The UA-4FX is an affordable interface that connects to computers via USB 2.0 port. There are 14 effects that come with it and one of them is great, it is the COSM mic preamp simulator. It also comes with Sonar LE and a plug in that only works with PC computers. I have used this interface on a Windows XP laptop 32 bit and it worked fine. Setting it up was a breeze and all of the recordings and playback that I got out of it were very high quality. You can also use this interface with a Mac computer but I have heard that there are issues when using the included plug in on a Mac.

UTILIZATION

If you are an XP user you can use the Surround Sound function (S/PDIF) output but this is only for a PC Windows XP user. I am not sure why this function isn’t available to more systems though. The effects are one of my favorite parts with it.

GETTING STARTED

There is a multi band compressor and limiter to use on master tracks that sound really good and I would take them over any standard compression and limiters that come with a software or DAW. Plus it has the basic reverbs and delays/distortions for a guitar.

OVERALL OPINION

Being that this software works great with XP and is shaky on a Mac it really depends on what system the user has and if they want to put up with the headaches that could arise (for Mac users). If you are a Windows user I recommend using this and even working in the Dolby Digital surround sound with it, you can do some great stuff if you are into working with film. If you are a Mac user, I would probably hold off until they figure out what is going on with the compatibility issues.

First with a laptop I bought in 2007 this card for its price and Roland who was acclaimed to AF. I just wanted the computer music. I always use a PC with i7. Quite sufficient to read all my tracks with Reaper.

UTILIZATION

I finally opted for Asio4all rather than the driver Roland. I go down to 6.5 ms quiet Core i7 with Reaper, reading a dozen vst (not freezes) and playing it. I can get down to 4ms (2 and 2), but I'd rather have a little leeway in case ...
I decided to give my opinion after the nth time played live yesterday, or Pianoteq Lounge Lizard, on my laptop (Toshiba Dual Core 2007 ...). The card plugged in for 6 hours, has not issued a crack with 12 ms latency and a microphone supplied with 48V connected to it (USB 1.1 yet!) ...

Used since the spring of 2007, this is my first map, and it is impeccable reliability. I really do not see why I would put money on another card! Bravo!

The price was affordable to the outlet, and begin to touch sound is not bad.

The drivers are stable but heavy for so few features

This card is a good "mule" to do everything except coffee. I have an early version, and it should not be 24/96 recording, but that does not bother me (I record in 16/44 or 24/44, this is enough for my esgourdes; never update since the purchase in 2006/2007 (known more!) and still operational. The sound is clean: I plug a boss or my alesis fusion DR RCA rear, a skyscraper in frontage (the hair!) in jack (or jack in tt1: ho hum!) but not both, must choose, one rode an M3 or on the side AT2020 XLR (activation of the PSU fantom impractical below: micro switch); there, nothing to say, it's happiness. I avoid using the tube simulator very "blah" and not convincing at all! integrated effects are pretty gadgets (cancelor voice that has the name, but that's not why I bought it, correct reverb, especially for the price, but a little tatouillant you do get a good guitar sound (a preamble Fishman prefix on custom cort, a marvel, and a otherwise, the Takamine "Cooltube" or voix.En fact, with good "sources" as input, it does very good job, especially for its price therefore. front headphone practice.

UTILIZATION

Very stable drivers (Win XP SP3 32Bit 2ghz proc and 2 gig ram) (Zero problem if we know a little control), cubase essentiel4, latency inaudible to 44 (in 96 I do not know what it is and those which make the qualitative difference of taking his sound to the ear aliens!). Output is connected to the Edirol MA7A amplified by RCA. No use in noon (so no opinion on this) but has I / O). This has motivated me to make this choice is the little extras, like the knobs on the adjustable microphone inputs / guitar is cool, the 48 volt power supply by plugging in USB. (This is really a map to start in order to register as an XLR mic and it's really good, it's not upscale, but I have recorded a mixtape and I intend to do yet)

I use it with a Sennheiser microphone Mk4 but also an electric guitar, also a keyboard that I plug in USB live on pc, but the card still reduces the latency really really well. I connect to powered monitor not for the moment I have no money ^ ^ but I plugged into a hi-fi amplifier and I plugged the amp the speakers home theater. I have a little headphone sennheiser.

Then the drivers .. A bit boring when infact off the pc at all because when first installed, it works prafaitement, but when switched off or goes to sleep so that the pc to just hit the button the map will be recognized but no signal out and is no longer recognized in the audio software using asio. So FOLLOW WELL I tell you! What you should do is that when you have the computer on again (so good on your desktop etc. .. You UNPLUG the card (USB) to your pc, then on the left side of the card you Adjustable with button 3: So you put it like this: REC SOURCE -> analog / SAMPLE RATE -> 44.1 / ADVANCED DRIVER -> there. Here. After quite sure it works, it's not too distracting it takes 2 seconds to make a Turning on the computer.

I used it with Reason 5 is spot on! With such few p'tits cubase settings I think it's going after.

So the number of track I can not say I do not taff with the mass of tracks, I've already done 15-20 carefree.

By setting the max I really reaches 4-8 ms latency!

I put 8/10 because of a lil something to do on again.

Installation is quick and easy, then I'm gonna explain the 2-3 config stuff (it can serve as a tutorial)

I suggest you press the button "CAPTURE" directly to any effects knobs underneath either assigned you a mic or guitar, because if the button is set to "PLAYBACK" effects potentiometers will be assigned reading, so all what you read (tracks, movies, videos ...) will have the effect given by the gallows. Here

also a lil trick, if you want to record sound from a video on the internet or in a movie, simply open your software to record, and then place the REC SOURCE on the left side of the card on "LOOP BACK "Then you press the record button of your software, you play the video or music of your choice and its registers on your track.

The manual is clear if one can read in English ^ ^ but if you have any QUESTIONS SEND ME A MESSAGE I would try to help you =)

I have not tried many other models, but I found it really complete.

I really like being able to plug my guitar directly above, place the effect button to "perform" Turn back potentiometer "AMP / DRIVE" and have a direct electric sound on an amp speaker as it is really cool! A YES! To hear your microphone directly at the speaker, but especially the guitar, Flip Card! place and below the INPUT MONITOR ON! this is for a return to the speakers or headphones directly, and below you can also turn on the power supply 48 volts!

Very good value for money!
If I had to make that choice, I REFER is on.

But I'm saving to move into the high end anyway =)

In hindsight, I would choose a mini carta with 2 mono inputs

I was looking for an external audio interface with the possibility to record guitar and vocals with minimal latency. This card rpond these expectations perfectly. In addition, it includes a prampli and a small bank of sound (distortion, chorus, delay, reverb, a kind of noise gate etc. ...), without some interest but I must admit that I use quite often the distortion. The possibilities are many connections, since it is possible to connect keyboards RCA, XLR microphone. There are also between the optical card has a 48V phantom power to power a condenser microphone. SONAR comes with a bank and its nice.

Only BMOL, the manufacturer boasts of the quality of a mobile product, but with a box and plastic knobs, I'm not so certain that such a product suirvivra many transportation. In this case the purchase of a protective cover is essential.

On this point I will be trs fast because it's really the strong point of the map. You plug in USB 2.0, you put the CD and poof it works. Nothing more. IMMEDIATE recognized by Cubase is a joy. I was even amused install it on other computer with the same ease.

Yes pb-free installation, Nikel BUT! Still needs to master to minimum English and computer.
The explanations are truly null for novices. I downloaded and installed automatically the latest driver for XP (1.0.2) on the Edirol site (shipped with version 1.0.0) Note, that a priori, they have a driver for Vista ! Zoli!
So, no pb, we launch the driver, it tells Windows that the driver does not care are not signed, etc.. branch when it prompted ... and RAS. FLOW. Not even have to re boot! Nikel! definitely. (It was my great apprehension)

- The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
Bof ... once again, to a small translation of the install (and even the windows msg remain in English!) everything else is in English and not least the doc explains the basic operation of the machine. There's little incentive to cause technical English, otherwise hard drive surout for newbies
So 8 out of 10 because of the doc untranslated ... Contempt for customers frenchies! but not.

Too early to answer because I did that since I apm and not really tested all that (I will later an upd)
For now I'm content to listen to MP3 ... Great (in addition to the effects can be used if you want to have fun) and Nero Wave Editor to make a test recording of my guitar input on the EWI (!) It's great! no more background noise (- 80db!) from the integrated sound card (Realtek High Def 5.1) and a dynamic of hell ... Whew! Not tested

What is reassuring is that a priori the other apps (Windows Media Player, Nero ...) the recognition and use without flinching.

Not long, just a apm

- What is so special that you like most and least?
Minimum: Guitar input / mic that is not theoretically expected line input basic but good, it nevertheless seems to work with my EWI which has a mono line output standard. I will test on the RCA line-out to see if it's better.
And confirm the appearance relatively "fragile" of the machine very "plastic" and light. Handle with delicacy and not sure it withstands use "adventurer" intensive.
Finally, and indicated by zero on the site of EDIROL or elsewhere, to my knowledge, it's USB 1.1! injury (or if you have an old machine a bit!)

Cons: "seems" very light so fragile. Transport risky?
Preliminary test: EMU 0404 USB, big disappointment after having had an EMU 1820 which worked nickel ... returned after three months at the music store where I bought it and exchange with the Edirol (great store by the way, congratulations and thank you to playback!)
Quality / Price: 8 / 10, the level of demand and the card is capable of producing is impeccable.

Some problems in the software sonar.le I prefer QBASE personally, which seems easier to access.
Small problem with the recognition noon, and yeah I started in the computer music and c ... not easy!
The French manual is not the main manual, it is in English, which is not easy at all.

Using very recent days.

I use it to rip vinyl (for samples), to record my guitar (occasionally I use it as "amp" thanks to built-in effects), to connect an XLR microphone and a battery electronic MIDI
My computer is a MacBook 2.2 Ghz with 2 GB of Ram, it runs on its own, but be careful to use the driver version 1.1.2, which supports the intel mac (download edirol site).
All this runs perfectly, I could even do without the ultra-low latency, thus: beyond my expectations, 10/10.

UTILIZATION

The quick start guide is a bit no, not translated into French, which is a little tiring on the part of Roland (my TD6-kv, my Boss DR-3), the link to the webpage of the product is not indicated on the record. It's scary to see: "Sorry, but the interface is not supported on Intel Macs", mas good if not no problem.
It takes a little deflower the manual to use it effectively, but hey it must be admitted that this interface is more complicated than a Toneport GX Line 6
Manuel clear, special mention to the diagrams very pleasant to look at and easy to understand, but a big zero for the lack of French.

Drivers stable? This is indeed a question of PC user Lol drivers perfectly stable.
I use Logic Express automatically recognizes.
The latency is obtained, as indicated above, low enough not to be remarkable (for normal ears I think I have anyway).

I have been using ... today.
What I like most about this card is its versatility and its price is exactly what I needed for my small homestudio student. For defects I have not yet found, may be the lightness of the map a little "toy", but otherwise it's perfect ... Oh yes, it's a usb :-( When is 2.0 jacks, it's not cool!
This is my first audio interface + external MIDI, and I'm very happy to start with a high quality product.
I do it again this choice without much hesitation, especially for 150 euros at Thomann. In fact, it is not very "solid" and with more money I would rather invest in a firewire interface ... Great product anyway!

For the price: MIDI in / out, wealth of inputs and outputs (RCA and mini jack, digital, xlr, phantom power supply, a good preamp, COSM effects, and the 24/96 low latency, and finally a good potential, certainly one of the best in its class usb self powered.
With two other "nomads" a fast track M-audio, and an Emu 0202, which caused me the problems, it is a must next Because: Finally stable of drivers.

Use: sound recording, mixing and recording guitars, keyboards, vocals.

Use Config: Gigabyte S G33, Core 2 Duo CPU E6750@3.2G °, 2G DDR2 800 ° Crucial Ballistix, Dique Sata II 500 G °, Winxp pro sp3 bones.

I used every day not only for the sound of my intrusion but qaussi to have my own sound multimedia on my computer when I read video mp3 etc.
audio interface that allows to boost the bass and treble, to correct the lack of brightness with an enhancer as the sound is dull and confused, to reduce the blast mp3, swelling the sound because iya a compressor that does a good boulo.
is not said with a sound card worthy of the best studio and 10 times more expensive as I can have ease of use, efficiency in line with my project (to make an album) and versatility for other purposes.
