Crane Song debuts at AES this weekend its second 500 Series module, the Syren tube preamp.
Syren uses a dual triode circuit with a 12AX7 valve, and its two gain stages can generate overdrive. Crane Song explains that the color of the sound changes according to the feedback modification at the second stage of the circuit: with negative feedback the frequency response is wider and without, the sound is more open and warmer.
The 500 format module features a switchable Hi-Z input, a low-cut filter at 90Hz with 24dB/octave slope and a –15 / –25dB pad.
Syren will be available in December 2013 or January 2014. You’ll find more info at www.cranesong.com/SYREN.html.
