Throbak Overdrive Boost

This little unit is a very interesting take on classic overdrive with modern flexibility. If you are looking for something that will have vintage sounds and go all the way up to the fuzz distortion and even sizzling modern distortion then this is the pedal for you. It has so much versatility that is almost doesn't make sense how easily you can dial in tones from your favorite past rockers and new influences.

The mini switch allows you to tighten up the low end for using Les Pauls or other humbucking style guitars. Switch the knob to the right it adds germanium chips to give it some warm compression and fat fuzz overtones.

SOUND QUALITY

Try it with any guitar that tone gives you a very workable pallet to construct you lead and rhythm lines. You will hear distinct tones from old records and you can't help yourself play some riffs accordingly.

I like this pedal with any guitar. Use a single coil guitar like a Fender Stratocaster or a Telecaster and keep the switch to the left. You will get some sweet classic rock tones from the 60's and 70's. Slap a Les Paul in front of it and switch the mini toggle to the right, crank up the gain and you will get some good fuzz distortion.

OVERALL OPINION

This is an instant classic pedal for me. It reminds me of all the old records I hear from the classic rock station on the radio. It is a very nostalgic sounding pedal for me. I almost want to hear more classic rock music to inspire me to play this unit.

At new these pedals come in at around $260. Not too bad of a price but a little on the high side. if you are a fan of Jeff Beck or Marc Bolan then this is the pedal for you.

4 knobs (gain, bass, treble, volume)
A switch that allows you to oscillate between a fuzz-type 70 or a clean sound that can still saturates villain.
Two interupteur, the right activates the clean boots and the left engages the distortion in its entirety which still allows to vary the sound.

UTILIZATION

Must tweak a minimum to find its sound but for overdrive it has a range of sounds incredible.
The more I practice, the more I love it paired with a mxr carbon copy delay and it really gives her hell.
To me it just takes me to change my amp but that's another story lol.

SOUND QUALITY

Excellent clean boost, various saturations that make hard rock or the noise finally just blues, blues rock, my best pedal.
With still a sacred key 1970 ....
I love it.

OVERALL OPINION

I bled for me to get it but if I had to do I do it again without hesitation.
I highly recommend.

Pedal boost / overdrive replica of the famous fetish Colorsound PowerBoost Gilmour and Jeff Beck in the 70's, but with additional features that were lacking in the original model.
- A Master volume.
- A pair transistor / diode pair of silicon germanium is original (switchable)
- A circuit Pre Gain (+ footswitch LED)

Note: the circuit switched Germanium and Master, you can use the pedal as an attenuator and thus be able to put the volume of the amp for the tone block while playing in a room without disturbing the neighbors.

Impeccable quality, selected components, pedal signed and numbered on the back, use pots and manageable throughout their race.

5 year warranty, sent a few days from Michigan after a few exchanges of mail with Jon, very nice.

UTILIZATION

Very easy to use, with a mono input, output and power supply plug a standard 9V Boss type.
After reading the manual that came after (in English) gives some examples of typical setting, the use is very intuitive.

Only downside: it lacks the switch Silicon / Germanium marking to know what each position of the switch, but it's explained in the manual.

SOUND QUALITY

I used it with a Start and a Tele on two different amps, that's exactly what I expected even more, and yet I had high expectations!

I was in search of a "clean boost" inimitable we hear on the recordings of Pink Floyd Live in 77-79 years, particularly egregious in the solo part of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (clean boost), the Dogs (mild overdrive) and Have A Cigar (distortion / fuzz). With the neck pickup in the stratum is a treat.

This pedal does everything, it is extremely versatile both in terms of sound and distortion of grains and in terms of amount of gain and overdrive from clean boost to the fuzz, mainly thanks to improvements made by Throbak and switches and pregain additional, and at any volume level.

OVERALL OPINION

I did notice that since yesterday so to adjust over time but first impressions are valid for the quality of sound.
If I could keep only three pedals, it would be one for sure.

Before buying it I also had (and still have) a Big Muff, ProCo RAT 2 a and OVD-502 (copy of Maxon OD-808). The Throbak complements them well and could replace virtually all the clean boost function as a bonus.

This is the first time I put so much into a pedal but I do not really regret it a gem. After searching a long one occasion (I have not seen a single pass, and she left barely made the announcement), I decided to take a new one by adding the 40 euros that made the difference.
