Peavey Unity 300

Peavey Unity Series 300 RQ (Reference Quality). Rackmount Model not to my knowledge, but it is still exactly 6U in height. I have attached a plate 6U, and I put my portable recorder next to it.

Each track has a 2-band EQ (high / low), a dosage of two effects loops (FOR), a volume and a pan (which allows a track to the right or left of the tape).

The four mono tracks offer a preamp and phantom power supply (low noise). The console also allows the setting of two post-fader returns and line input. 2 volumes of output: one for the main output and one for the headphone output. The output level is indicated on scale double diodes (stereo).

Warning: the volumes are adjusted by knobs and faders for non!

The power supply is internal, connection provided by cable.

UTILIZATION

Simple config in that intuitively and with minimal knowledge can be any cables and have a good record. It really is the console to start small while preserving opportunities for development. Entries can still be diverted from their primary function (which is only indicative). We regret the absence of a medium setting in the EQ of the tracks.

The manual is very simplistic. It provides lines of work, but do not actually develop the usefulness of some features of the console.

SOUNDS

Its level, and although it returns just the one we sent! Personally, I only use the EQ just to preserve his treaty ahead of each instrument (so I can not say if the EQ is effective or not, I'd have to test anyway lol). I have trouble with the bass (like many I think) who tend to bang my recordings ... But no more breath than elsewhere. The effects loops are also very useful to add noise gate or other device sounds.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 7 or 8 years. A small dose, when I need to register. I like the opportunity to spend 8 tracks (4 stereo + 4 mono) to ... 17! (4 mono, 4 stereo = 8 mono inputs, 2 stereo returns = 4 mono inputs, stereo line). I like his simple but appropriate aesthetics, it's metal, it is robust!

I do not like the absence of faders, or the tiny size of portards preamp on mono inputs 4. I wish also an upgrade kit Rack ... But hey, we can not have everything!

This is my first console. I had the opportunity to try a 4 track analog recorder Yamaha. I have no regrets. I record to MD in line out, it does. But it's still the "live" and if a track is not tape, you plant the recording. Still, it's also handy for the sound on stage ...

I can not remember the price, but it was an entry-level product. Yes I would do this choice.
