Seymour Duncan STS-3 Quarter Pound Tele Set

I use these mics for a few months, and after some adjustments (height, the handle, etc.). I am very happy. Mounted on a Telecaster assembly by me, the quarter pound sound terribly well. You lose significantly from the Tele twang on the bridge pickup, which personally does not bother me more than that, and splitter, these microphones are a duo copy, giving a rebound to mid and lower midrange incredible if slapper .. . To say, it sounds better than my Stratocaster.
Purchased from the Germans, I have not tested other before, if not the original pickups in Fender, not very exciting ... In addition, they withstand high saturation (bridge pickup provides fully), are very versatile (the neck pickup sounds and jazzy), in short, a choice I would definitely do it again!

I installed a pair of microphones "Quarterpound" (STL3 + str3) 2 years ago to customize a TV special enough (mahogany body, maple neck).
Installation: RAS just know how to use a soldering iron and read the instructions supplied with the microphones.
Sound: we get something intermediate between micro "TV" classic and P90, but not unpleasant on low-medium as its "TV" normal. The big advantage of these mics (which have a high output for single coils) is the precision with distortion. Its clear we lose some of its "snapping" sound almost the TV. At least to seek his "bizarre" it is better to get a pair, they are made to work together ... I tried the mic "bridge" crush the mic "handle" of origin when they are used together, there is only one master volume.
If you do not play that saturated a good choice, the sound becomes less clear and typed "go anywhere" but they support much better saturation levels high. Caution is still not so big humbucker EMG and Di Marzio anyway!
The value, depending on where they are bought and the dollar is fair to good becaufe differences of 30% are not uncommon .... Shop around, sold in pairs they can be found at attractive prices. Note valid for all these microphones "not original" regardless of the brand.
The big problem when you get into these mods is that there is always the "little something" extra or missing and it is almost impossible to try before you buy! Personally I think I'll try something else, not that the result is bad but when you have a sound in the head ....

In fact, these microphones are very sensitive to the setting and electronics (!) Behind.
-Setting: do not settle for the maximum output level, ie closer to the strings, but to get the maximum rise gradually and then stop before the mid-bass are starting to being intrusive. The output level is in any case much higher than with standard Tele pickups, one must accept to lose a bit to get a response curve less "hunchback."
Capacitor-knobs and tone: it is essential potentiometer 250 k (or 220 k) and a capacitor of 47 nF. Or 50 nF (non-standard value) or 33 nF but the lower limit.
That way the sound becomes more "TV", a bit less aggressive in the treble anyway, and very friendly in all positions. The microphone "stick" can even be of a "jazzy" pretty amazing for this kind of micro, by varying the pitch of course, and other "sending" good solo blues - rock saturated. Defining clear that both saturated is excellent, no noise or spray of notes drooling!
Explanation of "scientific": a magnetic pickup, plus what's behind it, is a resonant RLC circuit. Bringing them closer to the maximum of the strings, and according to the values ​​of the components installed with (knobs and capacitor) circuit that is becoming more and more "selective" and its own resonant frequency becomes invasive.
