Hughes & Kettner Tube RotospherePublished on 02/28/09 at 14:21
The Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere is rotary effect guitar pedal. As the name states, the pedal is Tube based and it has 1/4 inch connections. It is not rackable, as it a foot pedal and is powered by the power supply that comes with it. The pedal is bigger than most, but it is built like a brick and extremely sturdy.

UTILIZATION

The configuration of the pedal is pretty easy to follow. You've got knobs for drive and output, and another knob for rotor balance with each extreme being HF/LF, its kind of like a tone knob. There are then buttons for bypass, breaker, and to set how slow-fast you want the rotary to go. The end result is a sound similar to that of a Leslie speaker cabinet....…

There are then buttons for bypass, breaker, and to set how slow-fast you want the rotary to go. The end result is a sound similar to that of a Leslie speaker cabinet. The manual for this is well put together and is helpful when learning all the ins and outs of this pedal.

SOUND QUALITY

I sound quality of the rotary effect on the Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere is the best I have heard when it comes to pedals. It is rich and fat in tone and is an awesome emulator of a Leslie speaker. The tone is clear while the tubes provide for a warm, fat signal. It is easy to get a quick good signal from, and has a good amount of versatility. Overall, the sound quality of this pedal is awesome.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using the Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere for about a year and I have found it to be the best rotary guitar pedal out there. It is easy to get an awesome sound from it and the tubes provide a great deal of warmth and fullness. While this pedal is about double the price than the Boss RT-20 rotary ensemble, the sound is much better in my opinion, and I think the RT-20 sound pretty great! While the price will drive most away, this sound quality on this is worth it for professional players looking for an effect like this. Highly recommended to all interested in making your guitar sound like it is being run through a Leslie cabinet!

-3 Mcaniques footswitch (but not true bypass): bypass breaker, speed
A-jack Stereo for external control (nice for a rack intgration MIDI), commander of the bypass and the speed
-3 Controls: drive, output level and balance of the rotor

I do not put as 7, because-t certain options would be welcome (I will explain below)

UTILIZATION

The use could not be simpler: you plug in mono or Stereo, you choose the level of (personally, I use the effects loop, so online), we rule the knobs suit and go! The manual is absolutely nothing, and some diagrams of connections on the back of the box are quite sufficient, even for beginners in the world of effects.
As and use, there are still some options that end up sorely missed: Can not adjust the speeds of sparment bass and treble (corrected on the MK2), not rgler the speed of the effect on the flies like a cabin. The breaker is nice, but not a substitute for expression pedals. It's a shame it would with a t perfect.

SOUND QUALITY

Ah, that sound, gnial, period! A little under a real Leslie or a rack Dynacord, but still stunning. Nothing to do with the simulations that can be found on some multi-effects. Control of the drive can play on the saturation of the tube, giving interressants enough about the results according to the power of the attack. The balance control allows the rotor to support either the bass, or treble, but it has not moved the masses in 1 year, there is 2 hours, that-which seems the best compromise for my report-config.
No big diffrence on the level of: mode instrument, saturation is a bit lifted in line mode, see the sound sought-after.
The speed select switch gives a choice between slow and fast. Slow speed, it's almost a chorus, but what a chorus, a real bomb. In high speed, one approaches a little vibrato but not really non-plus. History of stay in the spirit of Leslie, the transition between slow and fast speed is gradual (yet happy), the image of the breaker which slows the speed gradually until the stop when the switch ( momentann the MK1, MK2 on permanent). The gnial little trick is that the blackout gives a random image: it ends where it is relative-position (virtual) of the rotor, and leaves of the same fawn when it releases the switch, making it difficult to repeat the same thing two times in the same fawn. Some will have as a default, because he is impossible to have the control, the machine is more or less-what she wants. But gives a cot living effect, was part of the charm of the pedals.

OVERALL OPINION

was 1 year I use it, and I'm not ready for me spare. This is not the kind of effect that is used all the time, can quickly become a drunk, but could ... it is effective. Address guitars as much as keyboards, big box that simulates a leslie more than adequate, without the inconvnients inhrents mcanique original. I intend to default remdier deficits above by modifying it, that-which is far from easy given the complexity of BCAN. Difficult to find comparative view of the limited existing competition. Submitted simulations on multi-effects I've experienced are very far from being able to compete.
Well, nearly 500 new, it's far from given, but it's worth it. On occasion, there is not really hsiter as it works wonders.
