Published on 09/26/04 at 15:00I bought this guitar at a San Antonio Sam Ash retailer. The tag read $339.99; taxes included, the final price was somehwere in the range of $380 (I can't remember the exact price - it was awhile back!).
This is just a great guitar. From the top down: The Floyd Rose locking mechanisms allow bends to unimaginable lengths. Combine that with the tremolo and you can get sounds reminiscent of Joe Satriani, especially combined with the pickups. The H/S/H configuration gives you the edge and sensitivity of single coil with the warm smoothness of Psnd-1 humbuckers. I combined those with some nice, crunchy distortion and got a little chill in my spine. The intonation is great. I've played Fender for a long time, but somehow I never hit quite as many harmonics as with this guitar. That implies that the pickups are a tad too sensitive, but you'll quickly fall into the groove with the surprisingly hot single coil. The neck has great action. I'm an advocate of a lot of action, but solidity is a good thing occasionally, and this guitar is a very satisfying medium. I haven't had to retune the guitar for two years -- although the strings play a big part there (D'Addario extra lights) -- even as much as I crush the whammy bar.
One more note on the pickups: This guitar delivers awesome overdrive/distortion tone. Clean tone is a little twangy, even with the treble knob all the way down. Amp equalization can fix this, but it can become inconvenient if you're switching between tones throughout a song.
For my tastes, the tone knob doesn't do NEARLY enough to change that twangy, edgy lead sound into smooth rhythm, although you can use the 5-way switch to tone shift. On rare occasions, the high action on the bridge can be distracting. Also, although this hasn't happened to me yet, I've heard of problems with the input jack. Be very careful to use shielded cords, too, 'cause using that single coil, a lot of distortion, and a good bit of volume will give you some nasty buzz.
(on scales of 1-10)
Body: 10
Neck: 8
Headstock, locking mech., etc.: 9
Bridge: 10
Electronics: 8
Price: 8 (at $340, what a bargain!)
Overall: 9
In conclusion, it's a really great guitar, for anything from classroom teaching to large scale gigs. Choose your amplifier carefully, depending on the tone you want. I use a Peavey brain hooked up to two 26-inch enclosure speakers, and the sound is great. In addition, Peavey offers a damping switch that lowers the channel output by 25 decibels, so I've got a luxury afforded me there. I give this guitar a 5, outright: it's served me faithfully for two years, and it won't be long before I get another.

I dont like the colour that much, but since I desesperatedly wanted an Ibanez I basically had no choice. And everytime you try to tune this guitar the rest strings loose its tune result of the not so elaborated Floyd Rose tremolo bridge so its very enoing to tune it, it takes like more than 5 minutes everytime. plus you have to cut the ball-end of the strgings and thas a problem you wont find in any other higher series of ibanez. but you get used to it.
Average. At first look it seems like a good quality guitar but in a closer view you will see that this guitar is only AVERAGE, far from perfetc and away from very good. but it will last long if you take care of it until you save money and buy a better one. (that's what im doing) the finish is ok but the knobs and the rest of the circuitry is just average.
good one for starter metal kids, and good if you wanted an Ibanez RG and you want something better in the future. Good for gigs altough.

Right now there is nothing I don't like about the guitar. One thing is that the pickups tend to buzz a little but it is no problem(unless you are a picky little brat) and it can be easily solved.
this guitar is very durable. The construction is great I haven't had a problem with it in the time that I have had it. the guitar is very sturdy and can take a beating. this guitar would last you a long time.
It's good for amateurs or professionals (though professionals got them expensive guitars I'd probably never touch)... It's not the best at clarity if you look for the CLEANEST sound, but on the bright side, it's also not the worst - Not even close. It's good for beginners because It's comfortable, compactable, and with special care, it will last for a long time. I mean, I put this guitar through hell and it sounds awesome. Just to imagine someone who uses it with no abuse, even better? So basically, you can play slow, or go all out, and get the same results. It also has 24 frits so you can get all the sounds you want. The guitar is still small when it has 24 frits, which makes it easier and faster to reach the notes. Ibanez always seems to have a good feel by the way their neck is constructed...It's Good to feel the music, Right? If an instrument frustrates you cause of the lack of good construction, of course someone is not going to like playing it. Like a piano with scratched, jagged ivory that feels like sandpaper. This guitar won't do that to you, the feel is just perfect! I thought that it would break in two years or i needed to do some operation on it. It turns out that the guitar will last for 20 more years, like the Explorer I talked about in the beginning. Don't misjudge it until you've played it, okay?

Published on 12/29/02 at 15:00I bought my RG 270 from Musicians Friend Website. I got it for $200 on the dot and it came with a stand and a gig bag FREE. I said what a deal and I begged my mom to help me pay for it.
It is easy for me to keep it in tune, probably because of the things it has at the top of the neck that is tightend so the strings wont get loose.
The stings on it are a little slim but I got used to it.
It has nice construction with sleek designs.
This is a great beginner guitar, someone who is serious about playing but still has to learn more of the basics.

The guitar's quality is excellent. The powersound pickups are great, the materials, like the metal tone and volume knobs are very good, ibanez did not go cheap on these parts. Only the choise of the wood could be better, 'cause you can feal and hear that the wood is a little cheap.
This is simply a great guitar. You can play every style on it from bleus to metal, from jazz to progressive rock. This guitar can handle every style. So i will always use Ibanez guitars!

I threw my guitar twice in frustration and for fun... It STILL plays perfectly like it did before... And the neck is really thin (And has 24 frits.) Plus it has a lot of pickups that make me look rich (though they sound good and has that vintage sound to it.) It also doesn't have those complicated knobs that'll screw up your equilizer settings when you touch them. Plus it gives you more sticker space, eh?? Ibanez guitars seem to give a nice feel when you play the notes as well... But back to the pickups. The pickups align well (straight) and you get a lot of selections of clarity with the toggle switch... 5 switches. It's because of the two Double-Coils and single. The back has panels so you can fix anything you need instead of the annoying pickguard that you have to take out in the front. Which this doesn't have :D
I tried to "pull a Kirk Hammet" back in the day... Which I pulled my bridge out as far as I could... #1, My whole guitar really went out of tune, and I KNOW that other bridges that won't do that as bad as mine. #2, the screw that held the wammy bar ALWAYS came out loose when I'd use it. And #3, the bridge doesn't move as smooth as a Floyd Rose bridge.... Wait, I don't know if it's the same thing!?.... Let me look.... Oh it is haha... Well, the EXPENSIVE ones anyway. haha... Everything to me is A-OK. It seems the only the bridge tends to make problems. I mean, I got the nut where it connects to the bridge loose while my wammy bar was still in there... And i couldn't take it out unless i used a wrench.
Like I said, I threw the thing and my guitar may have a lot of dents and all but the thing plays fine! A few stickers covered it up and all. Though the shape seems simple, (Like all them Fender guitars... Damn, they all look the same) it has that SOME kind of rebellion against the simple shape by the sharp cutaways. It's also thin and light so it doesn't kill your shoulder when jamming for 20 minutes... Like a *NORMAL* Dream Theater song! But anyway, it lasts for a long time, the input jack hasn't died out on me like a lot of guitars I know, It has easy access into fixing the wiring, and most of all, most people sit down when they play, it has a perfect groove for that. Though most guitars do, not Explorers though!
It's good for amateurs or professionals (though professionals got them expensive guitars I'd probably never touch)... It's not the best at clarity if you look for the CLEANEST sound, but on the bright side, it's also not the worst - Not even close. The distortion you can get from this guitar is great for getting that "chunky" sound for today's rock. I'm also able to get pretty much buzz free clean tones when using the humbuckers.
My major complaint with this guitar and it could just be my tastes, but I hate the Floyd Rose Tremolo setup. If you play a variety of music that requires you to change tunings frequently I encourage you to avoid this guitar. Once you get it in tune it stays there quite nicely but if you have to switch from standard tuning to Drop D, or something else, it's a serious pain. It takes me about ten minutes to do so. It's near impossible to tune it to drop C because the Floyd Rose system will drastically fall in order to keep the tension and the strings will rattle like crazy against the frets and there will be no sustain.
I have owned this used guitar for a couple of months and so far I have been satisfied with the construction. I did have to get deeper screws for the strap because they kept getting loose, but I feel this is the mistake of someone who did not no what they were doing and screwed a hole to deep when they put in the strap lock system. The cap to the switch also fell off, but that was easily placed back on. I kept the strings on for about 2-3 months and I didn't break any strings, so maybe that is a good sign to come. The finish is average.
I love the sound and playability of this guitar, but the Floyd Rose Tremolo System just drives me crazy because of the time consuming tuning. I reccomend this guitar for beginners or those looking for a cheap second, third, fourth, etc. guitar. Remember that this is a Korean made guitar, so don't expect it to last forever. You may have problems when the neck begins to warp.

Overall this guitar is great for the price I paid. If anything is wrong it can be easiily fixed. It feels great to play and sounds good this is a quality instrument. but you can't choose what guitar you want from reading reviews from retards like me you gotta go out and try the guitar yourself.

I think that the jumbo frets are a big advantage this guitar has over others. Although sometimes it is a stretch to play them but I would rather to stretch my fingers a bit than squeezing them when I get to the 20th fret.

The guitar sounds excellent distorted, a really fat sound, truly remarkable. It has a very heavy bass sound. It's great for me because I love that sound but if you don't like it you can easily adjust it. I also love the fact that I will never have to tune this guitar ever again in my life because of its Floyd rose single lock (even if changing the strings is a real pain).
The one thing that really bothers me are the pickups for two main reasons: One, they buzz. Two, even though they give that great, fat distortion, the clean sound is pretty rough and if I think about it, it doesn't sound very clean either.
There is also a really small thing that annoys me. the input jack keeps coming loose but that might be just a one guitar kind of problem.
As I described before, it has a Floyd rose single locking trem, 24 jumbo frets that are very comfortable to play and an H/S/H pickup configuration. I am not a big expert but I would definitely say that this is a good quality guitar. Although, I think I would trade my great sounding distortion for cleaner pickups.
The bottom line is that this is a very good guitar.I think that a beginner as well as an intermediate player would enjoy this guitar a great deal.If you need a clearer, cleaner sound then I would say you shouldn't commit yourself with the Ibanez RG270.

there really isnt that much that i dont like about the guitar. every problem there is can be adjusted. the pickups are over sensitive and if you crank the guitar theyll buzz alill. so i turn my amps distortion on and volume up.then i turn the guitar volume down untill the buzz stops but the distortion is still there. if im playing clean i turn the distortion/overdrive switch on the amp off and adjust the volume till theres a clean undistorted tone. all the problems ive heard other people say are easily fixed. the only thing i really dont like about it is the input jack. ive had to fix it 2 times allready and ive owned the guitar for about 10 months now.
the guitar is well made except the input jack. ive never had to tune it but once, and i havent changed the strings yet. i think its allmost about time to change the strings. my model is jewel blue. its an amazing looking guitar. the single locking floyd rose trem is stable and the neck plays beautifuly. its a rock solid guitar.
ive played better guitars but ive played many worse. for the money id recomend it to anyone. if i was asked if this guitar was a begginer / intermediate / expert guitar id say intermediate. ive played her on stage and it rocks.

SOUNDS
This particular guitar features 24 frets with two humbuckers and one single will pick up in the middle between the two humbucker pick ups. This is a pretty versatile guitar as far as the pick up come because you have any variance of different pick ups located throughout the body of the guitar. So with the two humbucker pickups and the single coil pickup you can get some great versatile tones depending on how you select your pick ups. You also get a Floyd Rose bridge which gives you the ability to squeal off some nice tremolo octave pitching.
The tone is guitar is not that great of the tone but it does provide the user a great playable guitar for a very inexpensive price. The neck is very fluid and smooth and very comfortable to the touch. It makes it very easy to play chords and single note racing for soloing on this guitar. It's a very overall fun guitar to play because of its comfort ability and just perfect balance. I see perfect balance because it's very balanced towards hard rock and metal but not extremely balanced towards medium to low rock music or pop music. This is the kind guitar a hard rock or someone he's learning how to play the guitar because it's such an easy guitar play.
These guitars working pretty much any amplifier setting whether it's a clean amplifier I get amplifier. However, I would suggest that the best way this guitar sound would be through a high gain amp such as a marshal amplifier or a Mesa boogie amplifier or anything in that kind of range. These guitars really excels when you get a lot of distortion behind them and really pushing good feel and drive in the tone.
OVERALL OPINION
These guitars I have been discontinued now for a while but you can find the on the used section or in the classifieds fairly easy. I've seen them hover and go a ride around the range of $200 which is an exceptional price for a great sounding an playable guitar. I had a recommend this to anyone is looking for a good shredder guitar or someone is looking to pick up the guitar for the first time at a budget price.See less00Abnormis

On my RG-470, the microphones are worth far V7 and microphones that have a clear sound amazing.
Ibanez annoying little trick on this type, in a double clear sounds saturate and it is ugly.
OVERALL OPINION
Frankly Ibanez makes great guitars but then pay much more than 1000 francs and buy the RG470 is a must for my part of the RG series for a great value for money.

The floyd is pourrave desire to pull even with a standard AC is 2 hours before returning to the tuning or AC then never come back: the big black spot on this guitar in my opinion.
2nd largest black spot for me: the quality of the metal frets: it sounds stupid but they wear out super speeds, it is that I really dug the frets and the coup bah, ca fret, even with a good setting (the problem may be resolved by then ibanez).
UTILIZATION
The neck is super cool, very fast to play for those who love the sleeves flat with easy access to acute hyper. I would personally would a bit wider with an ebony fingerboard (oue ok jfait choosy). But there is surely no better handle a guitar of this price.
weight is quite heavy in the thick body, but it ensures good sound, in the end it's not annoying and much lighter than a les paul (at least an epiphone)
regarding his right to obtain UIN: no problem the pots are of good quality but yet the settings are weaklings but sure of classical guitars in this price:
-> The first half of the race Knob volume is almost to nothing (the empty ds: yay utility)
-> Knob the lack of medium tone (not sure how to say chai AC otherwise): the addition of a capacity to solve a problem can, but we play almost never below 3 / 4 of the race.
However it is very easy to get something that sounds and settings remain effective.
SOUNDS
Well then I explain the sound with TB4, PCQ original bridge pickup was not worth it: it lacks color, harmonics potato: a brief drawn => TB4 with nothing to do it right away a more violent and more hot (this microphone goes very well with this guitar) with a grain much more enjoyable.
The neck pickup it is not bad at all, we come to get bluesy stuff, it also goes very well for solo parts cool.
Finally the middle microphone allows for a sound with a lower output gain, start type, and here too, its very correct, it is well suited for low saturations.
I played with a Marshall Valvestate 100W, bah c nickel and ultra versatile (must yavoir millions of people with a RG270 and a VS100: not original but effective).
I get to play all styles (blues, metal, rock) with that, but hey I still bought a strat beside to play good old rock PCQ the rg270 lacks a little personality styles more expressive (but ibanez are similar to 3000 euros on that side).
Coiuplé an old cry baby thunder it works (watch the output gain of the RG is anyway top balèze to cry then turn down the volume a bit)
OVERALL OPINION
Used for 7 years is always a good scratch agree that both beginners and experienced musicians can fortunate (a change is needed to bridge pickup all the same, tinkering with electronics pti). She always met LOTS and jme say that to see the difference in the same style of guitar (if we exclude the floyd which sucks and frets that wear out too quickly) will really have to type in the high end. What I prefer is the sustain, but I saw other RG270 who had much less: so be careful.
I had time to try other models and this one really stand out in the price range - from 3000 francs which I had set myself).
In short a great guitar very versatile, it has too much personality but hey ..... AC is an ibanez
Great value for money (to buy there OCCAZ, ca vau not kick-nine per cons buy ca and c such that for all guitars)
Basically if it over again, I would make the same choice but with a hand model (which will not have worn the frets: p).See less00Kmo
