but I've found lately that I don't really think that's the case. Mostly, my drive channel has a similar tone to the clean, just with a little more dirt on it. Usually an EQ setting that works for the clean channel will also work for the Drive. I find that having the footswitch that can control the channel settings, as well as the boost and twang settings, is a nice touch. It makes playing live much easier if you need to adjust settings or kick the gain up a little bit for a solo. It does take a while to dial in a nice sound compared to some other amps but that's not really a problem.

SOUNDS

I really like the sound of this amp a lot. I don't think that it has the "perfect" sound but I like the variety of tones that you can get. The clean sound is good, I definitely prefer using a single-coiled guitar like a Tele or Strat with it, it sounds better than a Les Paul or SG, though hollow bodies sound good too. The clean tones in those respect are crisp, smooth, and warm. I think that the drive channel has more universal appeal. With a single-coiled guitar, the best tones are the low-gain, high volume overdrive tones. With a humbucking guitar like a Les Paul, the heavier, more distorted tones are phenomenal. This isn't to say that you can't do the opposite, it's just that heavy distortion will make a single-coil guitar very noisy. Humbuckers also tend to weaken a lighter overdrive, at least to me. Either way there's a lot of variety to be had here.

OVERALL OPINION

I like the variety of tones that are possible with this amp. I don't really like the fact that there is so much fiddling with buttons to get those varieties of sound, but as long as you aren't playing 3 or 4 different genres at a time this shouldn't be much of a problem. I think that it is a great bargain even new, so finding a used one is a great deal. The sound quality overall is superb. I've played a lot of tube amps and this holds up with some of my favorites. I'd recommend that many people check this amp out, I'm sure many folks would be satisfied.
