Clean sounding monitors

ADAM Audio A7XPublished on 01/09/13 at 20:35
The ADAM Audio A7X is a powered monitor that is not only affordable but it has a great sound. You can do just about anything with these monitors from mixing and mastering to listening and creating with them. Each separate driver on these monitors has its own control, on the front of the monitor there is a power switch and a volume knob. On the back of them there are controls for high frequencies and filters for low frequencies. You can use these monitors with RCA cables or XLR cables.

SOUNDS

I first heard about the A7X when I was in Guitar Center just looking around, I started looking the section where the monitors where and heard these. I was not there to buy monitors at the time but there was no doubt that these stuck out to me. About two weeks later, I went back and purchased them.

OVERALL OPINION

The sound is very flat, and they are perfect for mixing and mastering. The only complaint that I would have with them is that the bass is not thick enough for me. To everyone else they may be perfect but I like to have more bass in my monitors (even when mixing). But that is not the big of a deal because I have not heard many studio monitors that have a good bass response without having a sub hooked up.
These monitors are affordable and sound great right out of the box on all types of music. They have slanted corners on both sides to help with reflections making them great for near field monitoring applications. The tweeter is 50W and the mid woofer is 11W. I have been using these monitors on different projects since the winter of 2010 and they still sound great and look brand new. ADAM also offers great protection plans and warranties for a great price.

I worked with at a friend's, the tweeter is demonic ...

SOUNDS

The curve is fairly neutral, maybe a slight lack in the lower midrange or it's my hearing who can also play. The bass is fairly accurate and true, really do not hesitate to adjust slightly upwards. I left Yamaha HS80 M or I used to mix in the bass, with adam, this is the day and night, it took me back to my marks. Stereo image very good, you just bother to mix well. These speakers have great potential not necessarily simple to operate. But when it sounds ... it's on a big mac system.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 6 months, and after a slight adjustment period, it is a marvel. Value for very good price, this is an excellent intermediary between an entry-level and "pro" stuff.
In fact, for the moment, I really do not see the necessity to pay more. These speakers are small gems.

Unbeatable value for money, I use this one for the studio mixing, sound design and music creation.

Its main support I have not been disappointed! After more than two years of use.

SOUNDS

The frequency curve is sufficiently neutral?
The stereo image is good?
The sound is clear and precise on the spectrum?
The dynamics are respected? ...

I answered yes to each of these questions, the advantage is that two additional settings at the rear allows for better management of the space in which we work.

OVERALL OPINION

I would do this choice without hesitation! …

ADAMs A7 & A7X: the evolution of a legend

The predecessor to the A7X, the A7, became the most famous of all ADAM monitors in a very short time. Not only has it been reviewed over three dozen times with outstanding results, it has also received numerous awards. The A7 quickly gained mass appeal, praised in many of the world’s largest internet forums. Still today, the A7 are the reference monitors in many smaller studios.

With the A7X, ADAM Audio proudly presents the evolution of a legend. It takes everything that made the A7 such an outstanding speaker to a new level.

Driver technology

The first aspect that distinguishes the old from the new model is theX-ART tweeter. The ‘X’ stands for ‘eXtended frequency response’ and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has a higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.

The perfect integration with the lower frequencies has been achieved with a newly designed 7” midwoofer. It has been redesigned with a much bigger voice coil (1.5”) and is driven by an amplifier with twice the power compared to its predecessor. This combination produces an amazing sound and pressure levels with an almost distortion-free musical reproduction.

Amplifiers / controls

Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier. A 50W A/B amp is responsible for the X-ART tweeter, while the midwoofer is being driven by a 100W PWM amp. The front panel includes a power switch and a control for the volume that retains the volume setting independently from the on/off switch.

On the rear panel are several additional controls: a gain for the high frequencies (± 4dB) and two shelf filters for high and low frequencies.
To ensure greater compatibility, there are both XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced) connectors.
