Gibson has unveiled its 2016 collection with 14 models of electric guitars, each of them available in Traditional and High Performance versions.
As you would expect, the electric guitar models from Gibson’s 2016 collection mostly revolve around variations on the brand’s ultra-classic Les Paul (7 models) and SG models (4), completed with one occurence each of the also iconic Firebird, Explorer and Flying V. These 14 models will each be declined in both Treditional and High Performance variations.
The Traditional (T) series models features the following:
- Historic heel
- TekToid nut
- Original neck width
- Vintage tuners
- Standard toggle switch
- Double-contact-point jack
- Traditional grade wood selection
- Acrylic inlays
- Traditional hard shell case (for some specific models only)
Designed as modernized versions of the brand’s historical, original models, the High Performance (HP) series offers the following features:
- Fast Access heel
- Adjustable titanium zero fret nut
- New soloist’s neck width
- Improved G FORCE tuners
- Smooth silent-action toggle switch
- New gold plated multi-contact jack
- Dip switch for over 150 rewiring options (Les Paul Studio 2016 HP and Les Paul Standard 2016 HP models only)
- Higher grade wood selection
- Genuine Mother of Pearl inlays
- Fortified aluminum case (for some specific models only)
As for the detail of the 14 models, they include:
- Les Paul CM: plain maple top, mahogany back, rounded 1-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, a single Classic '61 humbucker in the bridge position. MSRP: $699(T)/$1,049(HP).
- Les Paul Studio Faded: plain maple top, mahogany back, rounded 1-piece mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, two Burstbucker Pro humbuckers. MSRP: $799(T)/$1,149(HP).
- Les Paul ‘50s Tribute: plain maple top, mahogany back, rounded 1-piece mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, 490R and 498T humbuckers. MSRP: $899(T)/$1,249(HP).
- Les Paul ‘60s Tribute: maple top, mahogany back, slim taper 1-piece mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, two P-90 pickups. MSRP: $899(T)/$1,249(HP).
- Les Paul Studio: maple top, mahogany back, slim profile 1-piece mahogany neck with granadillo or rosewood fingerboard, 490R and 498T humbuckers. MSRP: $1,499(T)/$1,849(HP).
- Les Paul Traditional: maple top, mahogany back, traditional Les Paul 1-piece mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, two 57 Classic humbucking pickups. MSRP: $2,299(T)/$2,649(HP).
- Les Paul Standard: maple top, mahogany back, asymmetrical slim taper 1-piece mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, two Burstbucker Pro humbuckers. MSRP: $2,799(T)/$3,149(HP).
- SG Faded: mahogany body, rounded 1-piece mahogany neck with light rosewood fingerboard, 490R and 490T humbuckers. MSRP: $739(T)/$1,089(HP).
- SG Special: mahogany body, rounded 1-piece maple neck with light rosewood fingerboard, two mini-humbucker pickups. MSRP: $739(T)/$1,089(HP).
- SG Standard: mahogany body, rounded 1-piece mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, 490R and 498T humbuckers. MSRP: $1,199(T)/$1,549(HP).
- SG Standard P-90: mahogany body, rounded 1-piece mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, Two P-90 single coil pickups. MSRP: $1,199(T)/$1,549(HP).
- Firebird V: mahogany body, Firebird mahogany/walnut neck with dark rosewood fingerboard, Firebird mini-humbuckers. MSRP: $1,099(T)/$1,449(HP).
- Explorer: mahogany body, Explorer slim taper 1-piece mahogany neck with light rosewood fingerboard, 496R and 500T humbuckers. MSRP: $1,299(T)/$1,649(HP).
