Clarett-2Pre: input level questions

I am a newbie to miking a guitar cab.

I recently purchased a Clarett2Pre. I am able to directly plugin the guitar into input1 in instrument mode and hear the monitors quite well.

Next I tried miking the cab. I am using input1 in INSTR mode. I able to listen to the cab, but the levels are pretty low. Is it required that I raise the amp volume pretty good to get a decent level into the sound card?

I am using an SM57 dynamic so not turning on the 48V.
