« My basic sound »
Published on 06/02/11 at 08:17See other review for the technical details. A preamp pedal comprehensive format.
Only regret: the non-switchable effects loop.
Rating: 9 - very well designed, full of features, solid. Too bad it requires so much power (and 12V), it is almost impossible to use with a power type or Voodoo Lab T-Rex.
UTILIZATION
3 cases of use: ESP Eclipse II with EMG 60/81:
1. normal output in a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 with a Celestion G12K-100
2. normal sound card output and sequencer and then IRs Redwirez headphones or monitors
3. HP emulation output sound card and headphones
In all cases it is very easy to get a more accurate sound in moments. No need to book. The difference between the knobs is sufficient.
No worries blast, including a lamp with more gain (JJ / Tesla ECC83). Cons by replacing the lamp, but not that difficult, impractical, it's really a millimeter, large fingers go rowing.
The effects are in the loop series, silent too.
Rating: 9 - RAS.
SOUNDS
It has 3 channels:
Clean: I like very much, very much alive, not cold, fits perfectly with my EMG 60. Maybe a little cruncher, or to become nastier with good overdrive. In any case, do not hesitate to push the gain.
Crunch: here it goes under. Perhaps because of my change of lamp ... It definitely lacks something in the midrange. I prefer the clean with the crunch OD. on the other hand to latch the crunch with OD gives a very nice result on rhythmic metal.
Lead: very very nice. Primarily used on metal rhythm is a bit more compressed than OD + crunch but the result is nicer I think (and prevents tap ^ ^) goes over it. To lead it goes perfect. Big headroom. Please note that from 2am on knob gain, the distortion from the lamp is supported by the clipping diode. The lead channel with my guitar volume down also replaces the crunch channel.
The simulation of HP is not bad, much better than many simus like this, but not worth an IR convolution. In this configuration, it is perfect for recording.
Rating: 8 - Damage to the crunch. Not bad but not great.
OVERALL OPINION
Finally, excellent pedal, metal-oriented (that's good!), Which completely caught me after my post crisis downsizing Axe FX.
Final score: 9 - The average score above.
