OVERALL OPINION

4 years of use (edit: Unfortunately not enough abuse), no worries. I tried other preamps but who do not deserve to be mentioned here ...
1642 euros, mono. Too bad they do makes more, only MP2 stereo version, which seems to be a tasteful solution for everyone who wants to enjoy the special lamps such circuits, a fortiori.

I remake this choice, as far as possible, that means everything.

Definitely a delicacy.

The MP-1A is a pretty standard one channel tube microphone amplifier. It has all the features you need including -20dB pad switch and Polarity Switch. The MP-1A is well built and only weighs less than 20 pounds. It does require 100 VAC power though. The gain range on the MP-1A is 60DB with an input impedance of 100K OHM. The unit can be racked and it will only take up one space. The cost of this amp is well below what it should be, other amps that are of this quality cost about 30 percent more than the MP-1A.


UTILIZATION

A new feature that the MP-1A has is the XLR ¼ input true UV meter along with the phase reverse switches. Set up is easy if you have already worked with similar modules before, but if not it still is easy you might have to glance at the manual to get an understanding of what everything does.


SOUND QUALITY

You can really put the MP-1A into overdrive and still wont experience any humming or distortion. I have used so many pre amps that is a major issue, when you start to push it to the limits you will get humming and distortion. The humming and distortion is almost absent with the MP-1A.


OVERALL OPINION

The price of the MP-1A is by far its best selling point, coming in at a lower price than its competitors makes it a must have. It could be hard to get your hands on one though because I am not sure if you can still buy one new. We are very happy to have used the MP-1a, we used it for quit some time and it went out on us, probably because it was already a semi used unit and we really wore it out on top of that. It did cost too much to fix so we just got rid of it. You wont get a much better sound quality for the price of the MP-1A

What technology is used? (Analog, digital, tube ...)
The MP1A is a mono tube preamp with XLR connectors for balanced inputs and outputs.

The lamps used are 6NI-P and EF86, which are very good qualities as very clear, and with harmonics and a very light color very nice.

Very good equilibria of frequencies across the spectrum Audible.

UTILIZATION

Preamp for all source types. I used it mainly for voice with a AT4050 and the result is excellent. Thanks to one little switch to change the tone color which allowed me to touch the little voice in the mix.

We must let the heat preamp about twenty minutes before using it for all its quality, as with any tube preamps.



SOUND QUALITY

The level of grain and color, I think it is between 610 and AU THE Mp1a Tube Tech, but this is only my opinion, but I was able to look at the same time with the same microphone.

For the rest I fully agree with the opinion of scarabeo.

OVERALL OPINION

I tried several tube preamp before he bought it, and it is really better than many other brand more known.

From high-end price, Exellent!

I don't regret having bought it. I also thought about buying an UA LA-610 or the compact Eldax rack processor (very good...).

Wonderful sound. This device emphasizes every source signal. It sounds round but the tube effect is not overemphasized. The high frequency range is well-defined. It's awesome!

The tube sound comes from the quality of the circuitry and the output transformer (Cinemag) rather than the tubes themselves. The unit uses only two tubes but makes the most of them. Not like a 610 or a TL Audio that don't sound like tube.

If you're serious about tube sound, buy it... It's a really good product.
