Pro Tools is one of the most well-known daw’s right now, it’s being used by many well-known performers and manufacturers.
It’s fairly complicated regarding the equipment that are build-in and the whole aspect of the software.
The manual of the program is quite clear and sufficient to get a nice understanding how to software works.
The general setup of the program takes a while, but except for that, it's basic and very straight-forwarding.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The software works very stable and Pro.
The gear configuration is well made and I haven't seen any bugs regarding the audio processing.
I been using it for a year now, and I gotta admit that the notation features, the great audio effects and midi are very handy regarding the mixing process and mastering.
Pro tools new engine has 48-bit fixed point arithmetic and the new compressors make a huge difference concerning the quality of sounds.


OVERALL OPINION

What I like most about it, It's the stability and the great interface provided by Avid.
It's one of the most expensive Daw's on the market right now, however if you own the money, you should try it out and enjoy the whole process regarding mixing and mastering.

Without a doubt, one of the most high-quality Daw's that I ever encountered and the precision and lack of bugs makes it even greater.

I tried many and many Daw's but Pro tools developed by Avid is something pretty new even now, the great build-in effects, those fancy compressors , high-quality reverbs, and many other features make Pro Tools stay on top.

After getting to know the program pretty in depth, I would make the same choice and order Pro Tools by Avid, simply because of it's stability, great interface, and those Pro features provided by it that make a huge difference in your mixing.

Configuration-sufficient for 10 pro tools home studio.
But I would increase the power of the ram and as fure.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it only for a month and this is my first Pro tools.Avant Cubase sx2 I was and I do not regret my investment in any way.

It's pretty simple. I had to download version 10 from the site of Avid because I bought a pack via Pro Tools Mbox Pro 3 + Upgrade PT9 with PT 10. Only the registration procedure at the site of Avid is a bit tricky. Otherwise RAS (I had already used the iLok).

The general configuration is easy?
No more complicated than any other DAW. It just lacks a little detail on optimizing CPU and you have to search on the net. Otherwise it's pretty simple and intuitive.

Have you encountered any incompatibilities?
No problem. Certified for Leo (10.7) all goes well. I have not encountered any problems with Mountain Lion (10.8) which is however not yet officially supported.

The manual is clear and sufficient?
That side is very comprehensive, rather well done and you can find everything that you want without being forced to read it from beginning to end.

MacBook Pro Core i7 - 16GB RAM - 256GB SSD - Mbox Pro 3

What are its performance?
In 24/96 and with over 28 tracks, 2 reverbs on the bus and a packet of EQ Available while it remains stable buffer of 128 samples. With the same type of session, Logic has dropped everything for a long time. Rather good in the end, despite the lack of 64bit.

The software runs he correctly on this configuration?
It is fluid and seamless. One can concentrate on the music and forget the computer.

This hardware + software is stable?
I use it several hours a day and it never crashed. More stable, it will be hard.

Quite efficient workflow modeled on the work with the hardware. Very handy for a classic studio work. It is very stable and editing audio is extremely effective.
A small flat in the absence of multi outs for virtual instruments such as BFD.

I am convinced. This pro is efficient and it can make music without the hassle of an environment Logic or Cubase stability problems ...

Used for 2/3 years
Before I worked on logic (4 and 5) until these nice gentlemen to send Apple PC users on the roses!
Then comes cubase SX (1-5): the functions you want in here with some (warp) I have to redo some taken as distorted sound files (very pro!), The sound of the catch is not the same as listening, etc. ...
To overcome this a ride on one studio: RAS but ergonomics does not suit me. The sound recordings of cubase do not sound at all like on Studio One: I found the harmonics, dynamics, ...
I keep on beating around the bush: 003 Rack + and PT8
Ben ... we understand that many studios are using it. A cut above most sincerely. PT9 then, no great change its level and PT 10 which I believe to be more open, a wider stereo and use the best side: gain clips etc. ...

The value for money: it costs about the same as Cubase and Logic. So go for it! I am a fan, and even for MIDI is to say

Quick installation with the pleasant surprise of being able to copy sound banks instruments AVID (xpand, structure ..) or you wish, which can be handy if you have a dedicated hard drive for sounds (it is always preferable, history to relieve the system to read and not lose your valuable banks in case of reformatting and / or change of OS).

No conflict on the horizon with RME cards and Steinberg fireface800 MR816CSX I had, however I struggled somewhat with a client to recognize an omni Hd Hd on a Native, Protools still stuck on "loading DAE ", until I decided to start a test with Asio ASIO4 All found on the web (Press N during the boot sequence of PT to get their hands on the audio engine). Protools open Asio in this way, simply return it in the playback engine and ask the driver to switch to the HD omni ... one last restart PT and WIN! HD omni was finally recognized systematically.

Version 10.0 was tested on two pc
Machine 1 10 Protools on windows 7 ultimate 64bit: equipped with an Intel Q6600, Asus P5Q CM, 8GB RAM, 3 HD WD Caviar Black 1TB Firewire Controller Card on Texas Instruments chipset and soundcard RME Steinberg MR816 CSX and firface800. The Stability is generally good, no crash is a lament and sessions from PT 8 and PT HD9 open perfectly.
Two Small flats anyway, concerning the error occurred on a session after a day's work: "Pro Tools WAS Unable to Auto Backup your session" (known issue since PT8) and permanent cracks in reading with interface and Steinberg were not due to any setting buffer but the pilot of my controller card that I had to switch to "legacy" in the Peripherals Manager of Windows. Machine 2: Protools HD10 (HD native) under Windows7 Ultimate 64bit, Intel 3.20GHz Core i7-3930K, CM ASUS P9X79 PRO, 16GB RAM, 1TB Caviar Black 3 HD and HD sound card omni. No concern for stability for weeks, apart from the problem of recognition of the omni HD for installation (see description above)

OVERALL OPINION

With two months back, I found this new version of Protools very good bill, faster than ever (special mention for the ability to load the entire session in the ram on native HD) and especially of stability I had known more about Pc since version 7.4.
The major new features are the channel strip from the Euphonix sytem5 (very practical and very little CPU intensive), audio (finally) in 32bit, and the fader gain direct access to each clip (region).
One can deplore the lack of true tonal correction tool (type melodyne) as found on Cubase, but developers are working on AIR maybe ...
Finally what about the updated firewire drivers calamitous Avid products (Digi002, 003, mbox) who are most often the cause stability problems encountered on the PC versions of Pro Tools ...
Anyway I do not regret buying this version 10 (not hd) after years of PT8 HD2 and 9, the power and stability are finally within reach native systems

Pro Tools 10 by Avid has out shined many other daws in my opinion and will continue to do so. After comparing Pro Tools 10 to Logic (which a lot of people tend to do because they say logic is its biggest competitor) I have come to realize that the layout of pro tools is a lot more complex than just Logics. Logics can just easily be figured out without any manuals or training. But with Pro Tools 10 by Avid, they layout is rather over whelming and confused me for a while even after being pretty good in Pro Tools 9 it just seemed like 10 was a completely different software. I have been using Pro tools over the years and they never really change too much just some small things here and there but with 10 I think they made some really good changes to functions and some small cosmetic changes.

Performance is very good on my mac, i have been upgraded to 10 since it first came out.

OVERALL OPINION

If you are just upgrading then you can get 10 for about 250 dollars, but if you are buying it brand new, good luck trying to get it for less than 700 bucks unless you can get the school or student edition. If you can really dig deep in to pro Tools 10 and it will take some time to do so, then you will really start to understand a lot more about mastering your music that you would have never knew in Logic or Cubase. Pro tools 10 gets you really deep into the process of editing audio and understand how to do so will take some time. I am self taught and it took me a while to get it down years ago. But its knowledge that is worth having because it will take your music to new heights and if you can become certified in Pro tools through a course you can actually really start earning some money editing some major projects for some companies. Pro tools 10 Rocks.

- Configuration of Pro Tools is pretty simple, if you take the time to read the manual, but must admit that the GUI is quite nice!

- What I like least is not Freeze, not 64bit, use of resources makes it difficult to see and export again in real time ...

- I tested, Logic Pro 9 Reaper 4, Ableton Live 8, Harrison 2 Mixbus and stuff ...
I shook my HM 2 for analog side and all that. If not in performance Reaper 4 is much better than Pro Tools 10.

- The quality / price is justified in half:

I use it for now for a week and I discover all
day new things without even opening the manual.
The only sequencers I've used so far are
consumer software that allows an approach to the computer music.
What I like most is that Pro Tools 10 is compared in French
to version 9.Il Plugins are galore.
I was also amazed by the instrument Xpand2 which has superb sound that will
well my keyboard CVP303 completed.
I think I'll invest in structure probably also because the videos on the net
are bluffing.
The value for money is excellent as purchased bundled with a mini map mbox
for cheaper than the software alone.

I made the leap from hardware to software with Pro Tools 9. Now in version 10. Associated with a mac mini, and a Fireface UFX card UAD2 satellite. Everything works great and I'm very happy.

OVERALL OPINION

The French language, it feels good even though at first we realize that we are really used to the English terms.

I use PT so very basic, and I certainly never use many functions. I love the interface that is clear and easy to understand. PT is my first app if I exclude those dedicated to the hardware.
I did not need a manual, I have not yet been a major concern.

I do not really know the difference with previous versions, except the language. Anyway, from 9 to 10, I work the same way and the software reacted the same way. My experience with Pro Tools and my being feels intense use can, I can not clarify further.

Avid finally went to downloads only for Pro Tools 10. Which is much preferable for me than waiting for a boxed package to arrive. Buy download, install, work! I like it.
Install and dongle update went without any issue.
For an Avid product the manual is actually comprehensive and easily enough digested.
The new features on Pro Tools 10 is what made me jump on an early version and it runs fairly stable to my surprise.
The stand outs for me are that Audio Suite plug-ins know can be frozen. I rather would've had track freeze but I will settle for this for now.
Also object based volume automation ala Samplitude/Sequoia. Which for some one like me that has spent many years in Smaplitude/Sequoia is a must. Unfortunately you need the Complete Production Tool Kit or HD system to convert object based automation into volume curves. Oh well...I don't think I want to spent another 2000 for that.
The other thing I'm missing that's part of the tool pack is that you can customize your system cache and various other settings for performance improvements.

It works as advertised. Still has some of the Avid/Digi Design oddball concepts I will never understand.
Like that short cuts aren't user definable. And worse what about commands that don't have short cuts. I will never understand that.
Finally Avid stopped claiming that none needs or wants the ability to record at 32 bit float. Guess after years of Steinberg doing it finally it was acceptable.
WHich raises a bit of an issue with backwards compatibility. But Avid actually took care of it. The file extensions are no longer .ptf they are now .ptx. And if you have a project that has 32 bit files you want to open in a prior version of Protools you need to save it as "earlier version Protools 7-9" where it converts those to 24 bit files.

OVERALL OPINION

I work in it, there is room for improvement. The 299 upgrade is IMO too high it should be 199.- but it is a necessary evil.

Installation is no problem. you just pay attention to the instrument air package that changes relative to version 8.
if not no problem.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I work on a PC assembled with a quad core processor intel q8600
with 4 gigabytes of RAM under Windows 7 with a sound card RME HAMMERFALL 9652 (I know she is older, but it's very good stuff), the configuration is stable and the performance are waiting for you.

Well, version 9 dj opened the way with open interfaces to third. Exit Digidesign, Avid is now.

- 32bit sessions
