If we want an overdrive very useful delicacy for warm overdrive and crunch sounds rather vintage, there is no problem we can buy eyes closed. For more aggressive overdrive, prvoir another pedal because ct has not be enough.
Cete pedal is part of my sound palette prfr blues, funky rhythmic crunch ect. A little expensive it's true (110E), relatively few can rglage, ds that rglages of Tone and volume are suitable only gain deserves to be used. But after all, the sound is very good and it is the principal.00romain27

SOUND QUALITY
This is a nice overdrive, less warm than 808 ts (and incidentally cheaper too), with a nice bump in the mids and tight bass that suddenly are reduced compared to the untreated. Works very well with guitars of course, but also keyboards (rhodes particular). It is very good for its driven gently, or upstream of a real distortion, at the time it used to change the eq for drilling during lead passages. We can blame him a simple tone instead of eq fuller, but it allows a large number of shades.
OVERALL OPINION
I kept some time before selling because it does not suit the band's sound in which I was (at the time I did not have my home studio or my personal projects otherwise I would have kept! ). Qualities may be its shortcomings, namely its sound will not suit all styles, even in the blues. This remains an excellent pedal, cheaper but less friendly than its predecessor, which must be done to get the best!See less70Stratocarmin

This gives a little crunch, just enough to get a blues sound without being rough (not replace it after touching anyway).
Coupled with an AC30 + compressor + a p'tite reverb, it gives you a sound that will prevent you from scratching your release for two hours. Mellow sound with sustain, vintage grain. No matter if you are on strat on both LP sound.

It's been 6 months since I played with a vintage and I still enjoy.
It allows me to have the additional crunch the AC30C2 (I does not fully gain on the clean channel for effects). It is almost always walking again.

SOUND QUALITY
This pedal has a pretty natural tone, sounds pretty similar to a real overdriven tube amp. There's a slight mid boost to it which helps cut through other instruments as well as filling out the tone a bit. With the gain high and volume around half it gives a natural overdriven tone, similar to Steve Ray sounds. With the gain at minimum to half and the volume maxed it works as a boost. Put in front of a tube amp it'll push the amp harder resulting in even more overdrive than just either by themselves. Most modern metal bands prefer to use one as a boost into a high gain amp. The mid boost again fills out the tone a little along with helping cut through the mix. It also helps tighten the low end which is crucial for faster music along with low tuned guitars.
OVERALL OPINION
I've owned a few of these over the years and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another if anything happened to this one. It's very solid built, looks and sounds great, and is a pedal that always stays in my chain regardless of what kind of music I'm playing. I'd recommend it to anyone playing jazz, blues, all the way to rock and metal.See less00MGR/Anonymous
Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer
Published on 08/08/03 at 15:00Picked this one up at Guitar Center in Boston a year ago (2002) for about $100.
Easy to use (only three knobs). Definitely a mellow overdrive and nothing more, however it is great at what it does. Throw it on while on your clean channel and it's sort of a fuzz, or overdrive your leads with some added sustain and attitude. It's nice at getting a sort of Slash-like tone on lead. Don't forget SRV though also.
The only thing i don't like is that it adds a little extra noise, especially when your on your distortion channel. The construction is perfectly good I'd say, but then again no guitar gear of mine has ever shit the bed so I don't have much to compare it to.
Bottom Line is try it out. See what you think. I personally think this pedal could be an asset on anyone's rig.

I love to play old rock and blues guitar, so I instantly fell in love with the pedal. It drives the amp really nicely, but doesn't distort it too much. I have other overdrive pedals (I'd been trying to resist the TS9 since lots of people rave about it; I guess I always have to be different) but the other overdrives I own tend to be more distortion than overdrive. SRV was supposedly really into the TS, and I can see why. The tone comes through really nicely. I play a US strat (white blonde) through a Tube 30 (cheap amp that is an excellent buy) and the TS9 sounds great through it. The pedal is really simple to use. It consists of 3 knobs: Overdrive, Tone, and Level. The overdrive adjust the amount of distortion, the tone knob adds the amount of desired bite, and the level knob controls the level of the distorted sound. All in all it's a great little pedal. I admit it, I'm a Stevie Ray Vaughabe, so the tone is great for me. It has that nice "Texas Flood" sound.
As far as dislikes go, I really can't think of any. I love the pedal and now my wife is upset with me because I have several pedals, but really only use the TS9. I guess I should have purchased the Tube Sreamer first.
The pedal is built to last. It's made of Zinc die cast construction, which means it's built like a brick $%@#house. It's green, which I'm not sure is good or bad, but the construction of the pedal is good quality.
The pedal is very nice. It's not quite the same sound as the old TS808, but it's really close. You can always modify it, or have it modified to 808 specs if you desire. For $99 dollars it's a great deal. If you like SRV and Clapton style of music, you really can't be without one of these pedals.

UTILIZATION
The pedal is built very sturdy, with a nice stomp plate switch exactly like the original 9 series from Ibanez. I have never heard any issues with quality control on these pedals like I have the cheaper 7 series that uses a different switch design. I wouldn’t worry about this one breaking on you. It’s a very straightforward layout and the knobs seem sturdy and hold your settings well. The housing and jacks are metal and seem like they would hold up to a good amount of abuse.
SOUND QUALITY
This pedal really does nothing for me in this department. It is one of the most copied pedals out there, if not THE most copied pedal and honestly some of the clones I’ve picked up does the sound much better. This pedal has a decent quality of drive, but the EQ section kills me. It does have a tone pot that allows for minimal tweaking but no matter how you turn it, there is a built in midrange hump to this pedal. It does allow the pedal to be used for a solo boost, and in that sense it does very well, but as a straight up overdrive it leaves a lot to be desired in my eyes (and ears).
OVERALL OPINION
Overall this pedal is built very well and should stand the test of time in the durability department. Unless you like a very midrange heavy overdrive or have an amp that is equalized to handle the pedal, I would only suggest using this pedal as a solo boost into an already overdriven tube amp. I feel this pedal is overpriced based on it’s name and the number of artists who have used it. I feel that there are several copies of this pedal that do it’s thing just as well or better for far less money. If I were looking for a Tubescreamer sound in mass produced pedal, I would urge you to take a look at other options like the far less expensive Bad Monkey by Digitech. This pedal is pretty much a tubescreamer with four knobs, including a two band eq. Separating the high and low end of the tone knob really allows the user to get a more detailed sound, makes the pedal more versatile, and it comes in at less than half the price of the TS-9. Overall the TS-9 is a decent pedal for a boost or a mid heavy overdrive, but there are just far better clones for less money.See less01royuth

Depending on rglage gain, you get a crunch from the muscles a nice warm overdrive.
The knob of the Tone is not to look pretty, it is feared
I use most of the time, the neck pickup with the potentiomtre Tone of the guitar 7 / 10.
The grain obtained is fabulous with either the bridge or neck pickup your exact is not aggressive. By combining a TS9 Tremolo lightweight, one raproche Vox amps of the '60s.
I use the following rglages on M-one to try to reproduce a Vox AC-30:
[1] Soft Tremolo
speed: 4.87 Hz; depth: 60%; fx level: 52%
[2] Room reverb
decay: 0.78; Predelay: 0, size: small, high cut: 2.51 kHz; hi color: 0; lo color: 0
Reflect lev: 0dB; reverb lev: 0dB; modulation: off; mod speed: 0, mod depth: 0; fx level: 18%
IDAL is the MODEL for Blues, Blues / Rock. If you are looking for a metal distortion, go your way.

Try it and adopt it. I heard this effect unit, there are 7 / 8 years old when I com o play the guitar, I think the c'tait TS5 MODEL therefore cheap. A force to try to reproduce with a TS9 POD2, I buy a DCID TS9 Reissue. Few months after the purchase, I changed the two Integrated Circuits and Resistors to reproduce the TS808. For more information on this operation you will see a page of my website dedicated the Tube Screamer (http://www.linux-france.org/article/web/egraffin/ts9.php). This then raises a second misunderstanding, that the price as a vintage model is trading, so, double the original price specified here.
Having said that, following the model for Vintage, sorry but there's no ad hoc item.
Tubescreamer, it is aptly named, a transistor amp, it sounds almost lamp on a Vox AC30, it becomes even more interesting. A true overdrive a rare finesse.

That said, if the TS9 indifferent to the metal with the addition of Korg in series, some might change their minds.

I own two, the oldest since she was released, around 80, I do not remember exactly. Strangely, it was originally, an integrated circuit type JRC2043DD (the first 200 000 were equipped with this circuit). Some swear by the JRC4558D, however, the sound of this version is just as interesting. For good measure, I soldered the 2043, I replaced an integrated circuit support, I bought a JRC4558D and I welded a support, it can compare the result with each circuit. The second comes from the 4558D, there is no difference between the two pedals equipped with the same circuit.
I tried a lot of pedals before this one and never really find what I wanted, when I plugged in, it was love at first sight.
A particular use is a trip with a TS9 + Boss CH1 Super Chorus, a small speaker sony amplifée and Start. No bulky and super sound.
sold between 200 and 250 € on average, not a chance. It is of course possible to modify a reissue but it must replace several components condos, resistors, and know how to handle the soldering iron. However, purists argue that it comes close and some 90% of the original model. It's like a test-bed for high-end HIFI!
I recently tried a reissue of the material quoted above is very different, it sounds more "synthetic" I did not like, for cons I've tried a modified reissue, the original circuit, 4 capacitors and one or two resistors have been replaced: it sounds rather like my original. This change is very popular in the States.See less10Anonymous
