It rocks as soon as you plug in: It boosts sound while adding definition in the high and low end. With my Tele AVRI 52 and the neck pickup or in the middle position, the ep booster really shapes sound and highlights everything I like, be it with the clean or the crunch channel of my Tubemseister.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought it to raise the volume during solos but, in the end, it's always active.
Given the sound quality, it's an excellent value for money, I would buy it again without hesitation.

No need to book in for me. there would be internal dipswitches with an effect on the outcome (!), but personally, I not see much use in my use, very basic.

SOUND QUALITY

Excellent sound reproduction.
I do not know how it feels but it goes the sound by adding the frequencies it takes to get out of the mix when solo significantly and music. This is exactly what I wanted to box, and it does masterfully.
Note that the beast has a hearty reserve dB more, more than I need anyway.

OVERALL OPINION

Used for a few weeks on my pedalboard, I was looking for a simple and musical booster.
I knew the Xotic RC Booster also that I thought I could use it in the context of a boost for solos but not enough for me nia, the RC will remain a buffer on my bp, or luxury, but not for solos.
I liked the simplicity of the EP Booster, immediate and without side headlock with a certain sound quality. To pierce the mix of the group at the right time, just press the right time on the switch, that's all!
Expensive for a booster, but Xotic is expensive on all its effects, I do not regret my money yet: like other Xotic in my possession, I think it will remain long on the pedalboard. It is an investment

SOUND QUALITY

Whether with or without shaking boost the sound is there. It is even magnify by this little box ... Hence a certain dilemma.
At first I not understand the interest of 3 db switch when the pedal is set to mini ... In the end it turns out great fun with this setting it seems to restore the body to clear, make it sing. And yet I play a Fender Vibrolux which is not bad in the register ...

OVERALL OPINION

Value for money at the rendezvous. For those who want a boost without too many gadgets but does the job with a light color that gives banana every time then go for it.
Too bad the mini switches are not in frontage (especially aspen following booster that used the guitar is very nice)

It is a clean boost small-scale, supply by battery or transformer 9 to 18v (I fed with a very good Burkey-in 18v power supply), negative center, classic anything.
Mine is white, limited edition of 1000 pieces.
Super strong, the pedal is, for its size, rather heavy, which reassures its strength. It is very stable.
The printed circuit board is clean and seems strong.

UTILIZATION

A knob for adjusting the intensity of the effect, a switch. By removing the front, unscrew 4 screws, it was access to two mini switches on / off: 3 db and treble boost, the effect seems limited (we say subtle to be nice ...).
Well, I have the screwdriver to gain access to these two settings, the price of the compactness of the pedal.

SOUND QUALITY

It's a great pedal, simply, I can compare it with the MXR micro amp, the clean boost DIY I last few years, I had the malmsteen dod, and probably others I have sold and zapped ...
Set to 1 1/3, it is very subtle, very nice as on clear, crunch or full. Beyond the set, I feel like pushing the power amp of my amp to 8: the sound is bigger (not more saturated, or very little), fuller, with more harmonics also without distorting . For those who know, there is a little feel of a JCM800 good time to 7 to master when guys premises repeats next ask you to come down ... "Yes, but it is the right sound ... but yes-you-drops stp ... ok ..." Compared to other clean boosts mentioned above, it is more gradual in the beginning of the race knob, and much more powerful at the end of the race.
Cà swells sound very musical way, quite simply, it is a real achievement for me. I play on a Soldano SP77 preamp or EVH head.

OVERALL OPINION

Just bought it, I used this effect (clean boost) that I like. It really is better than the models I mentioned. Super pedal. The only "fault", the mini switches inconvenient access, if RAS. Pedal-given not given, but great effect, although made, and the current high resale value very good Q / P for me.

Analog boost pedal.

UTILIZATION

General configuration and editing sounds is super simple: a switch, a knob. We may regret that the dip switches that are inside are difficult to access, personally, I found a setting that suits me and I did most affected (bass and bright it off).

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality is just excellent. I plug it between the guitar and the input of the amp. I start from a fairly steady crunch kind Deep Purple, AC / DC and am using this pedal to swell the sound of the amp (a Laney LC30), making it more bite, warmer, fuller and music.

Used in conjunction with my BB preamp the same brand, so I have 4 sounds directly accessible: not too bad a crunch, the crunch of the amp and the ep booster (very Blackmore) the crunch amp and bb preamp, and finally the crunch and activated both pedals together, which gives a very Van Halen, but with a signal / noise ratio really acceptable, very hot, with a lot of gain but still clear and defined.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 3 months now, and I do not ever get separated.
I owned a mxr micro amp, a Boss Ge-7, a lot of overdrives and distos, but nothing beats this little magic box that never want to disable.

For fans of Blackmore who would be scared by the number of treble booster available, although this pedal does not either, they really work very well if the assistant british crunch on a kind vintage Vox or Marshall.

The price / quality ratio is excellent, and I would do this choice with great pleasure.

UTILIZATION

Well extremely simple, one knob and one switch.
against by the builders took a nasty habit of doing internal dip switches ... especially for an equal bass / treble (I have the version with bass / treble and not with the last level / treble although ca surely must return to the same)!
while these two switches are very effective matcher with the guitar that is used ... dc not cool.
I'd be out a mod with 2 buttons on the box ...

SOUND QUALITY

Ben is the top! as expected after reading advice and test on the net. Better than the samples utube!
I just put my head entry Diezel Einstein 100w after distos pedals with 2 switches to ON.
I did not really want a boost of volume (in fx loop) but a gain boost that pushes a little crunch channel of Einstein and beautify my distos (guitar, MI NeoFuzz ​​audio, Mi Audio Blues Pro, Mi Audio Crunch Box BB Preamp) giving a more "back and thick." Ben is won!

The result with the gain at 9am EP:
- Clean in clarity and warmth, a fuller sound, more volume too round and slamming, resume settings bass / mid / TREB initial head to refine
- In crunch is divine crunch channel of my Eny (Texas fashion for those who know) also becomes more dense, furious. Need to lower the treble a bit to not find it too aggressive with the SG Ok but with the LP.
- In lead (channel 2) with the gain of the head at 9am, I have a lead blues again very dense, warm, slightly fuzz boost with the EP, which is a treat. Finally: I like to me at least ...
- With pedals in front, like: they are magnified by the EP which again gives a richer sound, dense and powerful. Brief heavy rock sound anything! Maybe the EP booster effect is less comfortable with the Neo Fuzz: I still need more testing and in my case it would put the dip switch on treble off with the brilliance of the head and in the guitar ... (On top of the switches ... harrr)

I will not say "to resume eyes closed" because we're talking about taste texture that everyone loves or not ... but good try imperatively mini.

super happy with the result in gain boost / texture. I would take without asking question.

Xotic's Ep booster is the brands effort to recreate the sound of the preamp in the old echoplex units, hence the "EP". Lots of old school guitarists would use this to get the warm recorded tones you heard on their records. The Ep Booster is a FET design capable of up to 20db of gain. The pedal has a pair of internal switches that toggle either unity gain or a bright switch function. The pedals's size is mind-boggling small for the sounds attainable. The aesthetics of the pedal are really sleek, I love the look of the black on silver with the blue led.


UTILIZATION

The Ep booster can be used both in front of an amp or in the loop to give the preamp section an extra kick. The compact size of the pedal it welcome, as it frees up real estate on my board for other, larger units. The controls consist of a very simple one knob layout for controlling the amount of gain added, however, the internal switches give you enough tone shaping tools to make the pedal worthwhile. Construction is as rugged as any other Xotic offering and I've never had the pedal die on me in a live setting. The EP booster runs on 9v power.


SOUND QUALITY

I played the Ep booster with a Mesa Stiletto Ace combo. Gibson Les Paul traditional with stock pickups.

In front of the amp, the pedal adds great sparkle and warmth to just about any existing sound you can compose. The bright switch matched the pedal fairly to my Dark, Mahogany Gibson. I was able to get some great breakup on the clean side of the Ace as well as a brilliance in the lead sounds of the tight gain mode. Placing the Ep booster in the loop really awakens the power section and makes the amp sound aggressive and percussive in ways i cannot get without it.


OVERALL OPINION

The Ep booster is a great pedal for achieving warmth and clarity in a mix. It is inexpensive, compact, and the simplicity of it's design echoes the no-nonsense attitude of the era the pedal is after. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed.

One-knob booster.

First of all, there's two dip switches inside the box, both "on" when you receive it :

The first gives you a 3db extra boost (among the 20db available) when it's on, and a "unity gain" when it's off
The second gives you a flat EQ when it's on, and a "vintage setting" (less treble) when it's off.

The truth is, in my case I just can't use it as a boost. There is no unity gain, the volume increase is way too huge, even with the knob at a minimum. That explains the 4, because I bought it for that exact purpose, get a slight boost for solos, and I absolutely can't use it that way.

I came to find out that it works well as a boost BEFORE the distortion/overdrive. In that case, the volume increase is less obvious, and gives more density and gain to your sound. Unfortunately I use only the clean channel on my 1-channel amp, so I can't use it that way either. Note that on a clean channel, the volume increases much more, can't tell you why.

So, in the end, I placed it after all my effects, just before the amp. I use it as an always-on effect. Its only purpose : get unity output between different guitars. You simply turn the knob up for a guitar with less output.


UTILIZATION

I just said it above, always on in my chain effect. It's one knob anyway so it couldn't be easier.

Speaking of the manual, it is simple and clear.

SOUND QUALITY

Oh my god. Once you put the Ep Booster on, you never want to put it off.

When you put it after all your effects, the Ep Booster has an overall effect on your sound that is incredible. It's lush and shimmering, very natural and non-invasive, it's still your tone.

That's Xotic quality.

OVERALL OPINION

Xotic made a huge mistake, in my humble opinion, calling this a boost. It's a great effect, but with the wrong name. They should have called it "enhancer - master volume" or something like that.

If you want a slight kick of whatever to cut through the mix, don't buy this. You'd not be happy with it.

But if you have several guitars and don't want to mess with your amp settings, this is the best thing you can get. Put it on forever and adjust the knob according to your guitars outputs. Plus it will enhance your overall sound, in the simpliest and best way possible.

This little box I have a big problem. Let me explain:
I was looking for a boost out of the mix on my solos. I already have the RC booster of the same brand but it improves my clean sound so I can not use boost.
So I acquired The EP booster and boost issue, it's perfect, it adds all Db needed.
But then I noticed that it adds a great addition to the OD sounds when you put before the EP!
So, here I am very annoyed because I wanted to use the boost pedal!

OVERALL OPINION

This is a recent purchase but I already knew about the PB another scratch. I would be an edit later according to my impressions. But there is not to be mistaken, it's very good.
I know a lot of boost and price / quality ratio I think this one is unbeatable.
Nine 115 EUR with shipping, I have not really complain.
I would do this choice with your eyes closed and as stated in an earlier opinion, it would take two, one before and one distortion in boost!
Besides, I'd think seriously about this event but I have a preamp pedal + boost happens. I hope I do not regret it!

OVERALL OPINION

- It is now 7-8 months I use a Mesa TA-15, and at the panel's nothing with this amp I can not complain, but after trying this pedal, I do not even conceive of not using it with.
- I did not try other kinds of pedals before buying, this one over on me, and I personally think any overdrive or distortion would have conquered time.
- If it interests you can find videos on the site who are very demonstrative Xotic. The fact that the likes of Joe Bonamassa (among others) use this pedal, it already shows the seriousness of the product.

This is an interesting volume boost pedal made by Xotic effects. It's not necessarily a clean boost perse as it is not simply a transparent clean boost like the RC. Rather it's based off the preamp of the famous echoplex. As a bunch of famous players have plugged into the echoplex as part of the guitar chain to acquiring that awesome 'tone'.

Pretty darn easy. Nothing but one knob if you don't count the two dip switches on the inside.

Just turn it on and turn the knob to what you'd like it to sound like!



SOUND QUALITY

This is a great piece of gear that sounds great! Most players I know that use it always have it on. Just like the original echoplex! It seems to add something to the signal that makes the guitar sound just overall sweeter.

The added EQ dip switches are great to compensate for any guitars or coil taps/splits that sound like they're lacking bass or maybe don't have enough presence. Of course the only problem with this is it's not tweakable in a live situation since it's on the inside and they're tiny dip switches. You'd have to preconfigure what you're doing to get this to work for you.

It's also a good boost just to compensate for the whole chain of effects that one might have and the long cable runs. I know a few players who use it this way as a buffer to bring back the guitar signal, it's especially helpful to have the treble boost dip switch for this situation.


OVERALL OPINION

What I like most about this pedal, I gotta admit, is not the sound, but the SIZE. It's TINY! I wish ALL pedals were made this size! Then nobody would have any problems with boards and pedals and trying to fit such ridiculously oversized pedals on ridiculously undersized boards!!

The sound is of course great. I can't say for sure if the tone circuit is exactly that of the older echoplex, I haven't played on in a very very long time. But what comes out of this pedal is very unique and very charismatic. With the added EQ features of the dip switches to help further shape the EQ is also an added bonus. I can see why EP users have this thing on ALL the time. It just sounds great, ALWAYS, and with everything!

Well this one isn't rocket science folks. It's a clean boost. There's one knob. It boosts your amp signal. Obviously this is a high quality pedal coming from Xotic. I have used a few of their pedals and never have trouble. Great stuff.

UTILIZATION

A lot of people seem to think this is just a regular clean boost but in reality it isn't. The circuitry, however small it may be is based on an old Echoplex preamp that Jimmy Paige used to use. To most people that won't matter. What it means in the real world is that while the EP booster does act as a regular clean gain booster, it also imparts a bit of its own sound. Xotic seems to be aware of this and they fully disclose that fact. They know it's not just another boost pedal. The expected downside to this is that if you don't like what the EP does to your sound, there's nothing you can do. Not tone knobs or any such of that nature. Hey...the footprint is small. Deal.

SOUND QUALITY

The EP booster in addition to being a solid clean boost, give your signal a kind a saturation and clarity too. This extra tone trickery isn't for everyone but most people tend to love it. I know a few guys who treat this as an always one pedal because they love what it does to their sound. Honestly I just use it for what it is...a boost. I like what it does to the tone in addition to that. It's a nice sound. Some people use these to match inputs with different guitars, which I guess makes sense.

OVERALL OPINION

If you want a genuine clean boost then look elsewhere. There's cheaper options. The EP booster to my ears is a sweeter boost pedal than most because of the extra tone improvements it brings to the table. A lot of people are disappointed with this pedal because they expect it to sound dry. This is not that pedal. It's more of a gamechanger really. Value is decent for what it does. The quality meets the price I think.
