The Apple Power Mac G5 is a desktop computer, suitable for your DAW or other high processing power needing applications. The studio I work at actually has a number of rooms on site, and we've got this computer in one of the smaller producer's suites. Our has dual 3.0 Ghz processor and 8 GB of RAM, but this will definitely vary from computer to computer. This type of more is definitely enough to handle large Pro Tools sessions, as I've rarely had any problems with crashes on this machine. We're running version 8.0 of Pro Tools on this system, which is a Pro Tools HD rig. Not too much recording goes on in this room beyond two or three tracks at a time, but the computer would definitely be able to handle much more than this if needed. I do tend to run a good amount of plug-ins in my sessions and it's been stable for me. This isn't the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer in terms of their desktop computers, but it's still a very effective machine. I think it would be just fine for your main rig as well, but of course there's a lot quicker systems out there now that have been put out since the Power Mac G5 was issued. If you can find one of these used for a reasonable price, it should be some pretty good bang for your buck since these are now a bit outdated. When it comes to Apple computers, a few years doesn't make that much of a different (at least to me) since they put out newer systems very often. Nonetheless, the Apple Power Mac G5 is a very powerful machine capable of handling very high demanding work...
