The new 'Jam Genius' iPhone app is designed to provide "a unique approach to improvising music."
It generates chord charts designed to make improvisation and collaboration easy and fun. Jam Genius can be used for informal jams, performances, and as a practice tool for players at just about any level of proficiency.
There are no melodies, just simple chord progressions that most guitarists, bass players, pianists, sax players, and other musicians will be able to play and improvise with. Jam Genius gives jam sessions a more 'composed’ feel, providing a platform for musical experimentation without getting in the way, the company says
Once a chart is generated, it can be read right from the application, emailed to fellow musicians as a PDF, or saved to the camera roll as a JPEG. There are well over 100,000 possible charts, and there will be even more with future updates.
Price and Availability:
Jam Genius is available now on the iTunes App Store. It’s compatible with any iPhone or iPod Touch running iPhone OS 3.1 or later. It’s priced at $1.99 USD and available worldwide in local currencies, in English only.
