Genz-Benz GBE 750

Transistor amplifier with two channels, everything has been said. It is not mine but I use it every week since November. I think 750 watts shown are a little light at the same time it's rare to need as much power. I play between a quarter and half of the volume for répets and concert hall with the average 4 * 10 of the same brand in 8ohms (150 people and sometimes fifteen zicos, resumed in PA).
The DI is good. No need to take a microphone.

UTILIZATION

So I use mostly channel transistor which I find clearer, I think we can push a little lamp (on the other channel) to arrive at a small overdrive but I do not need. It still did not render a real tube amp or a good overdrive pedal.
We get a good sound very easy, all the knobs in the center, "low frequency boost" enabled. Maybe a little too much treble settings with the buttons in the center but the correct notched his very efficiently and accurately.
I have never seen the manual, it may be useful to adjust the gain and the "volume gain" in addition to the master (this is a bit far fetched, but not really a problem). There may be a few too many buttons for me but there is really no need to adjust much.

SOUNDS

The sound is very good, you can get just about everything, its a standard round or so of banging. Head transcribes well the character of the bass: I play a Fender Precision and a Cort B5, every time I'm amazed by the sound that comes out and it compliments me. I take my Cort midrange for a Musicman (I exaggerate a bit anyway
This is not a sound "fat" but precise and dynamic. Attention, I'm not saying it sounds Acute provided. It's going very well for rock, funk, blues ...

OVERALL OPINION

I am very pleased with this amp, my low fare magnified even if really does not color the signal. Other bass players play on, and Stingray Bass and really stand out.
However I recommend to use the pad for active basses (unless you really boost the EQ on the bass), it does not reduce only the volume, it also makes it less attractive.
For just over € 1000, I think it's a great amp, it really is not given for a set with 4 * 10 but I find it much better than the Ampeg and Markbass (the SVT 3, BR2. ..). It reminds me a lot Phil Jones but with more potatoes. It makes me want to invest in the brand, perhaps with the Shuttle series, I saw that there was a new combo with HP 12 '(the 6.2), can be more portable and accessible to the budget level.

SOUNDS

I think we can all play with this head.
I use it with my group of scne funk / rock and a cot for other hip hop soul plan.
If you want to play like the big tool or pantera, it awaits you.
I am among those who think the sound is in the fingers so with such stuff.
I coupled this with a head Ampeg SVT 410 HLF pregnant.
I play on a Marcus Miller I just modified my virtual assets that silent and a rotten frettles fender custom shop. Ms. trs to play jazz is good this head will do.
I do not play too much but I slap a heavy sound good Dfine too much slamming of large mdium trs. To highlight the maximum ghost notes.
I think with a 5 or 6 strings especially with the ampeg bass must be seen that enormous oats dj pretty with a simple 4.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 6 months. To see the time I bought this head because it Genz Benz made a big clearance sale so the price quality ratio is about it.
To compare I almost bought an ampeg svt 3 pro home. Maybe that's silent hottest it's hard to remember but the 750 Gbe dlivre too too much variation on his cot to go.
Trs is hard to find the stuff but if you take a look is worth a couple dtour I think the ampeg trs is good.

Tube amplifier, 750 watt. 2 preamps, one transistor, the other tube. Speakon connector for hp, with output effects loop, preamp output, output balance. Knobs to boost the bass, midrange and treble. A footswitch selects the preamp used (transistor, lamp, or mix), and activate the boosters. Two floors of comprehensive Equalisers (one for each preamp): low, medium low, medium, high and medium high. And one nice thing: it runs on 4, 8 or 2 ohms: very practical!

UTILIZATION

Configuration is very simple and very rich at the same time. According to the preamp used (transistor, lamp, or mix), and adjusted, we get very different sounds. And with the footswich, we can use this as an effect. Ex: there's a basic rule with the preamp transistor (its very clean), and is added when you want the tube preamp (gain in depth and volume low, focusing on one or a few frequencies of choice) to make the sound more wild and / or "vintage" (saturation of lamps). The knobs are very reactive, we must learn to use it, but it's easily the mug you want. By putting everything to 0, I have a very good sound, then there is no more than refine. The manual is clear, it explains everything you need on the intricacies of the animal (eg diodes that can well adjust the gain ...).

SOUNDS

The head is generally very bright, very defined sound. it can play both jazz funk that: is any. That's me over at first. Then, by boosting the bass, you get a reggae-dub sound without worry. Can vibrate the whole house if you want to have fun throwing the neighbors.

This head is one of the most versatile I've tried. The power amp is very neutral, it really restores the sound of the instrument. Then we play is different preamp to color the whole.

Third advantage is its power. it sends really heavy, and I never had to push very hard head, even with ten other musicians on stage. it can always keep a margin Groose, so its always a set in all frequencies.

Finally, the extras is the two-stage preamp. In addition to the wealth of settings that it allows (a very clean and neutral with the transistor, the hottest and wild with the lamps, depending on how they are pushed), using the tube preamp that can activate the effect at the foot is really great. it allows a slight saturation or violent really interesting. The boost to the foot of the subs is not bad too ...

I play this amp with a fretted bass (bass luthier type jazz bass 1973), a fretless (musicman stingray 81), and a bass. In any case, I get the sound I want. The sound "acoustic" is really great, very rich in harmonics, and sounds more rock, reggae and funk work really well too.

After this is of course a matter of taste: it was not the same sound that modern ampeg (personally I much prefer this one, much more varied and no less powerful), and certainly not the same sound that an old amp of 70 years. But it sounds really good, no problem.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for two years. I tried a lot of amps before that, and after that too. I'm quite a fan of old tube amps (I also play on this kind of amps, depending on the sound I want), and for me any modern amp does sound particularly good vintage, not even the head-Genz benz. on the other hand, of all modern amps I tried (including the big ampeg, mesa, orange ...), it is this mind that I prefer (especially for this price range), for its neutrality, its versatility, power, and the little subtleties that I mentioned. Value for money unbeatable for me. And it's tough!
