FX Amplification Classic Plex

I bought this to replace my JCM900 that I was always dissappointed in the tone. I did not do a lot of research but after talking to the owner and designer, I took the plunge. I was looking for a plexi type of amplifier and a JCM800. I've always loved the early 70's and 80's tone of these amps. I was not dissappointed.

I use this amp for recording and hopefully, playing live again. It has a 2 watt (wife friendly) and 20 watt switch that have no change in tone at all between them. I played my Les Paul through it first and was just amazed at the sweetness of the tone and edge of breakup. The 20 watt setting through my homemade speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30 was club loud and enough to go over a drummer at edge of breakup. The clean is just that. Try it with a real Marshal. It won't do clean well. The Classic Plexi will do it and is very pleasing to the ear. The Plexi setting is so nice. So far it takes effects, both digital and analog very well. I can't say that about my Kemper. The JCM800 setting has the right amount of grit and is a great lead channel. Put a green tube screamer in front or a SoloDallas Storm and Angus type tones are achieved. I've played with my Strat and it's also a great sound. My SG is at the shop but I'm very much looking forward to playing with it as well.

I haven't owned a Plexi or JCM800 in the past but from the ones I've heard this far surpasses the Marshal design in both reliability and noise immunity. It's hand wired and a beautiful piece of hardware. The owner was helpful in getting it to the US as well.

Pros: Quiet, versatile, reliable so far ( I did a 3 day burn in as I do with all electronics), great looking, Tone is so sweet

Cons: I haven't found any so far. I don't think I'm likely to.

USE

Super simple setup, no need for manual (there is none), plug and rings ...
It is very easy to sought-sound.
It possde a good dose of very high gain, living, dynamic, and even low volume!
amp perfect for playing live and in the house!



SONORITS

It is ideally suited some of my musical styles ... Southern Rock, Blues, Hard Rock.
Regarding Rockab '& Classic Rock 50's, my amp tweed Fender '57 wonders.

JTM the clean mode is very clear lens.
With the other two modes Plexi & Brown we go from clean to dirty greasy crunch, while remaining dfini.
The master gain is really effective, it also passes easily from clean to crunch.
The volume Gnral (Level) and when it flexible and progressive.
The drive is beautiful, exactly what I was looking for!
It is a branch cab Marshall 2061CX rquip 2 Celestion G12M Creamback made with a rich and warm.
All my guitars go: Gibson LP, ES-335, SG, Fender Strat, Tele. With a preference for my teams LesPaul P90 (ahhh what Roar) and the SG maestro team bam Wolfetone.





NOTICE GLOBAL

Used for only a few days, I already love it

Until now I used my Marshall JTM45 with 30W muscls that perfectly fulfills its live on (not every day), but almost impossible to play home without attnuateur (onreux) dnaturer without any sound which remained even too strong.
Then go through the rab techn box "rglages of bias" at the lower replacement lamp.

My two months of patience is rewarded t largely with this amp a best finish and perfect for my use.

The report qualitPrix: It is certainly not given but when yrflchi the quality and good work has a price ... and it is largely justified!
As my great-Pre "We are not rich enough to buy inexpensive qed ^^
To prefer the quality that lasts a cheap amount)

Classic Plex is an all-tube amp head, 20 watts switchable 2 watts, handmade with madness components. No PCBs, as the wiring point by point.

This amp has features that made me crack compared to other competitors (Splawn, Cornell, Matamp, Friedman and so on):

- The presence of a true loop transparent effect drivée by a preamp tube,
- The presence of 2 EL 34 power tubes (very rare in these low power)
- The possibility to switch 2 watts,
- Self-bias switch to change the lamps power itself, without repeating the bias (this should be the norm in all the amps)
- Finally, the ability to switch head 2 watts for calmer conditions. This allows you to push the master volume of the amp to enjoy the natural saturation power tubes. And it's downright significant because this amp applies to reproduce british sounds whose sound is related to the saturation of the power tubes! Imagine a REAL plexi pushed her into a corner at low volume ...... Now you understand why I cracked now !!

Despite its name "Plex" Classic Plex does not merely that sounds in the spirit of a Marshall Plexi. Through a 3-position selector, I can select a clean sound strongly reminiscent of the famous JTM 45, a crunch derived from a Plexi and finally a lead sound to sound in a pure spirit JCM800.

UTILIZATION

The usage is really very simple. Find great sound is equally! No manual is necessary.

SOUNDS

Finally a Marshall style amp with EQ really works !! Mini-switches "Deep" and "Bright" are also used to sculpt the sound, as their name implies, add depth to the sound and / or shine.

The cleans sounds are not the strong point of the amp but they remain very good, much more than what can be obtained with a Marshall amp. Anyway, my ex JCM800 2203 was worse. The sound is warm and although Blackface Bassman or type the sounds are not there, the clean is far from ridiculous.

Crunches this amp sounds that are simply the best british sounds that were given to me to hear, while the leads have that grainy next to the best Marshall. Again, my JCM 800 2203 is Strawberry and Classic Plex is distinguished by his ability to produce great sound bearable volume, all without background noise.

The voicing of this classic Plex totally fine with me. Unlike my old JCM800, I have no need to push the amp to an unreasonable volume for the sound. Moreover, once pushed her, I do not have those pesky and garish acute that pierced my eardrums. The bass are deep and punchy, even at high volume, while the mids are much more detailed. A great success !!! The slaughter continued when I switche 2 watts the amp because I get the same sound 3 times less strong ...!

Even staying in 20 watts, I was very surprised by the quality of the master volume is an escalation that I had never seen on an amp. I did not even know that such escalation was possible in fact.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for almost a week non-stop. This home FXAmps Classic Plex is a great success, machine cruncher totally amazing. I was amazed by this amp. Beyond the sound, the ability to play at a reasonable volume without compromising sound is a feat that I have not found in other brands, at least not at this level of attenuation (20w -> 2w) .

The only complaint I can speak to this Classic Plex is the slight lack of gain to arrive at a JCM800. Almost there yet! The problem could be solved by replacing the first preamp lamp by another with more gain.

The price / quality ratio is very good. I think the Classic Plex offers Competes features and excellent sound for a more than fair price. I do not regret my choice and I would do it 1000 times.

The clean mode with the master (gain) between 0 and noon is absolutely crystalline, beautiful. All guitars retain their personality all their own ... With the latter, you can color your own sound using effects pedals that are accepted. Plus mode "drive" also accept without problem.
With a higher gain you can manage all the volume of the guitar ... Awesome!

The Plex & Brown modes are beautiful, exactly what I wanted.
The amp has a good amount of gain, rich, vibrant and dynamic, even at low volume!
For my part, no need to use the "quiet" mode to play with me, because as noted above the volume is very flexible and progressive ... Playing both the latter and on the gain, we get easily assayed and get a good crunch very respectable volume.

In short, the PERFECT amp for playing at home in all modes, as well as room!

All my guitars go there; Gibson Les Paul, ES-335, SG Maestro, Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster.
With a slight preference for the LP with P90

It is plugged into a 2x12 cab "Marshall 2061CX retooled of Celestion G12M Creamback which gives warm and dynamic sound with a good supply of roundness.
I love all the sounds ... From crystal clean to a little "dirty" the slight crunch, creamy saturated fat.

OVERALL OPINION

Used recently, I'm already addicted

So far my Marshall JTM45 was very good at his job ... live (live worse it is not every day huh), but almost impossible to play at home volume "respectable" without a good attenuator that expensive stained still quite sound without much progress control ... It was quickly becoming too strong.
Rab and then go through the box & tech bias settings at the lower lamp replacement.

3 modes decade with the pleasure of spending a sound JTM, JMP JCM, Flight Control / Gain, self-bias and of course its sound qualities are the big advantages of this amp finishes copies.

The price / quality ratio is not given at first, but we soon realize that the quality, work very well and the components used to mount this amp have a price that ultimately really worth the investment.
