Reeves - Amps Custom Reeves 100Published on 11/23/10 at 12:58
The Reeves Amps Custom Reeves 100 is a guitar amplifier head that is an exact replica of a Hiwatt amplifier head. Like the name states, the amp gives off 100 watts of power and consists of four EL34 output tubes and 3 12AX7 preamp tubes. You also get the option of using the amp at either 4, 8, or 16 ohms. As far as connections go, it's got two 1/4" jacks each for both a normal and bright input. In the back there is also an output for sending the amp to a speaker cabinet.

    UTILIZATION

    UTILIZATION

You're definitely a good amount of control with the Reeves Amps Custom Reeves 100. In terms of setting controls, it gives you knobs for both normal and bright volume, bass, treble, and middle EQ's, presence, and an overall master volume knob as well. There's not much to using the amp beyond that, so a manual isn't something that should be necessary.

    SOUNDS

The tone of the Reeves Amps Custom Reeves 100 is outstanding all the way around. It really does not get much better sounding than this, as it's one of the fullest and cleanest sounding amplifiers that I've ever used. The studio that I work at has one of these in our B room, along with a plethora of other boutique amps. This one is all hand wired and it really shows in it's pristine sound quality. I've used the amp with a variety of guitars, but mostly my Fender Strat and Jazzmaster. My guitars sound as good through this amp as any amp I've put them through...

    OVERALL OPINION

The Reeves Amps Custom Reeves 100 is without a doubt one of the best guitar amplifier heads out there that I've got experience with. It's got such a full and clean sound that it's going to be hard to compete with on any level. Having used both the original Hiwatt 100 and the Reeves Amps Custom Reeves 100, I would actually say that I prefer this amp to the original if that's possible. I haven't had an opportunity to compare the two of them side by side, but as good as the Hiwatt 100 is I was definitely more impressed with the Reeves for whatever reason. It's going to be expensive, but if you're looking for a top tier guitar amp head, this is it!
