New v. 2.17 software update adds new features and ITU BS.1770–2 compliance to TC TouchMonitor TM7 and TM9.
In April 2011, ITU updated their BS.1770 broadcast standard to version 1770–2 that adds a clever gate to the standard, designed to ensure efficiency over a variety of both wide dynamic range and narrow dynamic range program material. Commercials and promos can be aligned – in terms of loudness – with e.g. film, drama and classical music. Now TC TouchMonitor TM7 and TM9 has become compliant with this new standard.
New Instruments TC Electronic says that measuring audio loudness in relation to international broadcast standards is a relatively new concept, and visually projecting the result of the measurements can be done in various ways, but classic VU Style metering is a new first on TC TouchMonitors. This vintage style metering is available in the new Moving Coil Instrument.
Also new to TM7 and TM9 is the LRA Instrument that displays the absolute Loudness Range while at the same time being able to choose between various types of center position – e.g. fixed or relative.

Apart from the above features, there are several other new features, instruments and improvements in software version 2.17. To get a complete overview, a Version History document can be found on TC Electronic’s website: tcelectronic.com/touchmonitor-support |
