Denon DJ DN-S1200

The Denon DN-S1200 is a CD and USB medial player and DJ Controller. It is a lot smaller in size than I was expecting it to be, which was not a good thing to me because the “platter” that is on it is very smaller. I have rather big hands and little platters are difficult for me to work with sometimes. There is a 4 way BPM counter and 3 different platter effects on this unit. The platter effects are Reverse, Brake and Dump. The pitch slider was very easy to work with and had a nice motion to it on the DN S1200 too.
Setting this interface/controller up was simple and the included manual has all information needed to get up and running quality. It was very simple to add music from different sources with this controller.
For the price of this unit, you will get a high quality product from Denon and great support from them. This unit is great for a beginner or intermediate user looking for something to work with in a small setting or smaller gig.
You can use an external USB keyboard and hook it up to this unit easily. The S1200 also supports CDR, CDRW, and CD Text disc. So basically any type of disk that I put into it worked just fine except for DVD storage disk, they just gave me a drive error. The four BPM functions are auto beat detection, manual BPM input, manual TAP and BPM read (from mp3 data, or WAV). The functions of this controller are great for this price range but with it being so small it really didn’t have a good “feel” for me to want to use it. I was not excited to start working on it for my gigs and that is how I knew that it was not for me. I used it for about 4 months before finding a different one. I would not purchase this again do to the platter being small and kind of “cheap”.

I used CDJ 800MK2 CDJ 350 before and

Most:
- The accuracy
- USB mode
- The strength of the material

Cons:
- The hybrid mode with traktor or VDJ is not practical if you have not enabled hybrid mix table


Conclusion: Very good value for money, very good to start mixing decks on a CD or USB without computer accuracy can stall without worry. Beug never very good reliability.
on the other hand, if you want to use software I advise for the same price (600th both decks) a controller or newer turntables with mapping done better.

Platinum professional quality (made for heavy use ...) Only used a few evenings after a DN4500 mode DVS alternately with VDJ and Traktor.
I really like: use with Traktor or VDJ, all fontionne natively, touch and sensitivity controls are nice, well graded and precise timing, pitch (buttons or platter).
I like: the size of the plate (this is important sometimes, it's the only deck of this size that offers this level of performance, see the photo added to the need for an evening on an existing board .. .), general ergonomics (buttons, menus ...), keys, effects, jog the plateau, the eject cd that is secured by the judgment of the plate.
The quality of the internal sound card which although less than what Pioneer's equivalent model, is quite correct in both usb with software. The are is punchy and round.
Use with any "starts faders" (Denon mixing desk and mandatory once the piece is wedged carefully!! Grrr see below) is reactive equivalent to what Pio: strength of the plate.

I'm embarrassed by (not to say I do not like, it's a matter of personal feeling and it does not diminish the side "pro" of the plate) the relative imprecision that is experienced in Sampler slot just the beginning of a song on CD or USB. Let me explain: when using a Pioneer CDJ 200 and DenonDNs1200 behind, we feel the difference. It should be more careful about this point, that's all.
Latency initially start / cue or VDJ by using traktor as I had with the 4500. The difference with Pioneer equipment is important on this point but it depends on the style of work.

Value for money good or very good (there are cheap occases in very good condition) who wants to switch to digital without changing the mix mixer. To use a CD or memory is better to spend 3700 or something ...
Sold quickly: I have not sold my Denon4500 for detomber incovénients with the same (you'll notice I did not say "defects" ...). No, but ...
To conclude and summarize: stuff of good quality but globatement a tone below the reference P. .. If you want to use it with traktor or vdj mainly go for it. Depending on the style or the frequency of use, these plates are a reference not to be neglected.
