« Epiphone Les Paul Standard »
Published on 06/17/03 at 15:00Purchased new, off the rack, two years ago at a music store.
The Epi Les Paul Standard is a beauty to look at. There are several flavors and the one I chose gets compliments everywhere I take it.
It has the traditional fat, crunch and mellow tones that made the Les Paul a standard for blues and rock. I've never heard a Gibson Les Paul sound better.
Playability is as good as can be for any guitar with a bit of a fat, chunky neck.
I had to adjust my playing style slightly but had no problems making it sing.
It is well constructed, good electronic and hardware. I've notice some reviewers have complained about the Epi Les Pual having faulty toggle switches. What I learned was that the switches themselves are ok (though admittedly not the best). What sometimes happens is that packing dust sometimes gets in the toggle well and intermittently prevents contact when swithing the pickups. A can of aresol sprayed into my toggle well 2 years ago provided a permanent solution.
The lime green tuners are a little cheesy, more in appearance then functionality.
My other guitar has Grovers and it stays in tune better, but I'm not that much impressed by the difference. Anyway, what guitar player doesn't constantly fiddle with his tuners anyway?
Like all Pauls, the neck is a little beefy.
Construction and quality well above average for a production guitar.
A beautiful, well playing and sweet sounding production guitar. Much more guitar than you pay for.
