That says it all! I regret its lightness makes it easy to move as soon as one pushes the cable that feeds it. Note that it comes with a battery (see the selling price, it is not a favor). Access to the battery is not very easy.
UTILIZATION
The manual is in French. Damage, but its usefulness is very limited. With three buttons, you get there without leaving St Cyr.
SOUND QUALITY
This is where you get the slap. I use either to boost slightly the amp, or with the gain in depth for a blues sound. The sound is to die for. You want to eat it. In boost mode, the sound is slightly compressed, with a hint of saturation. By pushing the grain gives a sound very hot (if not hot) with a very soft attack, but this. The agreements are nevertheless accurate in the sense that clearly hear every note and not a mush of sound. The 808 is especially relevant with a tube amp (hence the name tube screamer). I tried on a modeling amp, it's still beautiful, but less convincing. I use with a layer or an LP and it sounds the thunder! Ca severe crunch! Note that the amp and guitar are met. It's not a pedal that standardizes the sound.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for two months. I've used other distortion pedals (Boss Turbo Distortion and Bluesbreaker, Crunchtone Line 6), but none as good as the 808. In fact they do not have the same purpose: the more saturated Line 6, but works less well as a boost). None has a grain as pronounced as the 808. I tried it in a store, out of curiosity, I knew in the first seconds of listening I will go with. Since then, I let her go. For the value, there are two approaches. Either one considers that it must cost twenty euros to make, then it's too expensive, or you look at other pedals distortion / overdrive, which are null and cost over one hundred euros, the price is justified. If I do it again this choice? In your opinion?
