I bought it because I was working with people who use pro tools, that I was already familiar with this software, I wanted a portable and efficient config.

OVERALL OPINION

I post this opinion, because I have heard and read a lot of bad things about this card. I got pdt 5 years and I have to sell it because I needed more inputs, and I thought it would be a good secondhand to try other things. But now that I have more and I have tested many others, I realize how this map was excellent and convenient!
For those who do not want to take the lead with a computer, it is great, plug it works and presto, you can start recording. The few knobs on the front are doing their job, and can easily do basic manipulations (without using another software dedicated to the card to manage all that).
Never bugs, crashes qq small that I had were more than my computer, when I read and / or recorded until all fifteen tracks filled with plugs.
Latency is easily adjustable and has never asked worried.
Regarding the quality of the preamp and converters, it is quite correct, and how to say ... I feel that it is musical and faithful. No doubt, with it, a mix not great, and it will not sound good, then a proper mix will sound correctly. Sounds stupid but said that as I had other cards (usually best) on which bad mix not sound so bad. Well I find it rather disturbing is not it?
Note also, that I would have never thought, well this is the headphone jack, which delivers good sound and a sacred reserve volume!
Here, in summary, for the price, I find it excellent. It can do a good job without taking the head. It has everything you need, and get better you have to climb in price range.

The Digidesign Mbox 2 is a digital audio interface (A-D converter) with two analog inputs (4 with S/PDIF) and two analog outputs. It is USB powered and has no monitor latency. I am a student, musician, writer, and pretty good line dancer residing in beautiful Nashville, TN. I've been a drummer and guitar player on and off for the past 10 years of my life and have began engineering and producing in the past 4. I currently play drums for the band Brookline and you can see me rockin' an Orange County Drum and Percussion or Mapex kit decked out with Zildjian K Hybrids.

I bought my first Mbox 2 about 5 years ago for right around $450 at Guitar Center in Pittsburgh, PA. I was wanted to set up a small home recording set up on my Macbook Pro.

The Mbox 2 is the perfect interface for people looking to record voice-overs, scratch tapes, and any other recordings up to 4 simultaneous tracks. The Focusrite pre's are very transparent and I have even done overdubs at home for professional recordings using them. Each of the two channels offers a pad and switch to change from mic to DI. Other controls include; 48v Phantom Power, Mix, monitor, and headphone knobs. The back of the unit has three inputs (XLR or 1/4'[line, or DI]), two 1/4' outputs, 1 midi in and 1 midi out, a S/PDIG in and out, and the USB slot. It has very user-friend interface and has never let me down. Syncs perfectly with protools and other programs with the included Digidesign drivers.

There are no VU meters on the actual unit - only a peak light. I have used this unit for 5 years and as a mobile rig for the past 3 years and have found no problems with it. It does what it's supposed to and always functions properly. I have a million more problems with my 003 and HD system and this one never lets me down!

Everything is encased in Digidesign's signature gray and blue casing. Like I said, I have used this as a portable recording rig for a good time and it has been dropped, kicked, and beaten up and still runs great, luckily...

Bottom Line? There is no substitute for the Mbox-Protools combo. They are the industry standard and a great way to get your home studio up and running.

The Digidesign Mbox 2 is a great little interface that goes via usb to your computer. It comes with a handle on it for portability when taking it from place to place. Mine came with Pro tools 7 at the time which I absolutely hated with a passion at the time. I am ok with pro tools now, it was just a little to complex for me then.


UTILIZATION

Well I had no installation problems, but the issue was using it in my daw at the time which was cubase I think. I didn’t want to use Pro tools I wanted to use a daw that I was comfortable with. Digidesign told me it would be a breeze to set it up in cubase but it was far from easy. It took me forever to figure it out and it was still buggy and gave me all sorts of problems during recording.


GETTING STARTED

Getting started was very difficult for me, not too sure if it was just me or what. It was so hard to set this thing up and get it configured. Digidesign failed on this one for me. I have used plenty of there products before but nothing gave me troubles like this one did. Plus I experienced a lot of latency and some very strange feedback and echo noises when using it in cubase and a horrible hum noise that was really loud even after everything was grounded.


OVERALL OPINION

Overall, it works pretty good in Pro Tools but that’s if you understand pro tools. Don purchase this if you plan on using on a different daw that doesn’t come with it. You will have major issues plus I think you have to pay for updates which is ridiculous. So if you are a pro tools user you will love this, but if not run away from it and get something better!

UTILIZATION

ULTRA complicated installation. You must configure the bios and the Windows system folder before attempting installation. The manual (not available in french !!!!) will provide an explanation and you can edit command lines without knowing what you do. After this tinkering, everything should work. I think the developpers home digidisign did not really crowd!!
