Impulse is said to deliver a neutral and broad-sounding mid-range, which is supposed to enhance the natural voice of the guitar without adding any offensive frequencies. Designed with low tuning in mind (which involves a limited output level to keep the sound clear enough), the Impulse is said to deliver a certain amount of low end compression to hold everything together with a degree of high end compression to keep the higher notes full. In the words of Josh Smith, “The lower register notes had to really pop out and remain clear and still sound thick, while the highs couldn’t be harsh; a balancing act that’s quite hard to achieve on a baritone, especially a 7 or 8”. Also, the first 200 players who buy an Impulse set will receive a free, limited edition, beer mat signed by Josh Smith himself.
