"came up short"

Groove Tubes Soul-O 45Published on 11/08/11 at 23:18
I used the Groove Tubes Soul o 45 a couple of days ago and actually last night I returned it. Now please read this review knowing that I am not bashing this amp, I am just giving my honest opinion .

UTILIZATION

This amp comes with many built in presets which can be very helpful I’m guessing to a beginner. Personally myself I like to manually do these changes, or use a pedal. With this amp you can manually change a preset, but you have to start with a preset and then modify that, not just start from scratch (turning everything down minus the volume). This is the biggest and only flaw I saw when using this. I see how it can be helpful to those that do not want to make their own, or they......

With this amp you can manually change a preset, but you have to start with a preset and then modify that, not just start from scratch (turning everything down minus the volume). This is the biggest and only flaw I saw when using this. I see how it can be helpful to those that do not want to make their own, or they do not know how to make a preset but for anyone who has played guitar for more then a couple years, this will get annoying real fast.

SOUNDS

I learned this the hard way at a band practice and trying to get my amp semi ok to play. As far as the volume and other effect (I only used it like 2 days) it’s not bad. The sound is pretty loud and can keep up with a drum set no problem. The built in tuner is a pretty cool feature, not needed, but cool.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all if you are interested in just picking up a guitar and you don’t know much about effects or don’t have an effects pedal but want the sound, get this. If you are like me and want an amp that you’re in full control of, don’t pick this up. For your information I returned this and picked up the 100w Fender Frontman 212R, great choice. It is the same price but I like it a whole lot more! Check that one out first

Objective description:

45-watt all tube amp made in the USA with 6L6 power tubes plus 12AX7 preamp and FX loop tubes. But the amp also uses diode rectifiers (more reliable). The power stage can sport the following tube types: EL34, 6L6, 6550 (don't forget to set the bias). The combo is equipped with a custom Eminence speaker. It (obviously) has an impedance selector (4, 8, 16 ohms). And it has an Accutronic reverb using one 12AX7 tube. No Midi implementation, which is a problem for my multi-head system.

Subjective description:
High-class manufacturing quality. The chrome panel looks great and the cabinet is made of thick mahogany. But it doesn't reach the perfect production quality of a Mako Dorado or a Reeves custom.

Darn!! It has only one channel!

(5) Lots of good features but why does it have only one channel?

UTILIZATION

No, the setting isn't easy. The sound range is very broad and the controls interact with each other. But they work accurately. The FX loop is excellent, as well as the reverb but I don't recommend extreme settings. The lack of a second channel decreases the amp's possibilities and the tube fasteners make this combo somewhat delicate (try no to damage it). The bias setting controls are placed in the amp so you must open the cabinet to replace the tubes.

(3) What were you expecting? This small amp can be irritating!

SOUNDS

I immediately noted that the amp works wonders with modulation effect pedals. Everything sounds good with this amp which is the first nice surprise!

The clean sound is superb. A real delight. The EQ allows you to get different sound colors (creamy, light, warm, etc.). It is really excellent and it can compete with Fender amps. It could even beat them in a comparison.

You'll have to use the gain and the amp stage if you want to get slightly distorted sounds. The sound is somewhere between classic British rock and stunning clean. The amp is very responsive to the type of guitar you play. With a PRS, a Warrior and other guitars with high output level it was easy to get a powerful Marshall 2550-like sound. The effect loop strongly influences the overall signal (see beginning of the sound section). The reverb finds its natural place in the overall sound and gives it character.

The dynamic response to the playing of the guitarist is very important.

(9) A very good amp. I only regret that you cannot get real crunch sounds at very low output levels. 45 watts are pretty loud.

OVERALL OPINION

I used it on tour with ___ . It's a good amp with an interesting sound character. As usual: Test it before you buy it.

(7) The US price is ok for such an amp.

Off topic: P.S. If you want reviews with lots of 10/10 grades, read other reviews instead of mine. I don't butter nothing up. But don't get me wrong it's a very good amp.

Objective analysis:

All Tube amp manufacturing amricaine a power of 45w, Dot 6L6 power, it is team of 12AX7 and pramplification in the effects loop also reoit of 12AX7. Note, however, the prsence of rectifiers diodes. We can implement any of the following power tubes: EL34, 6L6, KT66, 6550 (remember the rebiasage). The combo is flanked by a custom for the hp Eminence MODEL. A slecteur impdance of naturally available (4,8,16 ohm). Note the prsence a rverbration Accutronics, also flanked by a 12AX7. The head does not support midi.

Analysis:
The fintion is classy. The panel chrome cast and the firm is built in a good thick mahogany (technical choice rather rare). There is everything you need to start playing. I note simply as weakness, the attachment of tubes without lifting ring can cause dchausses of transport "violent" and the lack of footswitch.

(7) a lot of good stuff

UTILIZATION

No, the configuration is not simple. The range of possibilities is stretched and trs CONTRL Intrag them yet. Their race, however prcise rglages and are quickly saw that everything is sound.

The effects loop is great, I would say even excellence, trs a good partner for one that uses a rig of pedals rich. I recommend the addition of pedals intgration volume in this dernire to operate as a boost. It is an effective solution trs. The rverbe intgre is excellent with plenty of air and natural, even if the 2 / 3 of its travel, it starts becoming "too intrusive". Let us add that the CONTRL rebiasage are in the amp, forcing disassemble the amp to install new lights. Too bad for an amp that is intended as a "eater of all tubes."

(6) Nothing wrong, everything is but it lacks the small luxuries (which are not really) as deuximes gains and volumes, finishing options, ect ...

SOUNDS

There, ds the first chords, the amp is perfect prtera for the use of modulation pedals. All sounds on this thing and it's a DJ Premire trs nice surprise!

Sounds cleans are a REFERENCE in the middle of the guitar. Envelopes, brilliant and dpart Arians with a real crunch of sugar. Trsractif all the touch and the guitar can be played on aisment over and switch to clean thanks crunch affect the wrist.

We can, with the help of qualisation, highlighting several characters of clean (crmeux, trsariens, plutt warm, sparkling) ... is really excellent and eliminates the need for more "REFERENCE" of clean .. It is clearly up front fenders and sampiternels Two rocks, and, hence, its anonymous inexplicable.

For crunch, it will attack the gain and the power section if you want to happen in some kind of distortion. But the breath of a normal range of use is good and also appear as crunches.

The sound in the ballad plutt amricain crunch classic rock (like Matchless) "biting into the body" as I like. There are a lot of air, gnrosit and dynamic sound. Submitted everything is such a level is quite rare. Note however that the amp is trsdpendant the guitar that he branch. With a PRS, a warrior and other guitars with lots of potatoes, I had no trouble getting a sound that grows well with a clean leg. Ds, but I go out a Start or an old gretsch, I touch the vintage crunch of excellence you rotate the head. The effects loop is trs densment REPRESENTATIVES in the signal (see the beginners section of the sound. The reverb, she knows Integrates perfectly with her to give it cachet.

The key dynamic is the guitarist trs important and requires a hand sre.

In fact, I see no such limitation amp. For not only excels in all applications requiring the clean, but the crunch provides a broad spectrum of genres and styles adopt. Particulirement its place in blues and folk, he also enjoys the funk, soul, rock and vintage everything that has pop appeal. Frankly there are only for that mtal j'hsiterais use. Although as clean amp ...

(9) a very good amp that can do a lot of the shadow of "REFERENCE" self-appointed amplification.

OVERALL OPINION

I used as test runs with a ___. This is a good amp that dmerde trs well in his voice and INTERESTED. As always, try before you buy.

Too bad Groove tubes, APRS its acquisition, DCID has to follow the path of capitalism hard and has stopped production.

The price of 2000 euro / 2000 usd the era is justified. Prices of nightingales found in shops in the here and who fall below the threshold of 1000 euros sometimes carrment are hallucinating. At these prices, jump.

(7) trs advisable. Not given but excellence has its price

Off topic: PS if you want advice with 10/10 everywhere, go see other opinions than mine. There's no cream. But for the noobs, do not be fooled, you your face a good amp trs.
