Asus N61JV, Intel Core i3-350M (2.26 GHz), 8GB DDR3 1066MHz Corsair, Seagate<span style="position: absolute;"></span><span style="position: absolute;"></span> Momentum XT 500GB hybrid - 7200/mn (4GB SSD) and Nvidia Geforce GT 320M 1GB GDDR3 dedicated. USB 2 and USB 3.
OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit with the latest updates.
DAW: Cubase 6.5.4
Also Asus 22 inch screen connected via VGA.
Used old sound card: M-Audio Firewire 410

Upon opening the box I was delighted to have acquired. This card appears robust in its manufacture. Knobs, buttons & PAD 48v, input combo jack outputs do not move. In addition to the map in one rack unit are:
USB cable with a ferrite ring to ask yourself.
Transformer for 12v supply.
Small rubber pads to stick if you want to put the card on a table.
The manual.
Driver CD and a DVD with Cubase AI6 license number.
UTILIZATION
I download on the site the latest version of Steinberg 64 bit driver and installed it. A single file that installs the driver for the sound card and the software suite to use the DSP effects. Nothing easier, you double click, it is lulled by the recurring questions Windows and hop it's over, no need to reboot. I connect the sound card to a USB 2 port, a little time for the last step (driver recognition, USB port and sound card) and now it works ... (no more than 3 minutes).
GETTING STARTED
I hasten to open Cubase and check latency settings:
At 48000 Hz:
64 samples, In 4.479 ms 5.479ms and out. Super good!
192 samples, 8.146 In ms and 9.146 ms out. Playable.
I leave Cubase 192 samples and opens a major project in VST (East West Play with 8 instruments, 2x Kontact 4 samples with orchestra and piano bank, EZ drummer, 2x Korg Wavestation synth, arturia CS-80 and Minimoog M-tron, plugins EQ, 4x guitar simulators, simulator 1 Low, sliced consoles and electronic reverb TC M30, audio tracks, sub-group, automation ...) Some more than 3.5 GB of RAM used Cubase for this project. Read the processor is used about 50% done and peaks at 65% maximum (check the Windows Task Manager).
To my great surprise and fear, Cubase VST Performance panics and will even turn the LED indicating an overload of the processor, but no hum in monitors! I place the playhead at a time or arrangement is apocalyptic, and, and, and, and, nothing ... no noise no parasite plock, creuuuu, Buzzzz nothing but the music ... Here I am CONTENT.
I did a little test 88200Hz
At least 128 samples (can not go below) in 4.195 ms 5.195 ms and 5 out audio tracks (two microphones in front of a hp Engl 212, POD pro stereo and guitar live) To live guitar j ' I used a simulation and simulator Lepou LE456 v1.0 Lecab in insert to accompany me EZ Drummer Metal Machine Expension. VST performance panics but remains at about 40%, against no latency between the different sources of my guitar (I use a morley Aice canadaBC that allows me to send the guitar signal to three sources ENGL, POD PRO Guitar and direct) and still no noise. The card provides without moving.
I also plugged the sound card to the USB port 3, the results are identical.
OVERALL OPINION
I was looking first and foremost for a powerful sound card, which manages latency well, I hesitated a long time between the UR824 and RME card. But I ended up choosing the UR824 with the idea of returning if I encountered significant problems with latency. But I am very happy over my computer has only i3 2.26 Gz, I imagined I would need an i7!
I have to perform other tests, as the most important for me, check if the card really can record 24 tracks (8 inputs of the sound card in most 2x8 ADAT). The test will be carried out soon with a Yamaha 01V96 and another device. I will publish this opinion. See you soon.
