MGR/Dr. A.'s review"Gibson Nighthawk Special"

Gibson Nighthawk Special
Purchased used for $850.00 Cnd. Discontinued in 1999. This is the two-pickup model from 1999.

This is the most versatile guitar I have owned. It can sound like a Strat or a Les Paul simply by using the five way switch. Very nice action although I've had to adjust the stress on when I went to light strings.

The hardware is goldplated which looks great but has a tendancy to tarnish. The Gibson looks tiny on my body, and comes with a not so sturdy case, but there's not much else to dislike.

Although small, the guitar is all Gibson including the quality. Nice ebony finish. I've only just bought it, only time will tell.

I don't know why they discontinued this model. It seems to be a real sleeper. I play blues and rock and this is an instrument that is quite versatile and looks great.

Gibson Nighthawk Special
I bought the guitar from 1st Floor Music for $500.

I liked the way i which you can get so many different sounds out of the guitar due to the 5-way switch and the coil tap. I also liked the shape and the gold hardware (machine heads, humbucker). Everything about this guitar is amazing!

!

the guitar is very well constructed. complete quality. the gold hardware and sleek finish makes the guitar look fantastic. it is pure quality.

i also believe that there are many other quality guitars on the market around the same price so look around. if you bought this guitar you would be a very happy chap!

Gibson Nighthawk Special
See specifications below.
Mine is 96, black.
Beauty

UTILIZATION

I was baffled by the handle pdt 5 minutes ... now it is the other guitars that I find funny!
Super ergonimie, ideal cut-back, a body heavy enough to sustain a beautiful but without breaking his back like a les paul ...

SOUNDS

Its very versatile ... basically it's going from jazz to extreme metal (m ^ I can be kind or reggae but these are styles that annoy me so I do not want to imagine my darling into the wrong hands .... brrrr ). The switch 5 positions allow experiments friendly. Great bass and MEDZ, clear treble sound clear. Disto ugly in the deposit! A beautiful temperament.

OVERALL OPINION

OCCAZ purchased from about 500 € (yes, really!). A revelation, made me want to explore lots of new musical genres.
In addition, its classic form, original in both I like a lot ..... foxy!

Gibson Nighthawk Special
This model made in United States of 94 I bought in 95. It is Heritage Cherry color with two humbucker pickups and split double / single round / single handle Single + bridge / bridge double / single bridge (just like on the picture!), 22 frets.
As throughout the series, the strings through the body at the bridge, which is very convenient to change the strings (not only for that matter!). A knob for volume, one for the tone, dial a five microphones positions. The handle is rounded but not too thick, can be a little too narrow at the nut.

UTILIZATION

The handle is nice but it may stick a bit after a while with perspiration, this is due to varnish Gibson (sensitive to sweat!). Access to acute is good, comparable to a Les Paul, but more difficult than Ibanez guitars as, for example. The weight of this guitar, coupled with refined size of the box and cutting back are still fun to play it for long periods. The only downside is the buckle side strap handle that is not a great location, beware of setbacks surprise!
I put 9 because of the varnish and the tie strap, otherwise the rest is all good.

SOUNDS

When the branch then there ... especially on a tube amp.
Personally, I have a little Peavey Classic 20 and I get big bluesy sound. In rehearsal it was a friend who plays it on a Fender Hot Rod, the sound is warm but still quite clear, the humbucker tone is warm resembles a lot of Les Paul, the microphone double easel is more aggressive and tends to saturate the amp clean channel. Intermediate positions are combinations of single coils and can do good rhythm (reggae, funk ...). Regarding the sustain, I would say "almost" we choose when to stop, the set neck and strings through the body are to many.

OVERALL OPINION

It is a rather versatile guitar but has a personality, it's not a Les Paul or a Strato and I would say the better. It's been 11 years that I have and I do not regret having the scratch buddies who have tried all have a positive opinion on it (and look). I have not paid much at the time (<5000F), less than a Les Paul studio that I was considering, making it an excellent price / quality ratio Gibson because the quality (wood finish) y is. Gibson stopped production of this model in 98, we must look in the second hand market to find one for a price that remains, for now, very reasonable.

Gibson Nighthawk Special
I have a studio, made in United States since ending for five years (damn, five!)
This is a 22 frets, two humbuckers and split, volume and tonality. It comes with the famous Gibson tui the indoor velvet fuchsia, good amricaine got the what (but I love it) ...
The handle has a classic Gibson, can be a little less heavy than a Les Paul.

UTILIZATION

The handle is comfortable trs, although totally inadequate to Go Steve Sunday.
CHAC in acute is correct, what is a Gibson ...
Its small footprint and lgret are assets idniables, I could not play standing up more than half an hour with a Les Paul (what a wimp!), Is the happiness ...

SOUNDS

The great strength of this scraper is its versatility (especially thanks to micro and split). I agree with the advice Previous, it does not sound like a Start or a Les Paul, but we want to be a little funky rhythm in his clear, or a greasy blues, or beat a little trash, there is always a rglage will ring. She has quite a personality and original brand, and in any case sounds good. I still have not found any use of micro acute simple (not shrill sound trs enjoyable), I'm probably not enough country ...

OVERALL OPINION

So like I said, five years we're together, I like its look, its lgret its versatility (it's now my only electric scraper) and sr good sound overall. I play in enough styles Varis (varitoche of the metal) and I always find one that suits me rglage. I tried astronomical amounts of guitar before buying it, I was particularly hsit with Lag Roxanne, but when Ms. Gibson throwing more :-) . I'd pay a little less than the 6000F era, I think I would do without this choice hsiter ...
