The Keybass is a real bass guitar with a 34” scale, swamp ash body, maple neck, flamed maple fingerboard with 20 frets, Hipshot Ultralite Custom Lollipop tuners, one Nordstrand Bigsplit pickup, a Hipshot Ultralite bridge and passive tone and volume knobs.
Jonathan inserted into the lower part of the body a custom bass synth with three sections: a polypohonic digital section, a monophonic analog one and a 16-step sequencer, so that the instrument can cover a wide variety of sounds.
The bass signal is processed by the synth via cross-synthesis and it is possible to assign effects to the bass sounds from the keyboard.
The Keybass is currently a prototype but Jonathan Dauphinais is working on a production version.

macmike100New AFfiliatePosted on 07/05/2014 at 09:16:47What I'd like to see and I hope someone will manufacture some day, is a device for enhancing the bass played by left hand keyboard players on arranger keyboards. Something that double picks,modulates or generally makes a keyboard bass sound more like a real bass guitar.
I feel that a lot a work could be done in that direction. There is nothing I've seen that addresses that. I still prefer the manual keyboard keybass play to the awful automatic accompaniment that arranger keyboards produce.
This device in the video, however, is cool for bass players who play stringed bass.
