I was already on the ass when I rediscovered my mixes via Summing Vintage Design. But the day I heard the sound coming out of the Neve 8816 and I was able to confirm it in working condition I am still not returned.
Sound:
Vintage Design for both the sound is very neutral and clean ... roughly accurate. But then the Neve him while being very faithful brings incredible sound mix. The mix sounds really, stronger, more dynamic sound is fine now. That said, the difference between Vintage and Design has the Neve Neve transformer at each exit on the 8816 ... So the sound ... So yes there is no EQ and no preamp which also contributed to the final sound. But I note that although we speak here of the mix and not the outlet. for taking a Chandler TG2 and I also Neve 8803 (I use also mix)
Functions:
I would say the most with his magnificently Neve functions are thought to the mix and mastering. First one that I most immediately: There is a button to the right of the masteur, which controls the width of the stereo and move from a mono signal to a stereo signal very (to the ear s 'is but a phase correlator and necessary) beyond the sound changes dramatically and there is a sense of really controlled the final mix. What surprised me is that I have less anti Neve phase since the same by pushing the red button on the stereo thoroughly. I have no explanation but what matters is that it's better. No?

You win a lot of time and the interface is better on PC Handbook, edited what we could find on the big consoles, but neve in SSL. In any case a good choice for the quality / useful / money.
SOUNDS
As I tell Certainties of you by email. Not considering any such purchase if your audio is not good. Really ... I think having the right cable (and only for 8816, 600 euros and the minimum expected), good converters and compressors good and everything that revolves around a summer kindly approach the 12,000 euros. What I want you to understand is that if your audio is not consistent to have a summer Neve would solve your little mixes. The price is not higher is probably true but it does not say as I have heard that it is a NEVE rack at a discount.
The Neve 8816 sounds really vraimement functions are well thought out and it is easy to imagine to build around a rack EQ, compressor and preamp to build a console tailored to their needs.
It will never replace a "real" such as the Neve Genesis (to stay in range size and the same level) and those for X reasons, but which seems rather hollow.
To return to the purchase of the Neve 8816, remember to analyze your needs and your way of working.
OVERALL OPINION
NOTE:
I know quite a number of studio that currently owns large Neve and SSL console and have purchased more NEVE 8816. WARNING I'm not saying that their console replaced by the small 8816!
I have not spoken of Cue and Solo, Mute incredible precision pan (even at the time of recall) and faders.
Please note the 8816 is very heavy and quite warm.
I think I'll keep a few tens of years. Probably my best purchase since my Genelec 1037 and my UA2192.
Buy your eyes closed is the top in this price range (at least better than SPL, Dangerous Music, Vintage Design)
Perfect for composers, studio small and mobile side. For the major studios Little GENESIS will be economically more profitable (even if it is 40.000euros without options).
For Mastering yes actually because the functions are adapted super ... But more to mastering a personal home or for a small project or self-Broadcast prod. The REAL studio mastering (with real mastering equipment) not only make the Neve 8816.
