« Gibson Les Paul Standard »

Back in 1979, I purchased a new Les Paul Artist for $1200. I've seen that guitar sell for close to $2000 on E-Bay. Les Pauls keep their value. I recently purchased a new Desert Burst Les Paul Standard with the 50's neck from the Guitar Center for $1999.00.

I've been playing a Tele and Strat through a Fender Custom Vibrolux amp. I wanted the Les Paul for slide guitar work. I play a similar style to Derek Trucks and needed the Les Paul for that really fat, warm sound. It absolutely growls through the Vibrolux amp. The finish is gorgeous.

I think that the price was too high.

This Gibson is a really well-made solid, heavy guitar. The rosewood fretboard and inlays are very nice and the sound is big and warm. It is also very noise free compared to my Fenders. I love the new Desert Burst finish. It glows very nicely on the carved top of the guitar.

For a solid body guitar, this is a fine instrument and will serve it's purpose as a slide guitar for many years to come. Luckily, I can afford such a nice guitar, but many people cannot. It seems to me that Gibson could find a way to produce these Les Pauls in a way that maintains quality while at the same time makes them more affordable for the public. They would sell many more guitars that way.
