1 Using Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 to record off the internet browser
The Focusrite saffire pro 40 is my only sound device, and my daw uses asio.
When I was recording audio off the web yesterday, I used the "loopback" routing preset to record the signal off the internet, and the DAW was telling me it was -33dB.

Can I assume that the signal strength coming from the IE browser really was that
low, or is there something about Focusrite that I don't know?

The software slider on the browser was 100%, and since I used ASIO, I'm not aware of
any type of gain-boost technique - you get what you get.

Any thoughts?

(I'm gonna reply to myself, in case anyone else wonders about this sort of thing).

I learned that the Windows Operating System accepts audio and sends it to the WDM driver first. So you need to make sure the volume level on the windows panel is where you want it (I put mine at 100%).

Then, after the audio leaves WDM, it goes to the DAW, where you might be using WDM or ASIO. From there on, you have control over the levels, so I learned to always be aware that the audio source (browser, CD player, etc.) always go through the
windows WDM first.
