« Classic sounds, in software? »
Published on 11/02/11 at 00:03I've wanted a mini-moog since they were 1st produced. This was an innexpensive way to enjoy a moog. An optional midi keyboard is a must for real playing. The sound reproduction is outstanding. Very intuitive interface. One needs to use a light and careful touch to make adjustments to the control knobs as the interface is small and the slightest motion makes large adjustments. . Information is somewhat sparse and for the novice, appears incomplete. The second reason for the lowered rating was the need to purchase a USB dongle to use the software on multiple machines. The license must be transferred back and forth via the USB dongle, which I find inconvenient. The user manual did not indicate this was needed or how to use it. For the relatively high price of the software the dongle should have been included. The online user forum isn't very helpful. One post indicated the software is a CPU hog. I use 2ghz Intel Core Duo processor laptop with 2gb of RAM. I haven't had any problems and can run several other application simultaneously. Loads of presets are provided making it easy to get the sounds you want. The user manual threw me for a loop though, it was very long and hard to understand. After spending an untold fortune on soft synths, I've found the centerpiece to my ensemble. Arturia's done an excellent job recreating the Moog sound. In addition, the modulation matrix allows you to create all sorts of twisted sounds. Tons of other features I can't even begin to list. Overall, a great product and I highly recommend it for some one looking for that classic moog sound that has been around for ages! This will give that just the software version which is really all you need with the way everything is done a computer now. If you want the actual moog you can still purchase on of those as well, but this will make you happier in the long run unless you collect vintage gear.
