« Not a bad pick up  »

Published on 06/08/11 at 14:35
For the price of this amp it is not a bad pickup. The ting that bugs me is the front control panel is actually on the front of the amp rather that the classic Vox style where it is on top of the amp. This really bugs me but not enough to care too much about the overall feeling of the amp.

SOUNDS

This things has two channels, one for the clean and one for the classic Vox/British style overdrive. I wouldn't really call it distortion but more of an overdriven power tube kind of grind. It certainly is distortion but not anything from the preamp kind of distortion like a newer Marshall or Mesa Boogie.

This guitar like the clean chimey type guitar so a nice Fender Stratocaster or maybe a Rickenbacker 360. These guitars don't produce a very high output as far as pickups and so it compliments the Vox tone very nicely.

OVERALL OPINION

Vox has now discontinued these amps and so the used market is the only way to go. I think you can find them for around $400 or so. They aren't a bad pickup for the price. I would recommend anyone who likes the Vox tone and doens't want to shell out a tone of cash for an AC30 would be better off picking up one of these amps.
