Hello mates,
I've got the same usb performance mode problem it's always on mixing. And it's effecting my latency when I'm recording. I've tried on a laptop and modes were working fine but made problem on my desktop PC. I've got another sound card (creative blaster) for 5.1 sound system. Could that other sound card make problem? If you find a solution please tell me quick I will go crazy soon^icon_facepalm.gif

Hi guys,

With regards to this issue, it is small known problem specific to AMD chipsets, which I suspect you are both running.
We are working currently to resolve the issue, and this should be available very soon.
Until that time, please can you try connecting the Solo to a USB3.0 port instead of a USB2.0 port (this should mean you can change the performance mode), and/or install the previous driver which allows for Solo to be used, version 2.5.2, available here:

https://owncloud.focusrite.com/owncloud/public.php?service=files&t=9a6c22504e230c260f4734d99b041b61

As mentioned, we are close to resolving this issue, and you can always subscribe to our beta driver website in order to receive news on pre-release beta drivers:

http://beta.focusrite.com

Please let me know how you get on.
Best regards

Hello simon,
Your detection is so true. I use AMD Phenom II. I've tried the old driver you linked and it helped to drop my overall latency to 14.6 ms (buffer length 2).It was 24ms with the mixing mode on last driver.
So it's working better for now. I'm on watch for new driver.
Thanks for helping mate. Cheers!:bravo:

No problem, glad you're back up and working.

Thanks

Simon, are you anywhere near in finishing that driver?
I have the same issue, crackling noise which oscillates from bad to worse and I'm also on AMD Phenom processor. I bought the card yesterday and I'm having problems since then...
I would really appreciate some info about when I can expect that driver to be available.

Thanks a lot,

Goran

I've bought the Scarlett Solo 2 days ago and I'm experiencing the same Problems as LuckyDevl.
After plugging in I downloaded the actual drivers.
Can't switch the USB mode, which is not my main problem, but still annoying.

My main problem is the very awful crackling sound through the headphones ...
If I switch to direct monitoring everything works fine for the sound coming from my mic.
Only with sound coming from my PC via USB I get this crackling noise.
I also tried different USB ports and cable.

My system is Windows 7/64 Bit with an AMD Phenom II x6 CPU.

Will this issue with the crackling noise get patched soon?
Hopefully it will.

I can't work with an issue like this, because it limits the main functionality of this
device.

Hi Goran & Fips,

Sorry that you're both having problems with your Solos.
As above, please download and install the 2.5.2 version of the USB driver, this is known to work perfectly fine with AMD machines, if for some reason your issues continue, then it is not related to your machine being AMD and we can troubleshoot further (you may wish to email us for this so we can deal with your case more directly).

USB2.0 driver 2.5.2:

Hey,

thanks for the quick reply Simon.
Now everythings sounds cristal clear and very good, without crackling noises.
Also the Focustite Control Panel works fine. I'm really happy with the product now.
Thanks a lot :)

First it took me a few more tries to fix it.
It's important to completly deinstall the drivers and delete them.
If you know how, this is gonna be easy.

Here is a little tutorial, maybe it helps someone with the same problem.
{Pictures in spoiler}

+ First deinstall the Focusrite Software in Systempreferences > All Programs ...
+ Open your sound devices
+ Choose the Scarlett Solo and click on preferences/options

+ Again click on preferences/options

+ Then choose the tab drivers and click on deinstall

+ Check the checkbox which says if you want to delete your drivers and click OK

>>Now your drivers are fully deinstalled<<
+ Restart your PC
+ Install 2.5.2 drivers which Simon posted above and you're fine.

Hopefully this helps other people the easily get this fixed :)

Cheers,

Hi Simon Focusrite,

I`m using AMD W7. I had the same problem and solved it with the old drive.
When do you think the new v3 driver with the fix will be available?

Thanks!

Hi Cbas,

Thanks for the message, we are currently working hard with our USB drivers, but unfortunately I can't give you a specific date at this time.
If you have an AMD machine, you can currently use the 2.5.x driver with no issues, if you wish to use the 3.1.x driver (perhaps for its Pro Tools optimisations etc), then try using the Scarlett with a USB3.0 port instead of a USB 2.0 port.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I recently bought a Scarlett Solo and I'm experiencing the same problems, even with the 2.5.2 drivers, but the popping sound doesn't come that often like on the 3.x driver. I experienced these in Cubase, but on the other hand, the sound disappears sometimes in Ableton. Aren't there any solutions for this?

I bought this audio interface especially because some people recommended it to me as well as the Focusrite brand.

Hi Christian,

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues even with the 2.5.2. driver. The issue may be system related. Have you been able to Optimize your PC for Audio, and test for DPC Latency?

It may be worth submitting an email case here : https://us.focusrite.com/answerbase/contact so that we can look into additional troubleshooting.

If you prefer that I start a case for you, please PM me your email address.

Hi Simon,

So Finally I bought a PCI-e USB 3 card. Installed the v3.1 driver and no more crackling...but a new problem came up.
On Nuendo the ASIO Driver won´t sound. When I switch to the ASIO Directx Driver it works fine. I erased all the Registry inputs, re-installed the v3.1 and at first the ASIO driver worked, but the day after I had the same problem.
Any suggestions?

Also, when I try to change the latency (recording, balanced, mixing) it changes back to mixing.

Thanks,

Hi Cbas,

I understand that your PCI-e card is a USB 3.0 card, however please can you let me know how Nuendo reacts when using the 2.5.2 driver:

https://owncloud.focusrite.com/owncloud/public.php?service=files&t=9a6c22504e230c260f4734d99b041b61

Does Nuendo produce any errors on the screen? If so please screenshot them.
Do you get similar issues with another DAW (Reaper is good and free to evaluate: www.reaper.fm)

Please do let me know how you get on.

Hi Simon,

I was hoping to have a better performance after buying the USB 3 PCI-e Card, but even though the crackling dissapeared, all playback sounds stopped after some time on any software, even watching videos on youtube and a reboot was necessary each time. The Nuendo/ASIO Driver did the same thing. Another failure was that I wasn´t able to change from recording/mixing/playback on the focusrite panel.
Now I got back to using the v2.5 of the driver. It works perfect...on the USB 2 port. (I still got some problems with the v2.5 driver and the scarlett connected to the USB 3 port).
I really hope the new driver comes out soon and solves everything!

I have almost the same problem. My interface Scarlett Solo worked perfectly fine on old Core2Quad 9400 machine with Win 7 x64. Recently I've built a new system based on i5-4460 and MSI H97 Pc Mate motherboard and Windows 7 x64. When I use it with Reaper crackling occurs (but it's usable). The biggest problem is that I have to unplug the interface from usb if I want to make it to work after system restart. It's just basically not present in the system though the interface led stays on. When I pull the usb plug out and put it back again after one second it appears in the system. I've installed NEC USB 2.0 PCI card but the sound is horribly crackled (even on youtube) so I put it back into usb 3.0 port on the mainboard. Any advices for that?

When you say you're experiencing problems after a system restart, do you mean after waking your computer from sleep mode?
Please note that we do not currently support sleep mode because of the above issues. I would recommend disabling any sleep modes (although display sleep is fine). If you finish a session and are not going to use your computer for a period of time, it is good studio practice to fully shutdown your computer until the next session.

Hope the above is helpful.

Hello Simon,

You're doing a great job by providing technical assistance. Anyways I recently bought a scarlett solo. I own an hp pavilion g6. I tried everything but I can't get rid of the cracking noises. Even installed the 2.5 drivers. Apparently the direct monitoring seems to be working fine. Really hope you'll find a solution for this.

P.s I'm using windows 10.

Good morning,

For the Scarlett Solo to work on Windows 10, please uninstall the previous drivers you have installed.
Once finished, please install the following beta drivers as outlined in our Windows 10 compatibility article:

http://beta.focusrite.com/file.php?id=1196

To ensure that Windows as assigned the correct driver, please navigate to Control Panel -> Device Manager -> right-click on interface in Sound, Video & Game Controllers -> Properties -> Driver -> Driver version should list as 3.2.2

If the issues continue, please can you let me know if the noise is across all playback, so from iTunes/Youtube etc or just your DAW?

Please follow these steps (Windows 8 steps should be fine for Windows 10, although we are reviewing this currently):
https://global.focusrite.com/answerbase/optimising-your-pc-for-audio-on-windows-8

Have you tried another USB port? Some are internally hubbed and can cause issues. Please try each one and monitor the performance of the interface.

Please ensure you have disabled power saving mode for USB devices:

In the device manager (Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager), in the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, right click each USB Root Hub, choose Properties > Power Management and untick the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.

USB Power

If using a Laptop, it could also be worth checking the general power management of your computer:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
Set the Power Scheme to High Performance (if this setting is not available, click on Show additional plans first). Then click on Change plan settings. On the next page set both Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep to Never.

Power Options

Then click Change advanced power settings. In the window that opens make sure you have the following settings:
Hard disc > Turn off hard disk after > Setting (Minutes) = Never
Sleep > Sleep after > Setting (Minutes) = Never
USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Setting = Disabled
Display > Turn off display after > Setting (Minutes) = Never
Processor power management > Minimum processor state > Setting = 100%
Processor power management > Maximum processor state > Setting = 100%

Please note, not all options may be available.

It could also be worth checking for any available USB/Chipset driver updates for your motherboard, including the latest BIOS updates.

Let me know how you get on.

Simon Sir, you are underpaid. I bought a Scarlett Solo in Feb2 2015 and have been searching Google forever for a fix. Of course it worked in the Apple system back at the Guitar Center store. And on my brother-in-law's Intel system.
And I do have an AMD Phenom ll. Soooo, I removed the drivers that came with it, rebooted and installed the 2.5.2 and it's golden now.
Godspeed to you, my friend.
Cheers.
