SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I turn on an iMac (intel core duo) with your HD Internal 320GB and 4GB of ram ... To run this software it needs space and my "poor" 320 GB that are shared with the accounts of each family member (full of software and data) ... it feels a little cramped. I think a dedicated hard disk is required.

OVERALL OPINION

Apple Logic Express 9 is a solid piece of software. It worked great on my Quad Core computer and never crashed once. I have used Express 9 for about a year before leaving to go to Acid. But all Express 9 users will tell you that this software is great. When I first started using it was difficult for me because of the layout of the program, but once I picked up the manual and read through a few parts it was really clear to me how to do everything that I needed to know. I used Express 9 more for recording, it has a simple workflow for recording and its extremely quick.

Express 9 is a highly sought after piece of software and its expensive as well. There are a ton of other software's on the market that do the exact same thing as Express 9 and cost a lot cheaper. There is nothing special about this software that makes it worth that much more many than other software's.

OVERALL OPINION

On things that stands out with Express 9 is the power of the mixer and effects. I love the compression and options that come with it. The compression is something that a lot of software's don’t focus on any more. It seemed like Express 9 focused a lot on the mixing part of making great sounding music. I really appreciate the fact that you have full control over the compression and and tweak it just right and its quicker and easier in this software than it was in Fl Studio and Acid.


Overall Express 9 is a powerful piece of software, its well worth the money spent if you have the money to spend. I suggest downloading a trial version of it first to see how you like that layout of it and if you can see your self doing production , recording, or mixing with it.

Everything works perfectly with my FireStudio and the internal card. Logic and Mac manage multi interface without worries.
Big Manuel, but only the first 150 pages printed in a booklet, all 1200 pages of a document is formatted web. I put 10 if a printed manual was delivered more consistent.

I have an iMac 3.60 ghz quad i5, 12GB of RAM, sound card and Firestudio 500GB HDD.
In other words, it turns even with 25 tracks fully loaded with plugins not to mention mastering plugins and open mainstage behind again via Soundflower.
No crash, no slowdown. Even the salaries and running very bounces SPEED.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a few months.The program is comprehensive but simple to deal with and very ergonomic. No multiple sub menus or convoluted paths to find an option, even the menus are easy to manage, especially with the esc key mode arrangement.
I used a long time Cubase SX 1, 2 and 3 (but not much more ergonomic and regular crashes on Windows), Ardour on Linux (but much needs to be healthy in the often dirty and no MIDI) and therefore that Logic is the best of three in my opinion.
All operations are easy to make and there are lots of options without being useful gadget.
In my opinion with an iMac is the best choice Logic! (Ok sorry)

Apple's Logic Express 9 is not that much stripped down from the full fledged version. It runs rock solid. It does nothing terribly jumpy, and I have found that the feeling of crispness that one would come to expect from an Apple product is entirely present in Logic Express 9. What is very nice about it is the simple fact that I do not in any way feel inhibited by the graphical user interface of this digital audio workstation. Instead, I find that the workstation program is actually incredibly inspiring, with its clean cut lines and beautifully laid out menus. In the end, Logic Express 9 is honestly one of the smoothest programs that I have laid eyes on and used. And for many people who know less about audio production, I would advice giving these lesser programs a shot before overwhelming yourself with a plethora of features offered in the more expensive professional versions.

OVERALL OPINION

In the end, Logic Express 9 is a great program that comes with the bare essentials of Logic Pro 9. Many people may say that it is just a glorified version of Garage Band, but I find that there are several important additions to Logic Express 9 that make it worth its rather relatively cheap asking price.

The installation (as often on mac) is no problem. Everything is done to the software installs as quickly and as simply as possible. The general configuration is fairly simple, similar to other programs called sequencers (audio and MIDI interface, bit rate, sample rate ...)
No conflict if one of Cubase, I used a little at the time, which screwed up my Core Audio, so I do not think it comes from Logic, but you never know.

Most: the lack of resource requested by the application and management of the South extra.
