Nothing special for a 120 watt amp lamps, ah if there is still a connection to connect a multimeter and adjust the bias, it is better not to use it and prefer the technique with bias probe tube in town eg , it's not cost very much and is much more reliable. (This is important for the amp and super convenient since there not in your hands on this one as it is adjusted with a knob on the outside!)

UTILIZATION

It is clear that there are really sound in the head which makes it a very versatile amp in the register and metal crunch. Almost anything can play in these registers if necessary using the loop by the way is very neutral compared to mesa for example.

SOUNDS

As we move from blues crunch to see beyond ac dc because the crunch channel is really sturdy already.
On ultra channel switching from one grain distortion with lowering the gain and progressively compress it to death to get almost a distortion kind cannibal corpse. For me it is the top, with nothing but the head is approached really quite a metal sounds, there's more than a narrow EQ and effects loop and it's really close.
I find the clean channel really usable, fairly neutral for everything.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been trying for three months and it's surprises every time on its flexibility, other grain and we have a more or less gain, there is the grain that changes with the gain and settings.
More is now found to very affordable price in the 500 euros you can have fun.

I was at American Music in Bellevue,Wa having the guitar tech set up my PRS. While I was waiting he handed me another Axe and said go plug into this new amp they had from Peavey called a XXX, I heard about it, but never heard one or played through one. I turned it on and hit the crunch channel and I was sold, it was that good, I paid $750.00(US). I've been playing for over 17 years and have had numerous amps, effects, trying to find a good crunch, boomy smooth bottom and crystal clear highs. This one has it all.

3 channels are clean,crunch and ultra and VOLUME knob for each channel and a seperate master for all 3.
A nice wide 3 way foot switch.
Power amp runs 12AX7's but can be easily switched to EL34's.
Its has a great effects loop with in and out volumes.
settings for 4,8,and 16 ohm cabinets.
also a nice feature is a speaker dampning switch for duration the amp controls speaker cone motion (loose,mid and tight).
Great quality and it looks great on stage with the diamond plate grille.

Only that its wider than my previous head, it spans the width of my speaker cabinet and I cant set my drink down on my speaker cab anymore.

Constuction and quality A+

Nice sturdy corner protection, heavy duty handle, very solid.

I play many styles and this amp has got it covered, even through the heaviest of metal I had my gain no higher than 6. I used to run all kinds of effects pumping up my gain and drive, but now all I run is one delay box and nothing more. A great Road/Live and Studio/practice amp. Lotsa bang for the buck.

The Peavey Triple XXX is a 120 watt all tube head powered by 6L6 power tubes. It's a three channel head that was designed as a modern high gain amp to compliment the more stripped down 5150 line. It features Clean, Crunch and Ultra channels, each with its own gain and EQ controls as well as a master EQ section. It also has an effects loop available as well. It's designed for higher gain applications and has been commonly used for hard rock and metal music throughout the last decade.

UTILIZATION

Getting a good sound out of this amp is pretty simple. It has a slightly harder to dial in EQ than the 5150 but it's still very responsive and sounds wonderful when dialed in to taste. It allows the user to really go in and get a sharp sound that will cut through the mix with ease yet still retain definition and clarity. I didn't really have any issues getting it to sound good. It can be a little bit buzzy sounding at lower volumes, but that could be said of many high wattage high gain tube amps too.

SOUNDS

This amp excels when being used with more modern guitars such as Ibanez, ESP or Jackson. The active or higher output passive pickups really respond well to the gain structure that this amp possesses and it makes for some great metal tones. The clean channel has a nice sharp attack that, though it lacks the warmth and forgiveness of a nice Fender or VOX, it has a nice tone that works well for modern music. The crunch channel is nice and provides a slightly more modern attack that works well for classic rock through to modern crunch. The ultra channel is the one to go to for the highest gain tones. People that want to play tight chugging metal riffs or shred solos will love the high gain nature and tight attack of this channel, especially if it's tightened up with a boost.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Peavey XXX is a decent high gain amp for modern rock or metal applications. The 120 watts might be overkill for some musicians and its voicing might be too modern for some players, but if you're looking for a well priced (around $500 used) head to do modern tones with tightness and aggression, give the Peavey XXX a whirl.

UTILIZATION

Super simple setup, it connects to the speaker (watch impdances), you turn the amp, turns on the standby and sounds .....
Be good when even spend some time on the receiver to find its own sound.
The clean sound is a real clear sound (compare 5150), widely acceptable and usable.
The manual does not really ncessaire much, if not the Schematic that takes her from among up to the exit (through the lamps, the loop etc. .. )

SOUNDS

Good style of prdilection is when the same saturation and metal. I use it to play in the style of Metallica, Pantera primarily, but also I enjoy playing the Maiden, ACDC, Led Zep, Dire Straits.
This is a truly versatile head.
Galrer to be beginners to find a good clear sound and good distos but once you know the BTE, we can easily switch between the distortion Metallica ACDC, Led Zep, turn a bit EQ and gain and you're jou.
The clean is not like a real clean on the 5150.
The Crunch channel is my opinion more versatile than the Ultra, it has more prsence and it was the one I use most (mainly in rhythm I almost no solos).
I use the Ultra for my solos, agrments a reverb, chorus lightweight or time limit I get with my flanger and the turn is played. I find this channel even more "dry" the Crunch.

OVERALL OPINION

I have this head for over a year. I use a Marshall 1922 2x12 ending for that I will change.
Super versatile and really good value quality price / power (120W at the same time was used very little ... except dcoller casts ...)
It suits me well and trs with the budget that I era, I do not think I would buy something else, even when I would see what was done and I would look in ENGL can tween OCCAZ to target the higher end. But I am by no means dcu of this amp, I am satisfied with TRS.

UTILIZATION

Very simple: It turns and left a few minutes standby time of heating lamps.
It does not take long to find her interesting.
The clean channel is good without being transcendent, it is not the quality of a Fender but it is still acceptable.
The Crunch channel is a misnomer I find ... The saturation comes quickly (to ask the utility of an additional channel).
This is not a criticism, far from it, but if I seek a light crunch, I'll get a better connecting a pedal input.
The Ultra channel is extreme, while being accurate for the little that rule well (and if the upstream stuff below).

I mainly play metal in the broadest sense, my influences are: Chimaira, Machine Head, Dream Theater, Gojira or Satriani. However, it can provide in Blues and Jazz (as long as the guitar is good too)
I am able easily to find a sound that suits me only with the head (no externality) plugged into a 5150 4x12 Slant.
It is a 120W lamp, so you must push for it to have a good sound reproduction ... Here, it can become a problem because the sound is very ... VERY STRONG! I'm apart is it can be annoying to play such a volume.
To remedy this, I opted for the 4 cable method with a Boss GT-6 which allows me to use the distortion of my pre-amp and turn down the volume output of the GT-6 while pushing the Triple XXX ... I draw very well in this way, but I still lose the dynamics of the cabinet ...
And with 4 cables method I can use a clear WG-6 instead of the clean channel of the head.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for almost a month and I am very happy. The price / quality ratio is very good.
While purchasing, I also eyeing a 5150 (and 5150 II) and despite my musical references (Machine Head and Chimaira mainly use 5150), I preferred the latter TRIPLE XXX typed as less noise. This is what I found best for my budget (~ € 2000 + head baffle OCCAZ).
Later, I intend to equip it with EL34 in place of 6L6GC original story to try both config '.
I think the plate on the front is slightly ugly: silhouettes of girls with a big XXX in the middle, I think it looks a little prole, but hey, it makes up much of the sound.
I think I would do this choice without any problems with eyes closed (not to see the plate).

UTILIZATION

So, use level, it's not super complicated. As mentioned above, three bands of EQ for each channel, a switch damping (attenuation switch) to the response in the treble, midrange and bass.
It's still a tube amp, it's not modeling with 50 buttons (although it's nice too) so I want to tell you not to find fault: it is a head lamp , one branch and unless polyopathe, we are pleased fast enough.

The clean:

The Crunch:

This is the secret weapon of the absolute head. The crunch channel is an incredibly versatile. Distos lovers will be served. It can cover a number ahurrisant style thanks to a pretty huge gain range and very progressive. is surprisingly versatile for a head of this type. I managed to get really sounds in the spirit Santana (yes!), Gary Moore, Hendrix (just 10 at half and winning the race with the volume of the guitar on a 6 or 7, playing voodoo child like that and you will understand lol) to the hard 80's, 90's (Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Co.).

In use it is really fabulous and playing on the contrast is super strong.
We just feel the crunch channel is the gain of a Super Lead Marshall, with a nice bump in the mids and therefore a greater presence.

The Ultra channel:

The fishing is directos. To summarize, we play on a beach similar to the channel gain crunch but with more aggressive treble, bass and improved small bump in less mediums. It sounds very modern Metal with a lot of momentum, and as long as you pair it with a guitar in the same style, you will have very good results.
When I played with my Ibanez with Seymour JB, it becomes very dense and ca size in the fat easily while still damn defined.

It should be noted that the amp responds very well with a 7-string guitar or a 6 string detune, the attack becomes very heavy with a "Gum Gum" feature and is well pleased.

I often have fun playing the song "Rowboat" by Coal Chamber (two agreements to play and it's super heavy, a real stress relief! Those who know me will understand ) or the guitar is already pretty huge, and rendering of the triple X is squarely on top in terms of heaviness and definition.

For my part I often use a small boss GE7 (a graphic equalizer), I do not know why but this pedal really reacts beautifully with this head, I often say that AC allows a fourth channel like "sound of the Super Dead in your face. OVERALL OPINION

I use it for about 4 years and I am completely satisfied. I tried really a lot of stuff before you buy (yes 1500 not slamming balls like that!) And for the price and style Metal with a certian versatility I really no better.
A tip, try the above with different speakers as finding the right is not easy, and made many changes, one can easily miss the sound of the amp with a speaker deemed inappropriate.

I wanted to sell it several times to invest in smaller due to a move but I never managed to part with it lol.

Well like everyone else on this earth or almost, after playing a Rectifier with its 4 x 12 cabinet and the whole shebang, I took my snaps. So to be clear: No triple X has not saturated sounds unique Mesa ni ca extraordinary versatility, but its kind and it really provides a lot of people left behind (including 5150 which was a big disappointment even though in absolute terms is still a good amp ca)

It's a purchase to be considered in light of its price and capabilities.

I had to do just about 5-6 repeated with the head and really pleases me enormously and it goes really well in my style (heavy metal). The sound is and with some more effects in the loop head is really terrible!

As I said this is not mine, I intend to buy a head very soon but not ci.Cela Still, if you play in a metal band, based on whatever the style, DARK my friends! This head is for you!

UTILIZATION

Trs simple as with nearly all the lamps amplias! Branch and it is played.

Crunch: My prferer Canal! nothing to say except that this channel is the most versatile of the three. You can play either the small rock of a metalcore killswitch through the gain and even the Moitiers deathcore!

Ultra: This is the channel that I like least, my taste has powerful Tros unusable! Except for the death or went solo. too dynamic, highly compressed sound is really to show what can the bte.

OVERALL OPINION

It has been 1year as I have done a lot of scnes with, It amazes me every day I do not get enough! I tried the marshall JCM 800 and 2000, the Fire and ENGL Power Ball, Line6, Mesa that's still one of the master with Diezel is as well but these two brands are too expensive! all these heads, but its really good value for money is unbeatable the Peavey. I pay 1200 in the Music Store in my town (tat nine) and the baffle 750 as nine Marshall 1960AV. raproche that this amp really correct Mesa Series but the equals pas.Je have therefore taken as it is the only one that brings all of Mesa! So I put 10/10 for the report quality and its price Polyval.

It&#39;s totally plug and play, plug, mount the volume and send!
You just have to be careful and do not crash during select from impdance, especially when two speakers are connected.

- A deuxime "Clean / Bypass" which allows either to start the clean channel (green LED lights) or to launch a channel saturated ...
- Finally the last button to trigger OOU not the effects loop (loop = yellow LED turns ON)

So you can have at the same time a green light and red lights known the pdalier. has meant that the clean channel is switched on but if you Disable (deuxime button), the Ultra channel is on its way ...

I am working on a modification of pdalier for simplified operation (one button per channel with the possibility to enable / disable the effects loop), the moment it works in simulation, I rdigerais a Verify tutorial when I have the operation in real life.

The trick is to know well rgler, and especially to avoid any substance if not become the bte ingrable.

I mainly use the Ultra channel, from time to time the Crunch, and Clean trs rarely, so I will not dwell on the penny.

The Ultra channel is quite "modern", of course dig into mdiums.j &#39;loves the raction of the amp on the palm mute, was still upright and prcis. I mainly use the guitar up in EMG, including Edwards FR 130GT (81 60) and a BC Rich JRV (85), which is perfect to keep his prcis but with a big potato. everything is adding a low tuning is ecstasy! Personally I play a tone lower (DGCFAD) and it is a pure joy!
I use an equalizer Depuisplusieus Annes chart in the effects loop. This allows me to carve its really the way I want, the equation of the head remaining almost flat allows me to catch under the conditions (room, cabinet, guitar ...).
In fact I use TC Electronic G-Major in the loop before the equation.
The effects loop (disables via footswich) remains active in my case, the bypass directly off the G-Major.

The crunch channel sounds a little less modern than the Ultra channel, and the level of gain is a little lower (for a vritable Crunch, do not Exceeds 2 on the gain, or use the clean channel by mounting Volume ...
I use this channel to play things a little more to the roots RATM, in not only Exceeds 3 for the gain.

The clean channel is beautiful trs, trs and be well my use (tuning ).
More srieusement the sounds of thunderous clean channel is quite a big sound amplifier plutt East,. in fact really the ultimate weapon for versatility.

UTILIZATION

Peavey's classic XXX model, one of if not, the most important staple amp models from peavey. I believe, based off the older model named the ultra. All of these have the basic setup, 3 channels, seperate EQ for clean and dirty.

The knobs are active, meaning they are very sensitive and tweak the tone a LOT with very minor tweaks. So don't expect to go too your standard settings, they'll probably be a bit too extreme. Otherwise, I'd say this is very very easy to use, just a regular 3 channel head.

SOUNDS

clean: Lots of headroom, not too bright like a fender but very very usable. Peavey amps haven't been known for clean but this is definitely a usable one. Adding effects like reverb or delay would make this a very usable clean.

Crunch: The main rhythm channel that one would use, very high gain if you want it to be, also very noisy depending on where you set the gain. It's very modern sounding, not scooped perse but definitely not very vintagey either. The distortion is pretty flexible in terms of the sound it can get high gain hard rock or super shreddy, death metal etc if you want.

Ultra gain: the tone is essentially the same I'd say but just more of a mid range boost with loads of gain. Things can get very muddy here if you don't EQ it properly. Again, very modern sounding. I rarely ever use this channel, mainly for crazy high gain-like solos or maybe some crazy harmonics and noises but the main sound is the crunch channel, I think most players would do the same.

Overall the sounds are very decent, and modern for high gain modern rock and metal but I wouldn't say it's very versatile in every sense. Only very versatile for the modern peavey-like sounds. Which is mainly high gain.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall it's a good metal amp. Very tweakable of the peavey sound, but it is still generally just one sound with different variations to tweaking it, gain or mids, harmonics etc. So it's versatile in the sense that the one sound is tweakable, but it's not versatile in the sense that it can do vintage and modern sounds etc.
The clean sounds are also good but not reminiscent of any signature fenders or older boogie cleans.

But definitely a great amp for metal! Plenty of gain!

Very effective EQ that allows you to get a wide sound range even if this sort of amps are conceived for powerful music. Avoid it if you want a mellow clean sound...

The FX loop can be controlled with the very nice and sturdy footboard provided.

SOUNDS

Clean channel: this channel has a very neutral response and it faithfully reproduces the natural sound of your guitar. With single coil pickups, you get a crystal-clear sound while with vintage humbuckers you get a round and warm sound with a slight crunch if you play hard and the guitar's volume is fully up. The sound is not so nice with high output level humbuckers because it crunches faster and you'll have to turn down the volume control of your guitar to keep a perfectly clean sound.

This channel has a wide dynamic response. With an EQ and a compressor (multi-effect processor in the FX loop) you can really shape a clean sound that can compete with other products in the same category (of course, you won't reach the clean sound of a Fender, Roland, Rivera, etc.).

Crunch channel: The name of this channel doesn't really describe its sound... i mean, it does produce a crunch sound but only with a very low gain setting (1 or 2)!!! Higher gain settings produce heavy overdrives and fat distortions. The sound is very impressive, it has huge dynamics and accuracy but it's not cold. Mids are sharp and you can get many exciting sound ranging from AC/DC's fat crunch to Van Halen's brown sound and Georges Lynch's distortion, Bettencourt's sharp sound, Kirk Hamett's fat distortion, etc. The active EQ is ultra-effective and you can color the sound with the master control and the channel volume: Turn up the volume to get a sharp sound or the master control to get a fuller Marshall sound!

This channel alone is worth the price of the amp.

Ultra channel: it doesn't add a lot more distortion because the crunch channel is already very hot...

IMHO it doesn't sound as good as the crunch channel, the response is colder, with slightly boosted highs and lows, and it doesn't sing as much. It's a channel to get a fat heavy metal sound.

This channel has no crunch only extreme distortion.

It can be used as lead channel by shredders!

I tested this amp a few hours with a 4 x 12" Peavey Sheffield speaker cabinet, a Boss GX700 multi-effects processor in the FX loop, an N4, a Lag Roxanne and a Super Strat HSS with Di Marzio an Lace Sensor pickups.

OVERALL OPINION

I think I've found the amp that will be my loyal companion for many years. I will certainly fine tune my settings with increasing experience and I hope to discover additional sound possibilities. The amp is rather easy to use if you spend enough time with it (much easier to use than the system I previously had: power amp + preamp + effects processor).

The value for money is not very good but you'll find it secondhand at a nice price.

This hi-gain amp is very versatile even though it's conceived primarily for fat distortion fans. I'm happy with my purchase.

Last note: don't buy it if you play only at home... a 120-watt tube amp is very loud!
